Craven Allen Gallery House of Frames can handle the big stuff! I’ve had several large pieces of art framed there. They can also help out with rescue — I took them a poster from 1983 that had a lot of road wear. They did a wonderful job of bringing it back to life. The selection of frames in the shop is mind blowing. They have everything from the most traditional woodwork to post modern burnished metal. The staff is very helpful — they always show a genuine interest in the projects that I’ve brought in, big and small. Plus, there’s a cheerful four-footed associate who will always brighten your day.

I’ve been going to House of Frames for 10 or 12 years to have my artwork framed and I have always been pleased with their work. It’s a bit intimidating trying to choose from their enormous variety of frames and matting options so I rely heavily on the experts. Kathryn has helped me most often. I trust her. If she says it looks good, I’ll go with it! I have also purchased several pieces of art there. They have wonderful shows in the downstairs gallery. They’ll get nothing but praise from me. Highly recommended.

I noticed this gallery and frame shop while leaving Joe Van Gough coffee shop, and I had a painting that needed to have the frame repaired, so I stopped in to get an estimate. I was immediately impressed by the cool artwork that was on the walls and was greeted by a woman and small dog at the register. I was given a reasonable estimate and explained the pricing and what it would cost to replace the frame. I brought in my painting the next day and was greeted by Linwood their frame technician, and was impressed by his knowledge, and willingness to take time to explain to me the process and pricing. Two days later Linwood called me to let me know my painting was ready to be picked up, and that he was able to repair it for the estimated price. When I picked it up it was packaged in a very high quality paper and lined with cardboard to keep it safe. When I opened it to examine the work I was blown away! Linwood had not only repaired the frame but had lined the back with fine paper and had installed felt bumpers so it would rest softy against the wall. Service and craftsmanship were above and beyond my expectations and I will return to them for all my framing needs!

More than just frames. But more about that later. I have two pictures that need frames. I decided to start my search at Craven Allen. Expecting to find a few frame samples, quickly narrow my choices, pick one, and move on, I was blown away by the sheer volume and variation of frames. Any material you can imagine. .. modern, art deco, basic.. .Seriously. The walls on both sides of the shop were covered. I thought I’d leave with a couple of ideas and instead am having to plan another trip. And Craven Allen has more than frames. They also carry some beautiful art from local and nationally known artists in their downstairs area. It’s a small gallery, but displays some well-chosen work. Thanks to the person at the counter who directed me to it. Finding this little art gallery haven was a pleasant surprise. And, as is typical for me, I found an incredible oil pastel by David Terry that had me wishing I had the space to display it.
