Like a lot of children of the 90s, I grew up collecting sports trading cards(football, basketball, and baseball) and it is a hobby I’ve kept throughout the years. Back then there were card shops all over town and half the fun was going to check out rare cards that you couldn’t afford. Unfortunately card collecting’s popularity decreased, we took to the interwebs to buy our cards, and card shops started to disappear. I’m about 95% certain that J &M Sportscards is the only card shop in El Paso, and as a collector I’m happy they’re here. J & M is the place to go to buy high-end packs(the stuff they don’t sell at Target), unopened packs from yesteryear, storage supplies, and about the only reliable place to pick up a Beckett price guide. Of course, like any proper card shop they have a great amount of rare cards available, because even if I can afford them now, sometimes browsing is still half the fun. They also have quite a good amount of sports memorabilia: autographed jerseys, footballs, helmets, etc. Another added benefit is Joe, the owner, he knows his stuff, he’s approachable and you can have a good conversation with him about cards. They’ve also got quite a toy and action figure collection, both sports and comic book characters, but personally I was never able to resist opening action figure packages.
