Smoothie was fine, but service was horrible. Two people were working and it took 10 minutes to get the smoothie because they forgot to make it. I had to ask them to make my smoothie again even after they saw me standing there after ordering. While they said«sorry,» there was no genuine apology and they acted like I was a bother.

Whenever I go to Southpoint mall, I have to get my smoothie fix on. Originally, I was thinking Häagen-Dazs but their line was pretty long so I opted for Big Island Smoothie instead. The first thing I noticed was that the menu was huge! There are a lot of different choices. It can get pretty overwhelming. In the end, I got a small Mango Strawberry with yogurt and Vita boost and ended up being around $ 5. The smoothie itself is very delicious and refreshing! It comes in a decent sized cup for small. Anything bigger than that and I probably can’t finish it because that’s just too much sugar. I never noticed this before but they did have a nice little bar area with these bar stools so you can sit while you wait for your smoothie to be prepared.

Definitely not the best or the worst smoothie place I’ve been to. Big Island Smoothies is a kiosk right next to the food court of Southpoint Mall. There have been several renovations over the years(changes in location, menu, appearance, offerings, etc.), and as a result of trying to have a greater variety of smoothies, I think the quality and freshness of Big Island Smoothies has decreased. They used to have a loyalty card too(buy 6 – 7, get one free?), but either they’ve discontinued it or just aren’t advertising it as much. Definitely ask for one if you do wind up going– hopefully they still offer the card. The Maui(strawberry-banana-pineapple) has always been popular and is the flavor that they most commonly give out as free samples. I haven’t seen any free samples the most recent times that I’ve gone, but maybe my timing was just off. The fruit that is used now is mostly frozen(aside from the banana), and if you add yogurt to your smoothie, the yogurt is squeezed from a bottle… Also pretty sure that the water that they add to the smoothies is sugar water, which is why the smoothies always end up so sweet(I’ve tried making smoothies with the same ingredients at home before, and my smoothies always end up much more sour since I don’t add any additional sugar). Nevertheless, most of the smoothies on the menu are pretty tasty, and if you’re in the mood for a refreshing smoothie, Big Island Smoothies definitely hits the spot. During my most recent trip here, I ordered one of the green smoothies, which are new on the menu(like I mentioned before, they are desperately trying to increase the variety on their menu). Though the taste wasn’t bad, the color was absolutely disgusting and looked like an icky brown. No doubt the color detracted from the taste of the smoothie.(Looking at the smoothie made my friend ask, «what the HELL is that…») So from my experiences here, I would stick with the all fruit smoothies and stray away from the veggie ones until they perfect them in the future. Oh the price. Not the cheapest place for sure. Expect to pay around $ 5 – 6 for your smoothie depending on the size you get. But then again, everything in this food court is overpriced, so it’s to be expected. Long story short, come here if you’re dying for a smoothie; skip it if you can live without.
