I’ve had beef sliders, steak and eggs, and french toast(not all at one sitting) and they were good. Atmosphere is great, good music and they also have a TV.

Update: inconsistent too many times. Different chef? Staff is always pleasant but even for only a few customers they seem to be scrambling. Our four orders came out staggered, by about 10 mins each, and two of them were the wrong order. Kinda made«dining together» difficult. Anyway, I hope this gets ironed out. Its so close to us!

Long story short: ordered pick up on the phone and person who answered the phone was pretty rude. Got there to pick up the order and the person didn’t seem to know what I’d ordered, took hella long to get the coffee, and the coffee he gave us was dripping all the way to the car. As my gf was driving and trying to put the coffee down, it spilled all over her and burned her. Food was decent but overpriced, def not worth the trip. Love to support other black folks but y’all need to get it together.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. We just returned from trying to order food and drinks there. We ended up walking out because the person behind the counter tried to rip me off. I had a Living Social coupon for $ 20 worth of food. Period. Our order came up to $ 30.10, so I expected our total to be $ 10.10(maybe + tax) with the coupon. The man told me it was going to cost me $ 27.00 –for two sandwiches/no drinks with a $ 20.00 coupon– making the two sandwiches worth $ 47.00– the most expensive sandwiches this side of The Ritz Carlton. When I told him again(and he made me show him the coupon over and over again before he charged me this) that I get $ 20.00 worth of food, he said«No, you get a 10% discount, which is cheaper». WTF?! So we left. I told him I was very unhappy and that dealing with him had been very unpleasant. I should add that it took him at least 15 minutes to take our drink orders, going back and forth about what they actually had in the restaurant that was on the menu– apparently everything we wanted was out of stock except that he kept trying get us to take the one grapefruit soda that they had. When I thought sparkling water might be a safe bet, he pulled them out, but was going to have to make a phone call to see how much they cost, so I decided to skip it and just go with water(the most mickey mouse ordering experience I think I’ve ever had). The place doesn’t smell like a restaurant– it smells like lacquer. There was no one in there except one woman who was doing business on her phone. It felt like they had the air conditioning on(although it is cold outside), making it colder than the air outside(not comfortable). I noticed I began worrying about the quality of the food, and wondering if this joker was going to be the one making it for us, which is never a good way to have a meal in a new place. I’m wondering if this is really a restaurant, or some other type of «business» that they restaurant is just being used a cover-up for(?). They certainly don’t seem to care if they get any business, and trying to rip me off right to my face is just something I’m not really used to experiencing. People usually at least try to be clever if they are going to go that route, because I really don’t seem like I just fell off the turnip truck. Also, my spouse totally got her hand cut by the very heavy sharp-edged metal door, which is REALLY f’d up. Worse. «Restaurant». EVAR.

I LOVE this place! It’s a great neighborhood spot with fantastic food! Brunch — they have an awesome brunch menu! A variety of options. My personal fav’s are the chorizo breakfast burrito and the breakfast nachos. Lunch — lot’s of good options, but their burger and fries are my fav. On a recent trip, they even made me the chorizo breakfast burrito that I had been craving! Dinner — mac & cheese is fantastic, but I don’t think I’ve had anything that I didn’t like there for dinner. Great happy hour, too, with a nice patio out back for enjoying some beer!

I love Basic Café. Friendly neighborhood spot with good food and a great cup of coffee. We have been frequent guests since they opened, and the food has always been well prepared, tasty, and plenty. The open back patio has a tiny kid zone with astroturf, chairs and a chalk board, and despite being so small and simple it keeps the little ones engaged for a long time, giving the adults the chance to eat and talk in peace with the kiddos still in sight. I warmly recommend this place!

While not as glamorous as other local breakfast and brunch options, like Mamas Royal, Aunt Mary’s or Homemade, it’s a reliable meal with great coffee and no lines on the weekend! Outdoor seating in the sun is great.

I love this place. The ambiance and décor is nice and the food is so yummy!!! My favorite is the warm kale salad. You ever taste something and it’s so good you have to look back at the plate and make sure it’s real. That’s how the warm kale salad was for me! We also had the sliders and wings which was also good too. And then there was the mimosa sampler. Sooo good. My favorite is the apple(or maybe it’s pear, but you know what i mean) favored mimosa The service is also good. I had my birthday celebration there. Not only were they super nice but they also stayed open late for us! All in all I very much enjoyed and highly recommend

I came here for brunch last weekend. I’m giving them four stars since I really want them to succeed, but I looked through the reviews and I’m a little worried about inconsistency with food. The best thing I had here hands down was the breakfast potatoes. They were lightly(perfectly) deep fried, and resembled the breakfast potatoes from Gjelina in LA. Anyone who knows that place knows that that is a tall order. It was also a very generous serving. But I also saw someone’s photo of breakfast potatoes where they were just roasted, and it looked like a completely different dish. Potatoes are amazing in all forms, but to manage expectations, I would ask if they are preparing them fried when ordering. We also ordered jalapeño cheddar grits, and they were very blah. It tasted like it needed some cream and more butter, and the dish was lukewarm. Even after we asked that it be heated up, it came back just slightly warmer, but still not piping hot. It was so lacking in heat that the odd pile of cheddar that came on top of the grits did not melt. I prefer it when everything is mixed in upon arrival, but the dish was decent after we mixed everything in, asked that it be heated, and added our own salt and pepper(which I rarely ever do). The pickled jalapenos saved the dish. I wouldn’t order that one again as is, although it had so much potential that I would try it again if they worked out those kinks. Also, their online menu said they had tofu scramble but they don’t. Please bring it back or update your menu! Coffee was delicious.

