I think the pizza here is pretty good. It’s a little pricey, but I honestly think that’s because of location. They do estimate time for like 10 minutes, but it took around 15 – 20 to get my pizza. The slices are really big. When they«sell by the slice» they mean it’s actually 2 «slices» that equal up to a quarter of a large pizza. I think the quality of the pizza was great and there wasn’t a huge crust(which is sometimes really annoying). I’ll definitely be coming back.

Rude employee taking the order. «yah what do you want.?» «Do you have any specials tonight?» «No.» Didn’t get any better and didn’t place an order. Haven’t gone back.

Be aware! Bring cash! They’ll charge you a dollar if you pay with credit or debit card because«that’s what the boss said!» And they’re not very nice about it but I suppose they’ve heard the complaints about that numerous times. I’m not sure the foods worth the extra dollar either and it negated any tip we might have left.

It was sooooooo good!!! Whenever I order from here I usually just get the calzone. My boyfriend wanted to try their«Chicago style deep dish», it was amazing! We ordered a medium supreme no mushrooms and no olives. It was by far and easily one of the best pizza’s I’ve ever had, the pick up time was 20min. When we opened it, it was still hot and when we ate it… omg!!! We wanted to order another the next day, but they are closed on Sundays :-(if they weren’t we would have because it was ridiculously delicious!!! Even the Italian roast beef calzone that I STILL ordered was delicious, but the two still tasted different. Never had their regular pizzas, but their calzones and«Chicago style deep dish» are worth the price!

Our first impression of this place was teetering on 2 stars at best… we each ordered a «slice»(which is actually two slices) and 25 min later were like«dude, wtf.» It was not excessively busy. We inquired and it was obvious we had been forgotten. We were going to just eat it and get the hell out and mark it off our options for later… but then we ate the pizza. Hot diggity that’s some goddamn good pizza. We were hooked and all was forgiven. So now we go just about every weekend and ITPAINSME they are not open on Sunday. MUCH. SADNESS. Ah – and if you get a full pizza, get the extra large instead of the large. It’s like $ 1 more but 2″ more pizza. A no-brainer. Atmosphere and employees are solid as well. Would love to come some night for comedy night in the basement but alas, a wee one at home prevents this! At least for the next few years! ;)

Do people really come here for the pizza and not just the shows downstairs? I got pizza here twice(got hungry during/after a show downstairs) and ended up being sucked into getting pizza here. Oh my god. On both occasions, I could have walked to Crooked Crust and back in the time it took for my pizza to get to me. One slice of pizza, mind you. And It’s not like it’s good pizza. Not at all. For how long it takes them to make it it’s never been good. Don’t come here for the pizza. I’m no spring chicken so I don’t foresee myself coming here for another show but, I won’t fall for the supposed convenience of having a pizza parlor upstairs again.

What happened? Haven’t been there for awhile but nothing like it was a couple of years ago. Dry, very little meat(ordered 3 different kinds & seems like they 1⁄3 each portion) and no extra cheese when I ordered it, was it real cheese or processed and few mushrooms you think there was a shortage. The crust was short of tasteless & oily bottom. Not the way was, hope it was a off night or off chef. Sad very !

Came here on Saturday with friends for lunch. Upon entering the location I was not impressed by the environment of the place. Even before eating, the place to me looked not clean and not very inviting . Boyfriend and I ordered our food. He ordered a sub and I ordered a slice of hawian pizza. My boyfriend ordered a draft beer and it was pretty bad not the type of beer because we have had it many times before but the quality of the tap. Staff was friendly which was nice. The food did take a while to arrive but they looked rather low on staff and it was lunch hour. My pizza was very greasy and the overall quality of both of our entrees was pretty low . To conclude, it was just an okay experience. I will probably not return because it was not a memorable place and not great food. Much nicer places to go to on the square.

J &J’s has great pizza at a good price. The pizza is full of flavor and does not have that«mall pizza» taste most other pizzerias have. It’s good but like the other menu items it lacks the push to reach another level. Dressing comes out of a package and the wings are generic. The service is OK but not great and the lobby and dining area feels average. Something about this place doesn’t make me want to spend much time here eating or having a conversation with a friend. The basement has a pool table and is where local bands play during the week. Overall this place is Ok. Give it a try if you are at the square but it is definitely not worth a detour.

Love the pizza but they charge you a dollar if you use your credit card which is a turn off. I am pretty sure it’s illegal to do that(see link below).

