Lake George Escape Campground

For starters the staff was all extremely friendly and polite. My issues were with my site which was listed as a premium campsite on the frog pond. This site was overcrowded and small with our tent essentially touching the tent in the next site. We were told when booking that if the site wasn’t good for us they would easily move us. We checked on our first night if we could move to another site and were told they were fully booked. The next night we asked if we could move to a site that was clearly empty. At first the man behind the front desk said yes, minutes later changed his answer and said he didn’t realize it but the site was booked (we checked the remainder of the weekend and nobody ever stayed there). Eventually a nice couple drove by and saw that we were essentially in the middle of two giant parties and not enjoying ourselves and offered us a site down the road that they weren’t using but had booked. I guess the point I’m trying to make is don’t stress that there are quieter options for me when their aren’t. And try to move guests who are clearly uncomfortable with the INSANE noise level at your campsite.

Nowhere close to a camping experience… At least 10−15K ppl around… Tents are no farther than 2ft from each other. The campsites have no grass or green pastures… So called lakes are a no more than a swamp of smelly water…

My family have been coming here for years However this year was different.
Here are some of my Negatives…
Gone is the Two Pools. In its place is a pool ¹⁄₃ its size of their big pool with a 4′ 11″ depth and the smaller pool has been replaced with a splash type area almost like a kiddie pool that is about 3″ deep.(this is a positive for campers with little ones).
So on a hot day you can’t get more than 25 – 30 people in this pool before it gets crowded.
They also took the bingo tent and moved it right next to the treeline on the Softball field. So now, you are attacked by more bugs and you have to walk ½ way across the field to play Bingo.
The store although clean is very minimaly stocked and very overpriced (2.00) for a soap dish They have a strict policy of vehicles going 5 MPH.
However., I see golf carts doing about 10 or more MPH. Even the ones that the staff drive around in (with a 5 MPH sign on it). My son was almost his by one this year. They need to get control of this.
Positives… it is still a clean park with a very hospitable staff.
The bathrooms and showers are well maintained.

About 3 yrs ago they messed up our reservation (on Labor Day weekend) and we were forced to go somewhere else
They reached out and offered to give us a free stay but due to personal family issues we were unable to take advantage of this offer. This point alone is the reason we still come back.

The location is great and the staff was awesome. The property is well laid out and kept. There were quite a few activities for the kids and the tubing on the river was a good time. The downside and it’s a big one is the mosquitoes. They are off the hook, we went through 6 cans of DEET in 3 days and I still have a ton of bites. They need to spray the property regularly to help this issue. The other area that needs help is the Funcenter which is adorned with out of order signs and in desperate need of updating and the porti-​potties which are just plain nasty, a public dung pile would be more hygienic. I see that several of our issues are the same as others which have reviewed the property both here and on Trip Advisor, my only observation from that is that apparently the management either don’t pay attention to reviews or just don’t care.

First, we requested a wooded spot. We got it alright but how were we to know that we should be prepared to be eaten alive (and walk about an approx. ¾ mile to the Lodge). These sites are surrounded by an enormous swamp with standing water. A staff member’s response to our site was «Oh, you are in «Mosquitoville». Of course you should expect Mosquitos but it would have been nice if we were informed about the enormous body of standing water that surrounded us.
Worst if all, there are NO reasonable accommodations for anyone who needs assistance, special needs, elderly, etc. our campsite was so faraway from the Lodge, it required transportation for a family member from our site (we wanted to take advantage of the shuttle to Lake George). When we saw rental golf carts we were so relieved. But wait! You cannot use these to leave at the lodge while you are in town! The VERY RUDE staff at the desk informed us that all the carts operate with the SAME KEY and if we parked it at the Lodge while we were downtown, someone would take it!
Now, I don’t own/​operate a campground but even from that perspective one could figure out various ways to enable a guest to do so. Even when we explained that there was a person with special needs in our family, we were looked at with bewilderment. We ended up renting one (to the tune of $ 95 per day) so we could drive our family member to the Lodge, drive the cart back to our site and then WALK back to the Lodge. After a long day in town, we had to do the same in the reverse. Even worse, at the end of the day, the van that took us to town drove past me when I was halfway to my campsite and stopped to pick up a gentleman walking about ten feet in front of me and asked if he wanted a ride! His campsite was in the same section as mine! It wasn’t funny when they passed me later (I got lost) and when flagged down to ask for some direction, I was told «I don’t know this area, I never come up here»!
When we asked about a sign that said «Shuttle» which was in a reasonable walking distance from our site, we were told by the Lodge staff that this didn’t exist. Lol, I wanted to take a picture of it and show them but I am sure they would have repeated «I JUST TOLD YOU, THE ONLY SHUTTLE PICK UP IS AT THE LODGE». Btw, the shuttle pick up is at the Gazebo, not the Lodge.
Also, the staff is beyond rude. Almost everyone we encountered was curt, disdainful and some wouldn’t look at or speak to you. The only explanation is that I believe they must suffer from the «I Hate People Syndrome» which can occur in a retail/​service environment if left unchecked by ownership or management. This leads one to believe that this is the culture from the top down. We did find the woman who took our order at the Grille to be courteous and kind and the shuttle driver was pleasant and talkative which was a treat in comparison to the rest of our experience.
We planned on cooking outdoors and when we went to the Lodge to purchase the grill to cover the pit, we were informed «Oh, we’ve had those but we don’t now.» Wow, at this point I thought I was living in a sitcom. Also, don’t expect to be asked if they can help you, even if you are the only customer shopping and obviously in need if assistance.
To be fair, children seemed to be enjoying themselves (and adults as well as there were a number of occupied seasonal sites in our area). Also, we ate at the restaurant and the fare was pretty good for what it was. However, just know that it cost us $ 45+ for three sandwiches and three non-​alcoholic slushes.
It must be said though, that you must be careful where you walk as there are are pet owners who don’t pick up dog waste and upon closer inspection of the sites while walking, there were bottles, trash, cans, etc., left behind. There was trash left behind at our site as well.
John Muir would not have enjoyed a stay here.

