All I have to say… worst service I have ever had. Seriously. There was 4 other couple there minus us and we could hear the other couples complain of the service and how bad it was. I used to go there a lot when I was younger. We will never go back.

First time in for lunch today, and I’m hooked. Uncommercial, old school(look that up, some of you little snowflakes) with great vintage Oriental décor, nicely out of the way, super reasonable prices, happy and friendly owners and patrons, and some great food. Not to mention the wonderful Chinese music playing softly above. $ 8.60 for filet of sole in black bean sauce and with all the trimmings? Hell, yes. Thank you, kind owner lady, for that suggestion. Why has this place been in business for 34 years? Gee, I wonder. Reminds me of Jimmy Wong’s Golden Dragon on University in Hillcrest where my folks use to go when I was just a little snot. Classic Listen to Carlos A. He knows.

A pleasant surprise. We were looking for a good place to feed five people after spending the day at the SDZoo Safari Park. This place really delivered. We had a Cantonese family dinner. Everything was splendidly prepared, a nice blend of ingredients and flavors. Service was pleasant and attentive, but not annoying. Ambience was clean, and more imaginative than usual, with the exception of the hand-scrawled sign at the entrance proclaiming that asparagus has arrived. They get a first impression five stars because we wish this place was located closer to home.

Great atmosphere, fast service, food is delicious! It’s awesome for my late night cravings of Chinese food. From the crispy noodles that they place on your table, delicious soup to the extra cookie they give me because I ask. And it’s affordable!!!

I hate to admit it, but the food was not good this time. We have been coming here for years and always enjoyed the food. Each dish had a distinct flavor, was fresh and perfectly cooked. Something changed, perhaps the chef? Hard to describe, but the flavors were not there. The Moo shu pork did not look the same inside… bean sprouts and shredded pork missing for the most part, and the all important moo shu sauce was«sharp» tasting instead of the normally rich, dark, and bitter sauce one expects. The Kung Pow chicken, although we asked for«medium heat», was bland and flavorless. We will try again, but not right away. We’ll give them time to fix the problems. I would have preferred to email them this review instead of going public, but no email address can be found. Disappointed.

I don’t understand how people give such bad review to this place, this restaurant is by far one of the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to you don’t find authentic Chinese food often. It’s been the same owner since 1984. everything is make fresh and the egg drop soup is homemade unlike other Chinese restaurant. I will def come back !!

Worst Chinese food that we have ever eaten!!! Everything was greasy as if it had been refried in cold grease. The crispy noodles were burnt. The main dishes were not made fresh, they were mushy and gritty and cold. I’m pretty sure they gave us some leftover food that was microwaved. The only thing that I was able to eat was the soup. I took a couple of bites and couldn’t finish, felt like throwing up. I complained but they did nothing, so as we left we told the other people that had just gotten there how bad the food was and for them to eat elsewhere. Escondido has the worst restaurants!!! We have tried at least 50 different ones and they just keep getting worse. The décor is old, dingy and dirty. I prefer to eat at Taco Bell

I never do reviews, but I have to do one here. We were going to go to Manna BBQ, but we stopped here to for take out for the ones that didn’t want to go out. A customer was walking out and said, «this place is delicious well worth it!» Took the dinners home and decided come back to eat. I received a phone call and they said everything was nasty. I literally thought they were just messing with me, until. …(43.00 for a 3 course meal) the service was o. k only because they kept coming to our table every two minutes. It was really annoying me. Never had bad Chinese food until I came here. I ordered bar b que duck, although I’ve never had duck. I thought it was horrible. They asked me how it was and I told them, so they switched it out for house noodles. I love chow mein but to this was not all that great. The kids had the all American plate it had fried chicken strips, bbq ribs, fried shrimp, and French fries. I really should have just went to McDonald’s. The egg rolls were spring rolls, a big difference, but they were good. The cream cheese wonton was great. Spent $ 74.001 adult 3 kids. Just for cream cheese wonton. We boxed up the rest of our meal and took it home. Now we have a fridge full of Chinese food that was hardly touched. Big waste of $ 121.00.

