Salon Of TL&C

Like so many of the loyal customers of the talented ladies at The Salon of TL&C I followed Carla from a nearby salon. I first met her when I decided to chop off about 10 inches of hair on a whim. I felt comfortable in her capable hands and loved the cut so much that I have been a dedicated customer ever since. I never feel rushed and I am always completely satisfied. I’m also pleased that I get such a great quality cut at a reasonable price. Maintaining short hair can be expensive, here I feel that am getting a superior cut without the crazy high price tag. Best of all, I am always greeted with such a warm welcome!

I found Lourdes a few years ago when I googled «best inexpensive haircut, Durham». She moved to TL&C in mid-​2015, and I followed her here. She takes pride in her work. For $ 14, she washes my hair gently, and gives me a haircut that makes me happy for a year, which means I can tip $ 16, and still not spend more than I can reasonably afford. Lourdes takes reservations.
About my hair: I have thick wavy brown hair with natural red and blond highlights. I typically ask for a shoulder-​length layered cut. Lourdes can mimic styles if you show her a style, or come-​up with her own direction. I am starting to have a few local grey hairs, and she cuts them short, without pulling them out at the root. I’m not ready to color my hair yet.
Haircuts are given with one stylist per room, with doors open to other rooms on the hall. Lourdes has personalized her room with a large stock image of Marilyn Monroe, and some inspirational sayings. Within reason, the stylists set their own hours, which the stylists seem pretty happy about. She’s a real extrovert, and lets me contribute to the conversation in whatever way I want — mostly I’m silent — which means it’s a comfortable hour that I happily repeat because she gives me a great haircut.

I’ve been to quite a few places in Durham and I’ve finally found my hair salon. Everyone here has great attitudes and most importantly, give great haircuts. Give them a try and I think you will be impressed. Their prices are very reasonable. Less expensive than a high end salon

Amazing salon, really a gem in Durham. Started coming here after getting to know the lovely staff at a previous hair salon nearby. After my favorite hairdresser (Lourdes) decided to start this salon with two other very talented cutters, I started coming here as soon as it opened.
Lourdes is the sweetest hair cutter I have ever met. She has an enormous base of customers who will follow her religiously wherever she works. She is so kind and really cares about her customers. I’ve had appointments with her where she has spent nearly an hour making my hair as perfect as possible when she easily could have moved on to another customer to get more tips. Instead, she is committed to really giving people the hair they’ve always wanted, and she does it well! I can say I’ve never gotten a haircut I didn’t enjoy from Lourdes, and I’ve been going to her for nearly 4 years.
As a Duke student, I’m sad to have to leave this place when I graduate this year, but heavily encourage any other Duke students or folks from Durham to check this place out – I promise you will not be let down!!!
In addition to Lourdes, the other hairdressers are also amazing, so please have them cut your hair as well if Lourdes is busy (as she often can be)

I went to TL&C to get a haircut corrected by Lourdes and I couldn’t be happier.
Scheduling: I scheduled my appointment in the morning and was able to see her in the afternoon. Scheduling was flexible and really convenient. Lourdes is really popular with the Duke students so scheduling an appointment is a good idea.
The Cut: Lourdes and the other hair cutters here always ask what I want before they begin. They really try to accommodate what you want with what is possible with your head shape and current hair length. What I appreciate most is that Lourdes takes her time with the cut and then shows you how to style it afterwards. She used to cut hair in Boston, but she’s brought her big city skills to the Bull City. They always give you a complimentary shampoo and scalp massage which is a nice touch.
I’ve been getting my hair cut by Lourdes for four years and I even came in today on a visit to Duke after I’ve graduated. Overall, the service + the haircut + the value was a five star experience.

This is my second time going to Carla. I love supporting another new Durham independent small business. I got the «orders» from my wife to get my hair cut. I’m really bad at saying what I need, so I showed Carla a picture. Came out just as I wanted. Good price. Comfortable and friendly folks here.
