The actual sand which itself was very tasty. I got a regular sized tuna sandwich on wheat bread and it was Thursday which means their tuna sandwiches are 6.99 $ with a drink and a bag of chips. However, I am rating this specific location 3 stars because the girl making my sandwich didn’t smile once and clearly knows not a thing about customer service. I get it you life must suck making sand which after sand which but if this job makes you hate your life so much then quit :) there’s plenty of other places! And the other girl who took my order paid no attention to me at all. I asked for a tuna sandwich and she was busy talking to her coworker that she mistook my order for a turkey sandwich.

Stumbled in here one evening while wandering around crazy town HANGRY. I was a bit hesitant as I did not want another subway or firehouse subs or something similar. Submarina is similar as it can be being a sub shop, however the ingredients are fresher, bread is unique and so are the sandwich types. Prices seem a little high, but you do get a good value for what you spend.

Wow! Highly disappointed! Submarina is one of my FAVORITE sandwich places. I will pick them over Subway any day! However, I was helping out at an office near their location and went there for lunch one day in July. First of all, the restuarant, for being lunch rush, was completely dead… that should have been a clue! There was only a couple in front of me waiting to order so I expected to order and have my sandwich in no time. That, however, was not the case. Despite have 4 associates up at the counter only one person took the order, got the bread and meat for the couple in front of me. Then it was handed off to another person to do the toppings and condiments, then the girl at the register to ring them. This took 13 minutes! I know because I timed it. After their sandwiches were ready AND paid for, I continued to wait at the counter to place my order. Not once did any of the 4 girls up at the counter acknowledge my existence, say«hello» or we’ll be right with you. NOTHING. After one girl continued to stock/prep food on the back counter, the other two went out of sight to the back and finally a girl said, «What do you want?» Ummmmm… excuse me? What do I want? I want to be acknowledged first and foremost, like you actually care that I’m about to spend money at your establishment. Second of all I would love for some enthusiasm, not like you want to kill yourself because you work here… I then begrudgingly ordered my sandwich, the same one I always do, only to be disappointed with the proportions and the quality of bread. It was completely flavorless, did not have nearly the amount of meat it normally does and the bread tasted stale. I decided to dine in this restaurant only to see if my experience was a complete fluke or the norm. Wow! Completely the norm. I would love to spend some time here to tear this place apart and help the owner become more profitable with learning some simple lessons about a clean, well kept restaurant, delicious food and customer service friendly staff. My analysis of this place is the ownership sucks and is cheap. Isn’t there to monitor, coach and train staff on customer service what so ever. Probably has them put less toppings/meat/etc. on sandwiches to conserve expenses. Probably promotes using stale bread to save costs as well. Oh on top of all of this, three different sets of customers came into this store and walked out during my time there after seeing the engagement of the employees and the wait time! I also told a co-worker how horrible my experience was. She was in such disbelief that she went their for lunch to experience it for herself. Guess what?! She got the same horrible experience! My advice, avoid this place like the plague! Do not judge all Submarina’s off this location! This is the rock bottom! Every location I’ve been to besides this has been awesome!

Submarina is by far my favorite sandwich shop! They have high quality bread, the meats are sliced right in front of you and they have all of the add-ins you could ever want(which are always fresh tasting and looking). They even have my favorite cheese… havarti! I buy Submarina sandwiches several times each month. I will drive out of my way, passing others Submarina locations in order to purchase my sandwiches from the Rancho San Diego Submarina. Initially, the reason I would only buy from the Rancho San Diego Submarina was because they accepted competitor coupons. During the past few years, I have stopped in other Submarina locations in SD County while closer to those than the Rancho location, disappointed to learn that only the Rancho San Diego location accepts competitor coupons. After buying many sandwiches at the Rancho location over the past few years, I continue to drive past other locations, and will continue to do so even if those locations do begin accepting competitor coupons! My reason for this is loyalty is because I receive such excellent customer service at the Rancho SD shop. I have had only good service while having sandwiches made by the women who work at the Rancho San Diego Submarina. During my last few visits to this location, I was assisted by an employee named Amber. Because Amber provide such phenomenal customer service, I felt compelled to take the time to write this review. Every time I come in, Amber is ALWAYS smiling and appears to be in positive spirits. Amber is always friendly; her actions and behaviors tell me that she enjoys working with customers. Whether Amber actually enjoys her job or not is not relevant since she ALWAYS acts as if she does which is what’s most important. Amber has consistently provided myself and my friends with superb customer service! THANKSAMBER!

