Ate here today. Prices are higher, quality is lower. I ordered the teriyaki hibachi steak meal. My steak was tough, overcooked, and flavorless. Hardly any mushrooms were given. My «fried rice» was the worst. It looked like someone forgot to fry it, because it appeared uncooked and had a puddle of grease at the bottom like it was ready to be thrown on the frier. I bravely attempted a bite of the rice and it had no flavor and was… SURPRISE. greasy. The miso soup was disgustingly salty, I could not finish it either. The salad was good though. I used to go out of my way to come here. Not anymore.

Stopped in for an early lunch with my brother. We were immediately greeted and seated at a half table /half booth. While the table was clean, the booth side had food on the seats and the seat was pretty worn out– large holes and ripped. Our waiter came over quickly– since the Unsweet tea was being brewed, we opted for waters. The waiter suggested the pork dumplings for an appetizer and we also got some edamame. The pork dumplings were delicious– warm and came with a great dipping sauce. The edamame was dry and room temp, expected them to be warmer. For sushi we opted for the rock & roll, spicy salmon and the tempura oyster roll. The spicy salmon came out quick and was rolled good and the pieces were small enough to each whole. The other two rolls– the pieces were rather large, I almost wanted to cut them in half. Too large for my preference and tended to fall apart because it was too big to stay together. The flavor was there, just hard to eat. Our server was good, didn’t catch him name, but he was friendly and attentive! The price was average, $ 35 for two people, two appetizers and three rolls. I would return, but opt for something else on the menu. I would like to see this place updated too!

Never been disappointed here. Great Japanese restaurant. Would like it better if they had hibachi, but their cucumber mojito makes up for it. Sushi is fresh and tasty. If you are in the area looking for great sushi, don’t waste your time driving anywhere else, it doesn’t get much better than Masa Sushi

started with… SAKEBOMBS!!! — yuck…but, had to try it! TEEHEE! edamame — great — cant mess that up [i dont think!] cute little place with lots of lantern lamps… and the menu is huge. sushi, sashimi, soups, bento boxes, hibachi, etc… we had special rolls «fufu” — $ 17 fried oyster | salmon | smelt roe | spicy tuna | spicy kani | spicy scallop avocado | cucumber | green onion | mayo | tempura flake instead of rice it was wrapped in soy paper — huge pieces — but, this one i wont order again because there was no texture to it — it was all mushy. when you have such variety in a roll… it should of exploded in your mouth with crispy, soft, hot, cold,…but, fried oysters? nah, that wasnt. and scallops spicy… nope — weren’t fresh — just mush. astro #1 —$ 15 shrimp tempura | s. w. tuna | spicy tuna | spicy crawfish | smelt roe avocado | cucumber | jalapeño | green onion | mayo REALLYGOOD. made up for the FAIL of the first roll will definitely go back

Prices have gone up and portions are about the same. Decorations are falling apart and the place isn’t kept up as nicely as it used to be. Lots of stuff in the way of the bathroom for access for wheelchair accessibility. Cleanliness is down too. Food is still good. I still like to go there in the afternoon, but I’ve definitely noticed a tendency toward decline.

We went during their anniversary special — 50% off the entire bill! I had never been there before but saw the event on Facebook and decided to go. We ended up waiting 1.5 hours until we were seated and we came right at 4 pm. A lot of other people waited 2 to 2.5 hours or perhaps even more. Based on rating the sushi, the place was«ok» but not anything super great. None of the rolls we tried stood out to me or tasted outstanding but everything tasted«good.» I can’t remember all of them but we tried the astro roll, deep flyer, samarai something and 4 other rolls so 7 total. One extra star on this review based solely off their service though. Even with a TON of people outside waiting and inside eating, everything was ONPOINT inside. Every single person working there was working so hard and being very professional. It only took us thirty minutes inside to order and eat! The food came out very quickly, the orders were taken quickly, drinks refilled quickly, and no mistakes by the waitress who took our order or brought and returned our check. They were seriously working hard to keep everyone eating and drinking and keep the tables turning over at a reasonable pace for all those who were waiting. I was really impressed by it, I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen a busy restaurant staffed and working so well like that before. Overall I may come back to check when it’s not as busy to give the sushi another try.