General Tso put up a valiant effort, but the complete failure by their chow mien lost the battle for me. The décor at Bamboo House is old and dated but it does have some charming appeal. Looking through the menus which have probably been around since the Ming Dynasty, we decided on three different dishes. Mango chicken, General Tso chicken, and Chow Mein. Most reviews either ordered lunch specials or dinner combo meals. I simply ordered entrees to eat family style. Several other reviews had mentioned that they got deep fried noodles(Chinese Chips and Salsa) and some dipping sauces at the table but we didn’t. Bummer. General Tso chicken was spicy(we ordered it mild) but it was the best dish we had. Strong in flavor. Mango chicken was a sweet Chinese dish, basically swimming in a sweet ketchup like sauce. I’m not going to say that this was bad food, only that it was swimming in sauce which isn’t something I like. The American Chow Mein. I’ll own up to misfiring on ordering this. Had I read that this was sprouts and gravy I wouldn’t have ordered it. It was pretty bad, and I could taste the canned water chestnuts and really old(canned?) mushrooms. Don’t order this. My recommendation is to follow the other Unilocalers and only order their lunch specials or combo meals. I just can’t recommend their entrees only. 2.5 stars

Growing up with a father that worked as a cook at a 5 star Chinese restaurant I learned the difference between good, Americanized and bad Chinese food and let me tell you this is the closes to good Chinese good I know in the area. It all starts with the jasmine green tea and fried noodles, on the house by the way. Then you can choose from a la cart menus item. all the regular favorires we are accustomed to seeing and more. But here you get to pick how hot you would like it. I chose hot of course. My friends and I had the lunch special which was very reasonably priced. I had the Kung Pao lunch special and it was delicious. It came with seasoned rice soup and lo-main all were great. I will be going back any time I’m down in Escondido.

Really really yummy!!! I loved the potstickers. We had pork and got them extra crispy which was delish! Lunch special was a great price for alot of food– tea, soup, rice, chowmein, crispy wonton, egg roll and main dish. I love the Tea too… at first I was weirded out that there were floaters in it but that’s how it’s supposed to be i guess. Hands down some of the best orange chicken I’ve had!!! I would have given this place 5 stars but the fried rice was not amazing and the water tasted a bit strange. But I’ll definitely be back!

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in north county. They have great food! I came here yesterday with my family and we got the orange chicken combo plate(so much food! But so good!) I got the shrimp and walnut dish which is always a winner! It’s really rich but it is delicious! The crab wantons are always a favorite. My mom got the crispy noodles with shrimp and vegetables. The prices here are very affordable and the décor is old but the food is great.

Finding good Chinese food can be difficult. I had some friends introduce me to this spot and now this seems to be my go-to Chinese joint close to home. The dishes I’ve tried are all tasty. The service was fast and friendly. I recommend this spot!

Love the food here. The lunch special is so big you’d think you were having dinner. The beef and broccoli is always a good to get they give you lots of meet unlike other places. The wonton soup is very good as well a family favorite.

My parents and I went to Bamboo House early Sunday afternoon for lunch. It’s located in an unassuming spot off of Midway Dr., on the east side of town. Not exactly the best neighborhood, but we were up for the adventure. Bamboo House is certainly a locals’ place. When we arrived shortly after noon, it was quite busy. It’s certainly popular and draws in the No. County crowd. That being said, I quickly learned that it also, regrettably, caters to the drab No. County palate. What do I mean by that? No hint of spice in any of the dishes we had. None. We started with an order of the cream cheese wontons. These were actually quite good. It would be hard to really screw those up, though. Dad loves fried shrimp and opted for an order of those for an appetizer(they come in a quantity of 4). I had one and found the batter to be too thick and greasy. The egg flower soup that they served was nice, rich with a variety of vegetables that I don’t normally see in other interpretations. For my entrée, I ordered the lunch-sized Chow Fun. It was average. I’m accustomed to Chinese food that is rich in spice and those common Asian flavors. Our selections were all devoid of that. I don’t really blame Bamboo House because they have to cater to primarily a white demographic that are wimps when it comes to anything that is remotely spicy. As such, it’s clear they’ve adjusted all of their recipes to accommodate the unrefined palate of the local populace. The service was absolutely stellar. Our waitress was extremely polite and sweet, intent on wanting to ensure our visit was a satisfying one. Prices were very reasonable and on point! Our wallets left happy.

This is my favorite restaurant in all of Escondido. The lunch specials here are the best deals you can get for Chinese food. Portion sizes are huge, price is fair, and the food is just delicious. I’ve eaten several of the dishes offered here but my favorite has got to be the chicken with cashews. Everything about it is just perfect. Also, the interior and the workers of this restaurant are nice. So, if you’re in the area and it’s lunch time, definitely give this one a try.

Very pleasantly surprised all around good things. From the service to the nice décor, and of course wonderful cuisine! If you’re a big eater then they have big portion sizes. If not not take home for later. I highly recommend you try this spot that you drive bye every day wondering if it’s good.. Well it is! Happy eating!
