Best sandwiches ever! Amazing food, and great people work there for delivery. Wish they had longer hours.

After 5 years of weekly trips to Celebrity… it’s closed it’s doors. The Gone Fishin sign on the door might fool you into thinking you can come back next week… but their answering machine tells the full story. I’ve lived in several parts of the country, and this is still the most delicious, consistently great sandwich shop i’ve ever known. Good luck to Ross and his crew. you will be missed. and…to help us swallow this sour pill… perhaps consider opening again for one last stand! we never got a chance to say goodbye. and we need«closure»!

Celebrity Sandwiches is a small restaurant on Belmont avenue, just seconds from the train station in Downers Grove. I met with my mother here today after she suggested we pick a spot closer to me rather than her, due to my not-working-at-the-moment AC. I looked through my bookmarks and from my five oldest ones, Celebrity Sandwiches sounded perfect. The place is small, with five tables, a unisex bathroom and not much else. It was fairly clean(our table had some crumbs on it but NBD), comfortable(yay, AC!), and smelled promising of delicious, calorie-bomb grub. I was excited. Unilocalers got it right when they tell you to try the Goldie. And I will echo their statements as well. I placed my order for the Goldie without tomato, chose a table, and waited. It comes on garlic bread and is topped with grilled chicken, roasted garlic, mozzarella, bacon, tomato, and mayo. Just reading those words is enough to make me salivate and now I want another one. Seriously. I am such a glutton. Their menu has everything from pastas, salads, soups, chili, hot and cold sandwiches, and tons of appetizers and sides. When I initially checked out the menu, I knew I had a difficult decision to make. However, once I learned about Goldie, my decision was made. Finally my order was ready and I could barely control myself from taking a bite before getting back to the table. But I managed, and the first bite? I’m going to bet my eyes widened before rolling into the back of my head from a sexy flavor overload. Oh my god; it was a melty, crunchy, chewy, garlicky explosion that blew my taste bud’s minds(if they had a mind, that is). I couldn’t. stop. eating. When I finished, I wanted more. I NEEDED more. I think I’m addicted to that sandwich. No doubt I’ll be back here very soon. It’s going to be difficult to try and order something new, though. Celebrity Sandwiches, you had me at «Goldie.»

I ate there today for the first time… pretty impressed. Had the shrimp po boy with a small pasta salad. Like many of the reviews their bread was awesome. Shrimp was cooked and seasoned perfectly… overall a real nice sandwich. The pasta salad was perfect al dente. Not overly tart which I’ve seen to be a problem at a lot of places. You can tell they use fresh ingredients. Gotta try the Goldie next time that everyone is raving about.

I live about 10 minutes from this place, and knowing there are several other places in the area, even 2 minutes from my home… I would rather go to Celebrity over any other place. My usual meal is a ‘Goldie’ with an order of cheese fries and if I’m with a friend, add some olive bites or jalepino poppers. I’ve had several other things off their menu and I’ve never been disappointed. It’s small, clean and a family favorite! Try it, you won’t regret it :)

I am a sandwich connoisseur. Some would say a sandwich snob. I hate chain restaurants, am from NY, and believe that a true NY deli is the best thing going in the sandwich space these days. Unfortunately, I have yet to come across an outstanding deli sandwich in Chicagoland. Yes, not just Downers, but all of Chicago. That all changed as soon as I stepped into«Celebrity Sandwiches». First off I love their vibe — small hole in the wall place, a menu with tons of options, and a staff that knows and loves sandwiches. The first time I was there we were discussing all the possibilities for other types of chicken sandwiches, while I was waiting for my first«Goldie». Their signature sandwich, «The Goldie», is one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever eaten — anywhere, ever. It’s heavy, you can’t get it too often and it slows you down. But it’s oh so good. I order it with no mayo, and with lettuce. Let me break this down for you all. There are 3 main components to a good sandwich. #1 is the bread — needs to be fresh, soft(but not too soft) and good. The italian bread on the Goldie may be the best sandwich bread I’ve eaten in Chicago. Turano bread, french bread, and Chi’s crap versions of Kaiser rolls are all terrible. This place knows that. #2 is the meat — meat needs to be cooked in-house, well-seasoned, and juicy. If it’s cold-cuts it needs to be homemade or boars head. I haven’t tried their cold cuts, but their chicken is excellent. At first I was skeptical of the strips vs. the whole breast, but strips work well. Very well. #3 is the condiments. Surprisingly the«Goldie» has no need for sauces — the garlic bread and mozz cheese mixture is phenomenal, and is the sandwich’s moneymaker. Lastly, per the request of the order-taker guy, we ordered an app of homemade jalapeño poppers to try for the table. These were like a glorious combination of crab rangoon and jalapeño poppers. The«jalapeño rangoons» were excellent. Come here for Chicken Sandwiches. The«Goldie» is amazing. As I was leaving today the owner told me they have more goldie-esque chicken sandwiches coming down the pipeline, such as Chicken Alfredo, Buff Chick, etc. Sounds good to me! My only recommendation to the staff would be to offer free gum and breath mints as you leave, because you are going to need them after taking down that glorious«Goldie».