The food is pretty good. I do like this place. I had bad experience once, it smelled like sewage. But I’d go back.

It’s starting to get run down. The booth seats are all cracked and torn so don’t wear shorts! Food is consistent and decent sushi.

It seems like every single time my boyfriend and I have a date night, the service is ALWAYS terrible. We think we are jinxed! This is the only place we go that we have an excellent experience every single time! We always sit at the bar where the service is always prompt, and our drinks are never empty. The sushi is FANTASTIC! I would recommend Masa Sushi to anyone looking for a nice spot for date night. We will be back again soon! :)

We ate here last night and had a great experience! We were celebrating our anniversary and ordered way more than we could finish. The Masa Tower is to die for! The service was fast and friendly and our waitress/bartender(we sat at the sushi bar) was extremely knowledgeable with what was in the various dishes and was happy to answer any questions we had. We will definitely be going back!

Never going back to this place again because of the manager and the lack of professionalism!!! 2 of my coworkers and I stopped in for lunch as we do once a month… One of my coworkers found a hair ebbed in her avocado roll part of her bento box which she was paying extra for instead of the California roll… She was so grossed out that she didn’t even want to finish any of her food… Told the waitress about it… I saw her take it to the manager and kitchen staff member right away. At no point did the manager ever come to the table to address the hair issue… When my friend received her bill they only took off the up charge for the avocado roll… They should have no charged the entire bento box … She did not even finish any of the food in the bento box… At this point I was pissed I couldn’t believe that they were actually going to make her pay for food she didn’t even finish eating, what kind of establishment is this where they don’t even care that they serve patriots hair in their food!!! Wtf !!! She told the waitress to call over the manager… First thing the manager did was come to me and asked me if I have a problem… Hello I’m not the one that found hair in my food; It was my coworker!!! The Manager was trying to play stupid actually had the nerve to say well you only found hair in the avocado roll didn’t you… Wtf We will never visit this establishment again… Heads up Michael you might want to replace your management and the staff that puts hair in the food! Every time I visit this restaurant there’s never anybody there i wonder the reason why!!!

Masa sushi is amazing. In 2006 I tried sushi for the very first time here(the original one off El Camino) they usually have specials running like free mimosas during lunch or 1.00 edamame in addition to their sushi options. Last night my cousin had a birthday party for her husband on the second level of this facility and it was for a party of over 25 people… On a busy Saturday night. Not only was the food amazing with their specialty rolls, the service was continuously pleasing with multiple staff accommodating everyone AND not being upset about split tickets and bills. I love their music selection with the food. Nothing bad to say at all… ever.

Really disappointed in Masa. I used to come here a lot and they have really let themselves go. The booths were old, dirty, and falling apart. There were 7 other customers here when I arrived, so it was not a busy night for them. The edamame was partially cold and hard(uncooked) When I asked the waitress to point me in the direction of a good cold sake, she said she didn’t know anything about them. I asked her to find out from the bar tender. Who was on the phone, after 12 min of waiting I just ordered something. When I received my roll it was mostly rice, almost no fish on it and it took about another 15 min to show up. The staff is friendly and responsive, it’s just the same ol masa, they haven’t changed or upgraded anything even the menu. Will not be back.

Great go to for sushi in Galveston county. My two favorite items are the Masa crunch roll and Masa tower. $ 2.00 large sake on Tuesday nights. Also have a members only club. Gives you the feeling of a secret society.. You earn points to gain discounts. Food is always great atmosphere could use some improvement but nothing to keep me away.

Tonight I ordered a miso soup to go home. As soon as I go home I found a long black strand hair in my soup. The first time I found hair at this location was on my masa tower. Lack of hair nets when preparing food.

I’ve eaten here since they opened, and they are decent. Sad to say recently the quality is going down and the prices are going up. They have a rewards card where you are supposed to get a $ 20 gift card after you spend $ 200. After eating here every other week for years and spending around $ 30 each time, I have yet to earn a gift card. When questioned, they couldn’t explain, only saying I had 120 points at the time. Frustrating they can’t keep up with their gift card promotion… should knock them down another star just for that, but the food over all is 3 stars.

