This is by far my very favorite restaurant in Mexican-town. From the reassuring greeting of the parking lot attendant to the smiling hosts that instantly address you as you walk in, the initial encounter is always a pleasant one. There is sometimes a wait but never for longer than a few minutes. The décor is colorful and festive. The wait staff are equally as friendly and eager to serve. My family likes the lemonade and I love their margaritas, of which there are a few varieties to choose from. The portions are impressive and the food is very flavorful. My husband and I like to order a medium burger nacho to share. This visit I added a medium shrimp cocktail with is accompanied with avocado and pico de gallo for a traditional flair. My nephew ordered the taco salad topped with a heaping pile of steak and a pineapple Jarritos soda imported from Mexico. All in all, my family loves Los Galanes and are repeat regular customers. Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

I had the Mexican tacos and they were fantastic! The meats are very flavorful, the salsa are richly spiced and the guacamole tastes incredibly fresh and creamy. The restaurant itself also has fun décor which I liked. I enjoyed my meal here thoroughly!

Pretty solid Mexican in Mexicantown. I had the Camarones a la Diabla which I liked, though it would appear that most authentic mexican uses a soupier tomato sauce than I like. I discount this entirely to personal taste though. I had exactly the same complaint recently in Tijuana so it’s a ME problem. The staff was very friendly, and for how busy it was, the wait was about what you’d expect. Truly the biggest thing working against this place is how busy it seems to be. The parking is a lot onsite, but if it fills up a man stands there and prevents you from getting in forcing you look somewhere else. Overall I can’t say I’d make a special trip, but it is a worthwhile stop if you are in the area.

This is a great place, had lunch and it was excellent, the prices were perfect for the amount of food.

Busy Saturday night in the city. Wait times everywhere. Restaurants packed. Good to see. Wait time here was about 10 minutes. Not bad. Menu was good. Our party of four ordered flaming cheese as an appetizer and combination platters. All were well-prepared and tasty. One of our party had a birthday the day before, so we wanted to order a dessert, but after our meals were delivered(slow, but not too bad for a busy night), our server disappeared — for a long time. Finally, one of our party went to the hostess desk and asked if our server could bring the check. We all needed boxes. She never even asked about dessert. She brought the boxes and the check and disappeared. By this time, the crowd had died down, so it’s not like she was trying to turn the table. Terrible service. My father and I used to come here when they had a lunch buffet, and it was decent. Perhaps I’ll give it another shot, but this last experience was less than stellar.

I’ve never really been a big fan of the area. Heck, I’ve never really wanted to set foot in any of the restaurants here… the reason? Because, everybody who raves and say great things about the restaurants here are the«chicken fingers and potato sticks» crowd. Boy was I wrong! I have been wronged in so many levels. But I will still consider this spot the TOURISTMEXICANTOWN. Because it just is. Anyways, let’s do the review… I have found the Holy place of where you can avail of good booze and good mexican food at the same time. We started with the 2 Golden Margaritas which is their simple margarita and an order of shrimp and fish cevice. This is booze and food while we wait for the crew to assemble. After everybody arrives, we immediately order the main event and a round of mezcal shots for everyone. Caldo de Marisco to share, comes with flour tortillas with beans, veggies and rice. The food, the booze and the service was perfect. I don’t know if I would want to try any of the other restaurants around the area, but Los Galanes definitely set the bar up for the other«Touristy Mexican» restaurants around the area. I would definitely be back because I love your food. We finished off with 5 more shots of mezcal! Viva Los Galanes!

My coworkers and I stopped in for lunch a few weeks ago. My husband and I regularly frequent Mi Pueblo, so I was curious to see how the local competition was. The inside of Los Galanes is cute and festive, and it is located very close to the best churros in town at La Gloria, across the street. However, the food was a little overpriced, considering the quality and pricing of other restaurants in town. The tostada salad was decent, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. And what’s up with the chip charge? Apparently, only your first basket of chips and salsa is free. Thereafter, you’re charged for each subsequent one. I couldn’t really make sense of it(chips and salsa are not expensive items), other than assuming that most people ask for more chips without thinking since they’re unlimited and free at every other restaurant. So, that’s one thing to be conscious of…

Second time back to Los Galanes and compared to the other Mexicantown restaurants, this is my favorite. Great Margaritas, the food is delicious and the prices are great. There is a big menu, I’ve tried a few things and while it’s not the best Mexican food I’ve ever had, it’s pretty good! Love the chips and salsa, the flaming cheese, and the Mexican Sandwich. The wet burrito seems to be a big favorite around here and it’s really good with the chopped beef. One of our favorite Friday night places to go!

It’s definitely not the best Mexican food that I’ve ever had, but it’s still pretty damn good. I’ve been here a few times now and I’ve never been disappointed. The enchiladas are delicious and well as the quesadillas. One thing I thought was weird was that they use a pre made mix for their frozen margaritas but their regular margaritas are homemade. I just don’t get why there would be a difference. I also love that they have their own parking lot. Makes it super convent and easy to get to.

Our second visit. Excellent service from Juan D S. Delicious food and atmosphere. Nice and cozy on a frigid 19° day in February. We had a 10 minute wait for seating on Valentines day around 2pm. Steady stream of customers.

My second visit here with my team. We were there around 11.15 for lunch and it many were not there. But after completing our lunch we can see almost all the tables are busy. That itself will speak how busy the place is. This time I tried enchilada suizas with chicken in it. It had green tomatilo sauce but other than that not a big difference. But I liked it. Portion is good. It comes with rice and beans.

I’ve been in Michigan for about a month now for family emergency and have been craving some good, authentic Mexican food. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but it was still good. Been here twice and my favorite has been the chicken flautas. Not a big fan of muenster cheese on my enchilada and wish they would have fresh tortillas.