I have had a special bond with this place for a long time. It was the first place my husband and I came to together when we met 5 years ago. So when I went back again after 5 years, it pulled on my heartstrings! It’s still awesome as ever. Get the Goldie … best sandwich I have ever had! They have a huge menu, and almost anything you could want. Not just sandwiches! Anything you get is awesome, I have absolutely no complaints. And to top it off, they deliver!

Just call me Frankie Frequent cause Celebrity Sandwich is in my roledex of weekly dining destinations. I can’t believe it took me so long to finally order out of my comfort zone. I tried their«Goldie» Grilled Chicken sandwich served on a toasty garlic bread with roasted garlic, mozzarella cheese, tomato, mayo and BACON! When I see the word«Goldie» I think of the Hill Valley mayor Goldie Wilson. If you have no clue what I just referenced… you better ask somebody. All I gots to say is the crispy bacon mixed with the roasted garlic generated such a flavor they should bottle that stuff and sell it as a fragrance.

Best sandwich in DG! My husband and I recently discovered this place and have become weekend Celebrity Sandwich addicts. My kids love them too. The portions are huge for the price. So far, every sandwich we’ve tried has been delicious! I spoke to the owner today, what a great guy. The bread is fresh, meats delish and toppings top notch. Can’t go wrong here. Can you tell I like is place?

I’ve known the owner«Ross» for several years. He used to deliver food for Doggie Diner and Rosati’s Pizza both in Woodridge. Ross must have saved his tip money to buy this place. The food is great, as long as you eat in the restaurant. I had an Italian Beef/Sausage combo with red sauce to take out, and was disappointed when I ate it at home. I didn’t taste ANY red sauce at all. I called the restaurant, and they offered to deliver a new sandwich to me. I declined because of time, and the extra effort they would have to take. I am the Italian Beef connoisseur, and unfortunately, it doesn’t make my top ten. I would give it a 4.5 out of a 10. The beef was cut a little too thick with some fat and gristle, and the au jus was pretty much tasteless. We will restrict out patronizing this restaurant in-house for the future. I’m sure that Ross would appreciate the fact that I had a concern, and let the employee know that I wasn’t happy. We’ll still return because overall it’s a great place at a very convenient location in western Downers Grove.

Dirty. As we waited for our food we watched a cockroach crawl across the big window facing Belmont. I’m of the thought that if there’s one outside of the kitchen, there’s probably more back in the kitchen. Wanted to support a local business but just wasn’t impressed.

Great food, very friendly service, fast, priced right… what more could you ask for! After going multiple times for lunch(and never being disappointed) we ordered sandwiches for our Super Bowl Party. The owner himself delivered them and they were a hit! If you haven’t tired it, go now!

A recent discovery, and now I can’t get enough! Outstanding food for a great low price and so many options to choose from! I’ve gotta recommend the Cajun fries, they are so tasty and just the right amount of spice. Regular fries are good too, and if you order a large it is about twice as much as you would get with a large at McDonald’s so be prepared to share! For appetizers, so far I have tried Mama’s Pasta Salad and Grandma’s Potato Salad – both were great! Sandwich options are many, even for a vegetarian such as myself. I like that you can choose from various types of bread, cheese, and veggies no matter what sandwich you are getting. I have had the veggie sandwich and the egg salad sandwich, and highly recommend both. Quick, friendly service and tasty food! One(temporary) caveat – right now there is road construction going on right in front of the parking lot for Celebrity Sandwiches, so it may be hard to get to. But when I was last there, the driveway was still accessible from Belmont.

Went for dinner on a Thursday night. We just had driven by and decided to try it. Place was empty. Huge menu, the employee didn’t have much help in terms of recommendations. Ordered the Ribeye sandwich, chicken parmesean sandwich & fries. Fries were good, chicken sandwich was pretty good, ribeye was TERRIBLE — all gristle. Priced ok for that type of place.

Kind of stunned to find this place in Downers. Food was good. I had a very good port tenderloin sandwich. Then I went with the counter guy’s recommendation of the daily special — pulled bbq chicken. That one was clearly from a frozen tub at GFS or something. It was terrible. However, I will be back. The menu is extensive, and I’ll take some Unilocal advice on what to try next.

Food is decent and has a good variety. Its a bit on the expensive side for what you get but not outrageous. As far as service goes it really depends on the time or day. Sometimes the staff has friends visiting and makes it feel as if you just crashed a party they were having. Worth going to and I’d gladly go there over Subway or any other chain.