Masa is a great choice if you’re craving some really good sushi! I tried the phili, spicy tuna and salmon rolls and all 3 were really good! The feel inside the restaurant was like every other sushi place, but the waitress was really sweet. Definitely will be back.

I wish I could give 0 stars or even negative stars. This place is right by our house so it is convenient, plus it is by the HeB! I WISH this place was actually decent, but it is beyond disappointing. The wait staff is horrible. They are extremely inattentive and they hate coming back to the table to get you something like spicy mayo or extra ginger. I don’t care if I’m paying extra for it, I just want it! It’s not that hard. The sushi. OMG the sushi is disgusting. ALL the sushi, cooked or raw, comes out one temperature: warm. The textures and the combinations of the specials give you the most disgusting mouth feel. It’s squishy, warm, and the flavors never come together. Every piece is a different size too. Some are small and the others are HUGE. I could barely fit one piece in my mouth so I had to bite it in half.(If you’ve ever eaten sushi and had to take bites, you know what I’m talking about; it’s a total mess.) Sushi is supposed to be bite sized and delicious each and every time you take a different piece. No. Not at Masa Sushi. Not to mention the plates that the sushi comes to you on… Most of the plates are CHIPPED or messed up in one way or another. What if I had cut myself on one of these chipped plates? What if a child had cut themselves on one of these chipped plates? Not classy and not safe. I have given this place a fair shot. I have been here on three different occasions praying it will be better every time. What a total let down. I never, NEVER write negative reviews, but this place is deserves it. It’s my first negative review. I normally just never go back. This place gets on every last one of my nerves.

Really enjoyed this place each time I’ve visited. I wanted special instructions on my veggie tempura and they were accommodating with my requests. The lunch specials are good and great price. The chicken teriyaki is awesome and specialty sushi is outstanding. Both miso and onion soup were excellent but I didn’t care for the ginger salad dressing. My hubby enjoyed the Katsu Don, the chicken Katsu was decent but the teriyaki is better. They have a large selection of choices but I like the lunch options and prices better. Dinner can be pricey and they don’t offer any happy hour specials. The service is always pleasant and friendly but servers should be trained on the menu a bit more.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious sushi and complementary edamame and mimosa. We had the world sampler sashimi that includes 6 different types of fish(2 pieces each) accompanied with avocado piece and jalapeño. The fish was fresh and very large pieces. Next, we had the dizzy(deesy depending on which menu you get) and the Chameleon, both wrapped in cucumber rather than rice. The dizzy was delicious but the chameleon was our favorite! I gave it 4 star because the prices are kind of high although delicious.

Hard to judge the place on my first time then make a review, but I will definitely be back for more. I ordered from the lunch menu the grilled salmon bento box which comes with 4 pieces of california roll, a crab puff(thing…), vegetables, a vegetable roll, rice, soup and salad. It certainly was a filler for a lunch! For the salad, I had their ginger dressing. The other option was a peanut dressing. I tasted both and liked them both. I just thought it was missing something else – after all, the dressing was just slabbed on there without much care for display. The miso soup was quite alright. I mean, can’t go wrong with making miso, right? As for the bento box; the salmon was grilled fine. It actually came with a generous amount. The vegetables… meh. The vegetable roll, quite good. Flavourful. I wish I had more of it. My mom had the yaki udon with chicken and vegetables. The flavour was definitely good, but we’ll try soba next time. We ordered vegetable tempura, as well. Small size. I just couldn’t understand why include onion in there? Like they were trying to make tempura onion rings? Lol. Our server was attentive. Wish I’d gotten his name so he can be properly recognized! Also, like many others here, I, too, noticed the décor. Absolutely gorgeous place. You’ll be surprised with their decorations with looking so simple from the outside. We’ll definitely be back to try more. Also!!! COMPLIMENTARYEDEMAME!!!

