I finally found something worth driving to on El Paso’s east side. This has to be one of the most well thought out public libraries in El Paso. When I go to a library I expect three things. Organization, Natural lighting, and A quiet place to get some work done. The EAMRL meets this criteria. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the facility was design in a shotgun style, meaning everything is located of the long atrium, so eventually you will find the place you are looking for. As first walked in I was greeted politely and asked if I needed any assistance by a receptionist. I kept walking and passed by the children’s section and found myself by a computer lab. I found a quiet place at the end of the atrium in a well lit reading room and set up shop to get into some work. One of the coolest features I’ve noticed when walking through the library, specifically where the books are at, are the motion sensor lighting. Remember when your parents would get mad at you for leaving your light on in your room? Well as tax payers its nice to see that efficacy was a top priority in the design. Not that you need artificial lighting in this building. This facility had natural lighting in mind during the design phase, each window also having a nice view of the adjacent park right next door. Aside from the basic amenities of a library, the facility also houses the offices of east side city representative, a book store, and a meeting room. One thing that I didn’t understand was the location of the physical plant. The plant is located directly in the path of travel between the parking lot and the front entrance. For its location this may cause some confusion on where the front entrance is located and may detour from people from coming in at all. So don’t get scared of the noise and just walk past it to the front entrance. The staff was really helpful and was willing to offer any assistance I may have needed. By the end of the day I had lost track of time and before I knew it it was closing time. Definitely a spot where I will come back.

Look, it’s a library. It has books. If you want to read, you’re in the right place. They have computers for use as well. Pretty new so it still has a nice appearance and doesn’t smell like moth balls. I like the many programs they offer for children during the summer. The park behind the library is a plus.

New Library with helpful staff. Very well organized. However, what I like most about this facility is that it’s «kid» oriented. It offers a large children’s section with computers, a children’s reading area and quiet play area. There are many programs offered to the children as well. I didn’t see ANY children running around or being loud whatsoever. A nice little perk is that the library is attached to a large park that has covered picnic tables, Cool play structures, and even a paved bike path. We definitely plan on using this library on a regular basis and what better way to reward the kids for behaving themselves in the library than to let them play in the park afterwards?! PS. Kids are DIFFINATELY welcomed here so bring ‘em on in. Exercise some Library etiquette and enjoy… I know we do! :-)

This is a top-notch facility! The library is spacious and clean(trust me some libraries I’ve been to have that homeless smell), the computer lab is neatly organized the best part is that the reading areas are separate from the children’s areas. Not having kids running around while you read is a MAJOR plus! its not the closest library to my place, but its definitely worth the drive! PS If you have kids and you are unable to control them, or if you’re one of those people who uses public libraries as ‘free’ Blockbusters, please STAYAWAY from this place.
