Archer Motel

For any others out there that might like to try this motel, like I did, the Archer Motel is now a Kum & Go. No kidding, it’s gone and has been since 2014. Not sure why Unilocal is keeping this listing online, but trust me, this motel is now a convenience store.

As the Executive Director of the Route 6 Tourist Association, I criss-​cross Iowa many times per year, and I am always on the look out for a good value, particularly in a locally owned establishment. The service is better, and the ambiance is always unique. While mom & pop motels can be a little dicey at times in terms of quality of the rooms and upkeep, the Archer Motel is one of the safe bets. The Archer has its beginnings as a country club (see the attached photo from 1910) and was later added onto to make a motel. It is well kept up, and comfortable (unless you choose the twin beds, which are very firm). They have cable, free wifi, AC, and a swimming pool, all at a very reasonable rate for the stay. The Archer Motel is located in the apex of current Route ⁶⁄₆₅ and Broadway Ave (Historic Route 6.) Get off that interstate, hop on the old two lane, and stay in a classic mom & pop motel that offers you a slice of nostalgia.