Ate here after recommendation from a friend. The pizza was awesome. Also had the spaghetti which was a good portion for leftovers. It is a dingy little dive with a cool ambiance that looks out on the square. Also has a bar where you can sit. Kids are welcome. We didn’t like standing in a line to order, but seems like a lot of places are that way these days to save on staff. For the price we would have liked a little more service but left more than full and will continue to eat there and support the local businesses over the corporate pizza chains.

Disappointing. $ 35 + tip for a small salad that came with a PACKET of salad dressing, breadsticks & marinara, a 12″ medium pepperoni pizza and 2 fountain drinks. The salad was crisp and good and I would have enjoyed it a lot with a better quality dressing. The breadsticks reminded me of Little Caesar’s. The hubby liked them more than I did but we both agree $ 7 was absurd. The pizza was just okay. It had a fairly good crust and lots of cheese but lacking pizzeria flavor. The customer service was really lacking and we both felt the meal was very average for the price we paid. The inside is pretty run down and dated. There is a surcharge for everything. An ugly handwritten sign on the register demands a 20% tip for walked orders. Ummm… wow. There is also a $ 1 charge to use a credit card. The real bummer was the service or lack thereof. The 20% tip sign was a real turn off. We are good tippers, often in excess of 20% at a full service restaurant but when I get my own drink, silverware, napkins, etc, that is just plain greedy.

For the same $$$ you can go to Mellow Mushroom for much better pizza and a billion times better service. This place is full of the ol’ «us and them’ attitude by the employees and management. It is surely the sign of a company on the final brink of failure. Inflated prices for marginal product, delivered by bitter staff. I paid over $ 30 for two draft beers, two slices of pizza, an order of bread-sticks, and service delivered with a frown. Compare this to Pizza Hut. Which honestly isn’t as good taste wise. But check out this 1 — 10 run down… Pizza Hut: Taste: 3 Service: 6 Price for what you get: 8 Local Flare: 1 Total score: 18 JJs: Taste: 5.5 Service: 1 Price for what you get: 2 Local flare: 7 Total score: 15.5 Mellow Mushroom Taste: 8.5 Service: 8.5 Price for what you get: 6 Local flare: 7 Total score: 30 J&J’s Pizza scores right between Long John Silvers and Taco Bell. Use caution.

We tried J&J’s based on several friends recommendations. Typically, I would write a full review giving details on everything, but this place isn’t worth my time. I’m terribly surprised by how many people like this place and how it’s in business. Don’t eat here. Just don’t. You will thank me.

I like this little grungy pizza parlor, I do. Their lackadaisical service fits their aging historical location. They’re just comfortable in their own skin. It’s a tad on the expensive side, and the Chicago style is more than the New York style obviously because of the girth, but depending on your hunger level both are equally satisfying. The ingredients do taste fresh and the salads are crisp and delightfully light. When I’m laying on my blanket under the trees on the courthouse lawn and I get a rumble in my tummy, I look up and smile. Because there she is-JJ’s in all her glory. I usually get a slice to go and its hot and good. It hasn’t changed a bit in 7 years, and I hope she never does. Music venue in the basement for local bands which is cool for the youngsters. A Denton staple for sure.

Both times I enjoyed the biggest bowl of soup. First time I dined on the sidewalk & enjoyed superb customer service! Tonight I sat at the bar & the top notch customer service was not to be found; wild since I was so close to the staff.

J&J’s is a rad place. The cheesy breadsticks are so good and the walls are straight up COVERED in old Schlitz memorabilia. The pizza is above-average but a little pricey for what it is. The basement venue is a little terrifying but absolutely unique and you might see an awesome show. Really, if a band you like is playing at J&J’s, you won’t see them like this anywhere else. It’s basically a cave with a pool table. Stay up top and enjoy the décor and cheesesticks, pop downstairs and enjoy the noise and fear.

Pizza by the slice, beer by the can and bands by the… i don’t really know what. Anyways this place is right on Denton’s famous square. Still holds true to the old building without much done other than a marked off kitchen. Make your way down stairs to watch bands gettin down and they even have a pool table to use if the band sucks. Staff has always been short to the point here, but quick with action. They bring the pizza out to you and even crack you a beer while waiting. Pizza is made to order and comes out fresh and oh so good! There really isn’t much i would change here. The building is becoming run down, but oddly it fits. About the only thing i don’t suggest is the bathrooms.
