Roughly 3 hours into the 10 hour drive home, my parents and I needed a break. We were hungry, thirsty, and ready for some cheap, comfort food. Enter Friendly’s! We ordered a grilled cheese, fried chicken sandwich, and BLT on whole wheat. When tasked with ordering fries, Friendly’s gives its diners the option of fries, coleslaw, or steamed broccoli. I ordered broccoli and it was covered in butter, welcome to the South, I guess. It was fine, as was everything. We didn’t have ice cream, but lunch was fine for a quick break.

Quick review: My girlfriend and I stopped to eat here because we were driving back from Myrtle Beach and we sat in traffic from DC to Baltimore. We have a Friendly’s by our house in NJ and we know how their food is so we figured a break would be good. Nice place inside(I like that they kept the 50s/60s décor unlike most other locations) and staff was friendly enough! I was a bit surprised there weren’t more people here. The food came out quick and was good. Nothing to complain about but noting fantastic either. It made a good dinner. We might stop back if we’re down in Baltimore again.

I come here every so often for their ice cream as it’s usually different enough from other ice cream places to warrant a visit. On every occasion, without fail, there is a new 16 year old behind the counter trying to work their way towards a used car with profits from the tip jar. You can always tell who the new kid is because they have the look of fear in their eyes that I haven’t seen since Peta in The Hunger Games and the reasoning of Spicolli from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. They mean well, and they’ve yet to be anything but professional in their customer service, but they mess up the smallest of details with the Sundaes. The wait staff are trained to be as laconic as possible. Asking for a sundae without whipped cream is like asking someone on a bus to solve a Rubix cube in thirty seconds. But I love me some friendlys and I am oddly drawn to the experience, so I keep coming back.

I love their Ice Cream Sale, 2 for $ 6. My husband is always trying to get my favorite«Vienna Mocha Chunk». I only gave 4 stars because they don’t keep my favorite on stock consistently, so lots of time it’s not there. Lol, but when it is, my hubby snatches it all up for me! Thank goodness we have a Deep Freezer.

Attempted to have lunch here today. Stood at the hostess stand for a good 5 minutes with no acknowledgment from any if the 3 staff that walked by. Lost our business and will be discouraging others from stopping here.

My family and I stopped here for breakfast this morning off I95. What a nasty place. First it took forever to be seated and there were only 2 other families there. They brought us milk in dirty glasses. Our breakfast came out cold. My waffle was so cold the butter never melted! My son asked for whip cream on his pancaked and they stuck it on top of his butter. The food was so bad we left without finishing anything. The food is bad the service is bad, we had to chase the waitress down for syrup. Stay clear of this Friendly it sucks!

Hadn’t been to a Friendly’s in 15+ years so my wife and I stopped on the way to an appointment in Belair. Lunchtime on a snowy day so it was pretty empty. Service was good. Food was served hot and fresh. My bacon cheeseburger was delicious but my wife’s clam strips were merely OK. The main problem was something hard and unidentifiable in a waffle fry that almost broke a tooth. I don’t think that we could blame this particular Friendly’s for this since it probably happened in manufacturing but maybe they might consider a better fry vendor. Fribble shake was as delicious as I remember.

Very greasy, food cold and out of Mac and cheese. Disorganized service led to extra time wasted at the restaurant. Overall I would never go back!

Went there and couldn’t believe how long it takes to get seated. I usually come here for the ice cream and I think I will keep it that way. Food service is slow. Ordered and it took 20 minutes for one appetizer. Then, I ordered a meal and though my plate was huge, the serving sizes are little. If I’m paying $ 12 for a burger and fries, I expect more than five fries. Then it took another 20 minutes for the check then I had to find the waitress to pay. All in all, I will not return for the food service but will stick to the ice cream only.

Me and my family came to this friendly’s off of 95s and the service was terrible. First off, we must have waited at least 7 mins to be attended at the door. No one was at the front seating people. Then, it also took a while for our waiter to come. When we got our drinks they all had a chlorine taste. My little brother ordered a blue royal iced drink and he rejected it after taking a sip. We had to ask to get it switched and yet again he didn’t like the sprite he had. After we ordered it took another 25 mins at least to get the food and it didn’t even come out all together. Turns out that even the food wasn’t good. I only ate half of what I ordered which was the fisherman platter. The food was cold and the cole slaw tasted very bad and un fresh. I was very disappointed with this friendly’s location. I hope they get better as I feel we didn’t get our foods worth.

The Abingdon and surrounding area has a ton of places to go for breakfast — Denny’s, Waffle House, IHOP, Bob Evans, Open Door Café, Greek Village, Double-T Diner. And I’m sure I am missing a few. However, it also seems that 85% of the population in the area goes out for Sunday breakfast, and there’s a wait EVERYWHERE. Except Friendly’s that is. And that’s fine. Friendly’s is pretty good — IMO on par with many of those options above. I would prefer — for example — Denny’s, but I’d rather go here and sit immediately than wait 30 minutes at Denny’s, which was the option we faced today. Unfortunately, we just missed the Sunday breakfast cut-off, but at that point many of us were ready for lunch fare. My wife and mother-in-law ordered lunch salads and got very generous meal-sized salads. My father-in-law and sister-in-law both got melt sandwiches, which came with a complimentary sundae. And I enjoyed my BLT … I opted for the waffle fries and enjoyed the seasoning of them. It’s nothing special or unique, but it is good quality food, solid service, and consistent. I didn’t get it this time, but as another reviewer mentioned, there is just something about Friendly’s clam chowder that is wonderful. I have fond childhood memories of their chowder. And, of course, their ice cream and sundaes are hard to beat. It’s always nice to have a Friendly’s in the neighborhood.

Hard not to give this three stars, but two and a half would be better. Reminds me of a Shoney’s that has not been remodeled in long time.

As far as the general menu goes, I give Friendly’s 3 stars. but the only reason I eat here is for the clam chowder. it is LOADED with clams and they have not changed their clam chowder as long as I can remember. As far as I am concerned, it is better than almost all clam chowders I have eaten from all types of restaurants.

In search of some food off of I-95, I found one of my favorite restaurants as a child — Friendly’s! I was pleased to find that they still have a $ 9.99 deal — you get a meal, drink, and a happy ending(sundae…). The asian chicken salad was actually really good… who’da thought getting a salad at Friendly’s! The burger«setup» was okay. Just a typical bacon cheeseburger but on white bread. Back to the salad though — it was really good! I think the pecans and mandarin oranges made the salad distinct and the asian dressing was really good! just get it on the side and put a small amount on it. Now to the grand finale. I didn’t get a happy ending. I super sized it to a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup sundae with vienna mocha chunk, hunka chunka PB fudge, and chocolate almond fudge ice cream. It hit the spot. Top it off with some hot fudge and pb sauce and whipped cream and I was in heaven. Good service and ample parking. Right off I-95 about 16 miles from Baltimore before the traffic. Also, you can fill up on cheap gas nearby!