We come to los galanes as often as possible. I’ve come since the beginning of last summer(My first time going to Mexican town was Xochimilco, by a friend — regretful. And another place not even worth remembering the name of down the street. Even further regretful.) Five stars for LOSGALANES for food and décor, took one off for bathroom atmosphere and fountain soda tasting like crap. Drinks are always strong leave you feelin good. Always order Shrimp fajitas no tomatoes, mountain pile of cheese on side. Comes with guacamole, but we like to add a side of avocado, sour cream, and jalapeños. We get just rice no beans. And I always order a bottle of Coke over fountain Coke because of taste. And my boyfriend always ends up wanting mine lol. Update: the bathrooms aren’t so bad if you’re short. They’re clean, but the doors are hard to shut and one of them is missing the lock, just uncomfortable. And pop is no worse than your local bar’s fountain syrup. Def my fav Mexican go-to. Los Galanes is the place you go to when you realize you need new friends-after being taken to Xochimilco lol.

I’ve been going to Lupita’s regularly and decided to switch things up. The people are very friendly here and they have a nice patio. Always able to get a table here and the food is fast. Their flautas are my favorite! Had the chicken enchiladas here, too, and those are alright.

It was ok. Typical Mexican food which is good. There restaurant was relatively empty, it was Tuesday, not much going on in the area. Our server was nice. Restaurant décor was eclectic and a tad dated. I liked the lights coming into the building and the graffiti art on the outside. The bathrooms stalls were small and kinda odd. We ordered a liter of the peach margaritas, it looked like orange Fanta but tasted ok. Chicken chimichanga was tasty, rice was ok, but the refried beans were awful and tasteless. My companion has the shrimp salad and it was so good. The chips and salsa were good.

Words cannot express the perfection of this place! First off, they give you complimentary chips and salsa to munch on while you browse through the menu. Once I made a decision of what I wanted,(I ordered the California burrito) I waited only about 10 minutes for my food. During those 10 minutes, I was tortured by the surrounding smell of delicious entrées and feeling the disappointment every time the waiter came out with food that ended up not being ours. When I finally received my food, I immediately took a bite. Man, I never had anything more delicious. It is WAY more superb than chipotles«burritos» and even came with a side of extra rice and beans. On top of this excellent experience, the cherry on top was the bill! Everything here is pretty cheap, so you get both quality and quantity here! If you haven’t been here before, please exit off your Unilocal app and start driving your way to Detroit’s Mexican town’s gem!!! Ps: there is a parking lot available

Sub par, mediocre, «out of the box» Mexican. Not much flavor, not much good to say about the place. I’d rather eat Taco Bell. Very bland, watered down Americanized crappy food. Look at the pic posted by O o. Chopped iceberg lettuce, a tiny bit of tomato, dry ass rice and very boring looking something in a shell covered in cheese, I’m guessing enchiladas. Even the pic looks flavorless and boring. No pico, no guac, no salsa on the rice or on the side, no flavor. Sure you can add all of that stuff, but why should I have to make my own food table-side just to get some flavor in it? The couple of times I went here I found myself dousing everything in salsa just to make it not dry and put some flavor into it. And I’ll second the sentiments about the owner posted below. I have seen him act like a classless DB, and he’s extremely confrontational. El Assador and El Barzon are much better options local to this place. If you want to stay in that exact area, go to Xociomilcos across the street. It’s dirty and dingy, but the food is 10xs better.

How can you say anything bad about Los Galanes? This is a LEGENDARY Mexicantown staple! HUGE restaurant with upstairs, full bar, and a GREAT menu. You can get your fixins of classic tacos Mexicanos, but also they have Mexican specialities and traditional favorites like soup, pescado, tortas, and SPICY salsas! Watch out for the salsa verde, it’s pretty spicy. Your first order of chips & salsa is complimentary, but subsequent orders are $ 1 each. I think that’s a small price to pay for amazing salsa — bursting with flavor and tons of cilantro. This place is especially fun on Cinco de Mayo when it’s really busy.

We came here for dinner on a Sunday night. We were greeted by Danny who was our server. What a great choice we made to come to this Mexican town in downtown Detroit. Excellent place. Danny the server is amazing. Very hospitable, friendly, went out of his way to accommodate us with the side dishes and anything we wanted. I ordered a wet burrito according to Danny’s recommendation. It was a great option for me, it had guacamole, beans, meat, corn, sour cream, topped off with burrito sauce. Their pint of margarita was excellent as well. They make almost everything in house so nothing was far off great. We ended the dinner with an excellent desert of cheesecake and fried ice cream. It was very reasonable, for only $ 3.75. Does sauce on the cheesecake and fried ice cream was to die for. Will have to work out at the gym for the extra calories we ate :) Check out the picturesto get a better idea of what I’m talking about. I usually look at the pictures and decide what I like to eat. We had a great time. I suggest getting a reservation during the weekends but if you’re coming in a little bit later closer to nine or 10 o’clock at night you should not need one. We will be back!

For Mexican-American food, Los Galanes is a must stop in Mexicantown. Their restaurant is clean, has a friendly staff, and a fun, colorful vibe. During warmer weather, enjoy the outdoor patio :) The food is, to me, run of the mill Mexican American food. Typical of most restaurants but Galanes has a few shining stars if you’re interested in trying something more than tacos or enchiladas. I LOVE their mole enchiladas and this is one of the few places that does them. Just enough savory yet sweet mole sauce to entice your tastes buds, not too much to scare them away. Their seafood selection is always great since this is one of their regional specialities. I personally love their tortillas since they are homemade, in-house but based on previous reviews, you may have to come in and try for yourself. Because their food is consistent and good and I can count on a fun, clean environment I am definitely a fan!