Can’t go wrong here!!! Great sushi, fresh, consistently good, service was outstanding! Don’t like sushi? Doesn’t matter bring along those that are just not into it, they will certainly find a bento box or something else to enjoy! Love the Masa tower and we ordered a masa combo that comes with tons of sushi plus a salad and soup. Tonight for the drinkers in the family $ 1.00 saki bombs! Always makes to go place for Sushi and reasonable prices!

As far as non fine dining sushi goes, this place is tops! World sashimi sampler is really, really good. They don’t throw in any«garbage fish», as I call the bland or gross fish I get in a lot of sashimi platters. The Alaska roll topped with real crab is actually one of the best rolls I’ve had(aside from ones at Uchiko in Austin.) Bento boxes looked great; my friends were pleased with them. The décor is really cool.

Sushi and sake, Japanese dining with Texas flare and style – Masa Sushi Sake offers a little something for everyone. Nestled in a shopping center, with easy access and excellent parking, we pulled up on the front side of Masa Sushi Sake, and were met with dark tinted windows, properly obstructing our view of diners. I thought the outside looked good, inviting, slightly upscale for the shopping center in which it was located. It was well-lit for nighttime, and safe and secure. Plenty of wheelchair/van parking close to the entrance. Inside, the décor was not quite Japanese, but we were met with hanging lamps and the classic paper globe lights. To the left, a balcony dining area was plush with linen table cloths and leather backed chairs. In front of us and to the side were regular color-topped tables and wooden chairs. Playing on the overhead stereo is a selection of most of my favorite 80s music. One of my favorite things about going to Masa Sushi is that I love the music, though I do think during happy hour that the music is too loud and intrusive for the dining experience. While the lunch menu was very reasonable(albeit with a limited selection for lunch), the dinner menu was average in pricing for my sushi eating experience, with a much better selection of dishes from which to choose. You can find the Masa Sushi Sake menu online at this website(see end of article for link). With both hot and cold dishes available, and a very limited American cuisine, both sushi fans and picky family members can find something to eat at Masa Sushi Sake. My son loves the tilapia with tempura for the fish and chips, and I must say it is the absolute best fish and chips I have ever eaten. The first time we went to Masa, I wanted to order a little bit of everything, to taste as much as I could in one meal. The wait staff at Masa Sushi Sake are attentive and courteous, and our particular waitress took the time to tell us all the best dishes and tell us what each of the pieces of sashimi we ordered were. We have been back many times since, and have never had bad service at Masa. As with any restaurant, some days are better than others, but the service ranges from good to exceptional. Their busing staff are excellent at making sure you never are without water or soda or tea as well. The Masa Tower is an appetizer that we enjoy, because it gives you a sampling of a variety of flavors, including sweet ground salmon with spicy mayo, spicy tuna, avocado, smelt roe, rice and cucumber in a tower, drizzled with sauce. It’s fun to eat too, sort of like a game of Jenga to see who takes that first bite that makes the tower fall over. We settled on ordering the Sashimi B Dinner Sampler, which is 15 pieces of sashimi, including tuna, octopus with fresh lemon slices, white fish, fresh salmon and super white tuna, nestled beside shredded radish, served with soy sauce and eel sauce. Cost: $ 23.99 Most of the time now, we go in for a late lunch and enjoy the soup and ginger salad with hand rolls or the hot green tea. Sometimes we order tako sashimi(octopus) with lemon and eel sauce. So good. I don’t recommend their bento boxes. They are just blah and not really all that great. But if you like sushi rolls that are pretty, gorgeous sashimi, and beautiful and tasty handrolls, you won’t go wrong here. They also have a loyalty/member card where you earn points each time you dine and every time you earn a certain amount of points, you get a gift card for $ 20 to spend on dining there. We get one about every three trips we take there. We just really consider this our little neighborhood gem restaurant when we want to get away and have something light. I highly recommend it. Wheelchair accessibility is okay. It’s tough to get to the bathrooms, because they have stuff stored in front of the door to the hallway that leads to it, but they try to rush to move things out of your way(which is embarrassing, but at least they are trying.) But other than that, seating and parking for wheelchairs is perfectly adequate and comfortable, with both tables and half-table/half-booth seating.