I pick places to return to eat at based on whether or not I am going to feel like a member of the«family» when I go there the first time. These girls at this location always make me feel like they are happy to see me and want me to come back again. I always get the same thing — chicken ceasar on sourdough — but I have never had any complaints about the food or the service. I love the manager and all of the girls. I won’t ever go back to subway after having Submarina — and this location is close to work, so it is a frequent lunch stop!

Love this place. Better subs than subway. Wayy fresher, about $ 1.50 more for a 6inch but well worth it and bigger sub! I eat half and save half. Veggies ALWAYS look fresh

Been here many times over the years. Today the bread was old and stale. Not fresh at all. This is the only sandwich place I really like to eat at in the area.

The sandwiches are good, but overpriced. Subway is a better deal and their sandwiches have gotten better. Bought a meal combo and was supposed to get a 3″ kids meal for a $ 1, but was charged $ 4.50…that is crazy for such little food! Sad thing is I went over what the deal was before I ordered and then after being overcharged they said«they should have explained it better». The only way I could see coming back here is that they take Subway and Jersey Mike coupons. Otherwise stay away as it is a ripoff for what you get

I have been a loyal customer to this submarina since they opened. The food is good and the service use to be great. It is pricey but I use their coupons and it makes it more affordable. The coupon I tried to use this last time said good for ANY6 inch sub. I ordered a Santa Fe but they claimed I couldn’t use my coupon. I’m only allowed to use an ANY sub coupon on select sandwiches. Only reason I’m giving two stars is bc the food is good. Don’t issue out coupons if your not willing to accept them.

I absolutely love Submarina but this location is not my favorite customer service-wise, Mira Mesa is my favorite since the associates are actually friendly & the manager is nice, but I guess I need to out that in a review for that location. I swear every time I come to this location, none of the employees smile when they greet people, which is strange to me because I’ve worked in the food industry and currently work in customer service and I like my patrons to have a pleasant experience. Anyway, the lady who made my sandwich looked like she was newer or maybe at the end of her shift because the line had gotten long and she was moving kind of slow compared to the other two associates. I tried to not hold it against her, but when I took my ATL to go, I was very irritated that we had to turn around and go back because she had forgotten to put the avocado on the Avocado, Turkey and Lettuce sandwich. I mean, come on now, it’s called an ATL for a reason. Every time I’ve come back there since, the associates still have blank stares but at least they make my sandwiches right.

Alison H. and her staff are so friendly and awesome… Love eating there. Best sandwich is the Santa Fe —(Even-though none of the working there knew the words to the song«Do you know the way to Santa Fe) Kids sandwich is one of my son’s favorite.

I love this particular Submarina more that any other that I have ever visited. Their customer service is spectacular, their food is always fresh and prepared perfectly. The management has taken the time to talk to me as a patron, an they know my sandwich when I walk in the door. I guess it helps that I visit about twice a week ;-)

I enjoy fresh deli sandwiches but I’m not a big fan of Subway. For some reason they have a «Fake» taste to their food… That’s where Submarina wins big time. Fresh, homemade flavor with wide soft bread to support more meat & toppings. And I never feel like they are skimping on quantity. The only downside is I wish they had more promotions to better compete with Subways never ending deals and specials. Every time I go in here, it’s always empty.

I go here every Monday because my class is nearby. I enjoy the meatball sandwich meal for 4.99. Good bread, good cheese, and good service. The only thing I don’t like is they don’t have olive oil and vinegar only Italian dressing.

Always get the Santa Fe on white, good bread, quality avocados. Always add a little sprouts. However it is a bit pricy, than again you get what you pay for. Bigger subs than Subway.

One of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The bread is so soft. The staff is really friendly. I love going here every time I visit San Diego. My favorite is the Santa Fe.

Stopped by today for a sandwich and ordered the Turkey Club on regular white bread. The sandwich was well stacked with turkey and avocado just the way I like it. The bacon was nice and crispy. The ingredients where fresh and the bread was nice and moist. I was very happy with my sandwich.