We stayed there July 6^th thru July 8^th. They had just opened their pools up and they were beautiful. The best part was the DJ, dancing and Karaōke was the best part! We were at a tent site, across from the laundry, bathrooms and showers. Which were kept clean. They have a lot of activities to do, throughout the day, so you don’t ever have to leave the campground.
Only downside about their location, is the mosquitos. The mosquitos are terrible. You’ll need good bug spray, with a high % of deet!

It is a great campground. The sites are clean and big. The staff is friendly and helpful. The only exception is the staff at the poolside grill and the funhouse. They are worthless. They don’t want to be there and they let you know it. Too bad because they can spoil the whole experience. Plus, most of the games in the funhouse are broken.

I found Lake George Escape campground on my way to Canada trying out my new RV. We loved this place so much we decided to stay here instead of going to Canada. They have a lot to do here… anything from enjoying the 2 heated pools to riding your bike around the entire campground. bring a bike by the way, the place is huge and the bike will be a nice way to enjoy the scenery.

Great campground a lot to do for the kids. Dj every night only 5miles from lake George also they provide shuttle service to lake George and great escape also there is tubing on the River very friendly staff they keep the place very clean they also have a bar on site

We love this place!!! So much to do, the kids never want to leave for the day to go anywhere else! Pools are great. Bathrooms clean! We look forward to returning every year!

We camped there for 4 nights. Really enjoyed this campground. Lots of things to do. They have 2 pools, swimming/​tubing/​kayaking on the Scroon river, hayrides every night. Though we have a camper, I made it a point to check out the bathrooms. They seemed pretty clean. Free hot showers. Only thing that could use some work, is the bar and grill. None of the video games seemed to work and the food wasn’t all that great, but the lady running it was really nice. We’d definitely go back again!

This place is awesome! If you’re looking for a campground where you never have to leave, this is the place to go. The park has everything, restaurant, entertainment, pool, lots of great activities for kids. The staff were really kind as well. The music can get loud so if you have young kids going to bed early make sure to book a site away from the entertainment. Overall, great experience! We’ll definitely be going back this year.

We spent a weekend at this campground trying out our new Motorhome.
Reservation was easy, the staff at check in was friendly and gave us a better site than we booked (location wise), grounds were clean and well maintained.

I thought I already posted this after our stay sept 2012 but appears not so posting now to hopefully save other would-​be campers from this shit-​hole. They have more similar reviews on Tripadvisor.
One thing you’ll notice all over the front office and security booth is they list the quiet hours and make it very clear that it’s «Strictly Enforced». I believe they put that there as a joke because it’s definitely not true.
Friday and Saturday quiet hours start at 11p. Our site was close to 3 others that were a group, they all congregated at a single site after they put their kids. About 1:30 or 2 we woke up to music suddenly blasting, from then on the voices got louder, the awful singing became more constant and the conversations more ridiculous. Around 3:30 we decided to take a walk to the front security booth and see what they could do.
I wasn’t about to approach a group of 12 wasted campers myself; in no way did that make sense as most of them were belligerent and picking fights amongst themselves already.
Security booth = empty. Sign lists a phone number to reach security, I called and got a voicemail that says they check it periodically. Oops, voicemail is full. We tried to call every hour, always full. We took another walk at 4:30 and still never found any security.
Finally about 5:30am the group passed out (only after the loudest of them went into the emotional drunk state and had a good loud cry).
At 8 we went to the front desk and talked to the staff — she was friendly but didn’t sound the least bit surprised that we couldn’t get a hold of security. «oh that’s fred…» was the response.
She said they’d talk to the group and gave us a different site further away. The site was better and much quieter.
The next night the group was just as loud — since we were further away it was more just background noise so we were able to sleep, but around 3am I did wake up to the same voice from the night before screaming that he just doesn’t give an F… This went on for about 15minutes and I assume he cried himself to sleep again.
General noise of people talking at their campsite is one thing and really isn’t bother — but this group was totally out of control and security was no where to be found.
To the woman in the group singing Gwar and Pearl Jam all night — please stop, for the sake of everyone you may camp near in the future. Wait, who still listens to Gwar?
As far as the rest of the campground goes it’s fine. We found the showers to be ok and the bathrooms were kept pretty clean. The staff that was cleaning the showers was super nice and seemed to be keeping up with them that morning. Let’s be realistic, they’re showers at a campground, they give them a quick spray down and maybe a mop so I still wouldn’t go in there without flip flops on.
There’s no way we’d stay here again. I don’t know how we missed all the bad reviews on tripadvisor but by the time we saw them it was too late to get our deposit back so we gave it a shot.
