Orange Peel Pastries, Cakes & More

After a brief phone consultation, Julie created a custom cake for a special occasion. Perfect! Beautiful and delicious! Highly recommend.

I just recently ordered a custom cake & cupcakes for my son’s birthday & not only was it beautifully hand crafted but it was also delicious, fun, adorable, & much better than I anticipated. The chef is amazingly friendly, skilled, & thoughtful. She was very helpful, thorough, & a delight to work with :) I definitely will be ordering all our special occasion cakes from this bakery from now on, & recommending it to all our friends :)

Having recently moved to El Paso from Montréal, a city teeming with quality pastry shops (especially french pâtisseries), I was on the lookout for a competent pastry shop here in town as soon as I landed. My first discovery was Belle Sucre, which, while struggling ever so slightly with actual french pastries (and french grammar, «sucre,» a masculine noun, being «beau,» not «belle»), excels at putting a french twist on american desserts. My second discovery was Orange Peel, a pastry shop that could stand toe-​to-​toe with Montréal’s more eclectic (and less traditional) pastry shops (e.g., Pâtisserie Rhubarbe), were it to spontaneously relocate there.
Inside this diminutive (but oh so quaint) pastry shop stands a refrigerated glass display filled with triple-​threat confections that a) are simultaneously playful and homey in appearance, b) demonstrate exquisite texture (a feat made all the more surprising by the fact that many of the confections are gluten-​free), and c) feature creatively combined and expertly balanced flavours that bring into play natural aromas and just enough sweetness. (Indeed, in a rare show of restraint for an american dessert establishment, sweetness is here kept on a leash, letting instead aromas come to the forefront of the flavour experience.) Although pastries on offer change regularly, they always come across as completely thought-​through and carefully put-​together, as if the recipes had been worked on and perfected over years. Indeed, there is an effortless quality to how the one single chef behind Orange Peel comes up with and executes new recipes, one that testifies to the extent of her pastry passion, knowledge, and skills. To top it all off, she is extremely friendly and always a joy to talk to and discuss her work with. Fortement recommandé!

Loved the vegan cupcakes. I still have to try everything else! Cant wait! Everything looks delicious, and the lady was very nice! I’ll follow up eith anything new I try from this place! :)

Two words… Cake Pudding
Its amazing and inventive. The chef is very cool and friendly. Can’t wait to buy more stuff from her. I wish she had some vegan options advertised though. She’d make a ton of money from the vegan locals.

Finally went here, after passing by while visiting Collectibles and the International Food grocery store (asian foods). Julie is very welcoming and down to earth. I ended up buying this pretty cake called Opera. Deliciously moist and a wonderful combination of flavors and textures. A perfect place for couples to get a fine dessert after/​during a date. And the prices are not expensive at all — very affordable, especially for a nice treat. The best part is that she offers gluten-​free and diabetic items so there is something for everyone.
Most items need to be ordered at least a few days in advance, but she always has a display case of at least 5 – 6 items for those of us who want something to sample straight away.

Julie has an amazing talent! When I was planning my friend’s bridal shower from Chicago, I was able to talk with her over the phone to plan an extraordinary array of goodies for the shower! She was able to help me with the amount that would be needed and decorative planning too since the shower had a specific color palette. AND to top it off, the pricing was extremely reasonable for what I got!
The desserts were delectable, lovely and delightful and such a hit with everyone that I hope I was able to send some business her way!
The only reason why I didn’t give her the full 5 stars is bc I did ask for an order of Red Velvet cupcakes, but only got the vanilla and chocolate ones that I ordered. Which, to be honest were more for me than anyone else.
Other than that, perfect! Also, her French Macarons are TO DIE FOR!!!

Nothing else like this in El Paso! In a town full of Mexican bakeries this is a gem of find. Fresh European pastries from canolis, to linzer torts and fresh banna bread. She also has diabetic items that don’t taste any different than any other pastries. She also makes custom cakes and to boot she is a nationally awarded pastry chef, this place is awesome!