Basic Café has a nice ambiance with inside seating as well as a large patio area. Ordering at the counter, we opted for indoor seating. The restaurant looks out to the open courtyard of a neighboring apartment complex which was nice. Our order: Fluffy Pancakes — with butter, berries and maple syrup. The order comes with two large pancakes topped with some strawberry slices. Disappointed that the pancakes were overcooked and dry. Side order of Breakfast Potatoes — nicely seasoned homestyle potatoes, but felt the portion was on the small side. Grilled Ahi Tuna Sandwich — Ciabatta bread, chipotle aioli, spicy slaw. Generous slice of Ahi on what appeared to be a Brioche bun rather than Ciabatta with a good portion of French Fries. Better seasoning on the Ahi would make this sandwich a lot better. Overall, nice place for some breakfast/lunch. The food needs a little fine tuning.

First visit, recommended by my cousin. Excellent food and service. Mimosa was excellent. Turkey club even better with carved turkey!!! Not deli meat. Going back for sure, new spot alert.

Only because I have to I’ll give 1 star. This was the worse service I’ve ever received. For anyone that knows me know I love to eat out and love brunch. This place was nothing what the reviews below state. As a person of color, this place is not a place for people of color only those of the lighter hue and you will be let that known from the service of the hipster barista and non-communicative servers. Word?! Once my presence was ignored one too many times, I requested a refund on my order. That was not a problem it was or felt as though it was wanted. The manager a BLACKMAN came out, asked no questions and proceeded to explain the voiding process off m card. My face in disbelief and then a giggle because I must be on linked. Humph… oh well. Knocking this place off my list of never visit again places. …you’re probably my first bad review. Smh…

I’d have to agree with some other reviewers that this is on the pricey side for basic food. If my simple poached eggs and grits weren’t so damn good, I might have given this restaurant three stars just ’cause it’s a little pricey. But those perfectly poached eggs sitting on top of expertly seasoned grits surrounded by a coterie of sauteed mushrooms was absolutely delicious!(The adjectives are earned) And the coffee(Americano) was excellent — just right and the server brought the hot water to my table to pour into the espresso until I said«when.»(old joke) The décor is clean and simple and there is an outside seating area. In an area with either the hippie vibe or. well, the kinda sketchy vibe, this place stands out. It is clean and modern but with a menu that is old school down home good food.

The food could be fine here, but I’ll never know. Because they never brought out my order. I think the employees don’t know anything about operating a café. I should have been clued in by the fact that the website doesn’t give their location.

Bomb food! Ordered more that we can eat! The eggs florentine was on point! The pancakes were buttery and fluffy. The breakfast burrito was a little too dry, but still good. Overall, the staff and quality of the food was great. :) can’t wait to try their other items.

Went here for brunch with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was way better than I expected. I had the kale salad with blackened salmon. That salmon was so good, tasty and tender. The salad was huge too! I had a bite of my partner’s burger and fries, yum again. Mimosas were great too. The other plus was the quiet, beautiful patio space. Oh, and no lines. I’m sure that will change as more people hear about them. Overall, I got to relax, have delicious food with my friends and really got to talk with them(instead of yelling over the noise). Cons: They had some issues with the machine but that seemed like a technical glitch. We ordered some mimosas and they took a pretty long time to come out.

Here last Sunday for brunch and it was excellent. Sat outside on a beautiful day — dogs allowed on the patio. Service was superb, quick with everything we needed. Nice extensive menu, and very pleased with both menu items we ordered — breakfast burger and breakfast nachos. Would definitely order the burger again, nachos could benefit from lighter chips. 1 star missing because my first experience was no good — lost our order and average food. But BC is definitely on the right track! Must try if you live in this neighborhood.

Best fried okra in town, and the vegetarian bean soup is so thick, it’s like a savory chili. Also loved their crab cakes. One of the best things about this place is the owner, George. He is experimenting with this quasi-Southern menu, and if you are lucky, maybe he’ll let you try his latest imaginative morsel! We love this place!

I can stare at the patio from my window. Creepy, right? Felt like forever while they were in construction but I’m extremely glad the wait was worth it. Everyone is super nice and friendly. Food is 10⁄10. Always leave feeling GREAT. Heavy chance it’s the mimosas/sangria. Don’t judge. Give it a shot! I couldn’t help but give them my first Unilocal review ever. They deserve the success. :3

Basic Café is great! They’re in my building, and it’s wonderful to be able to get a coffee without waking a mile, this neighborhood is pretty desolate. I’ve had the Eggwhich a few times, and the steel cut oats, which were fantastic! It’d a rally chill environment, and I can get my home wifi signal down here so it’s perfect for caffeinating and lounging outside for a while. The owner is really cool, the baristas are really friendly, and the make cool designs in the foam. I’m excited to watch b2 mature, it’s a very welcome addition to our neighborhood.
