The interior of this place is beautiful if you like contemporary, elegant design. The majority of the restaurant is white and silver so very modern and clean looking. The lounge is supposedly packed on weekends, but I went for dinner with my boss last night and it was dead. The food was great. The salad I ordered was HUGE and could have been an entrée it was so massive. The lentil tomato soup is very hearty and nice. For my entrée I ordered the lemon wine caper salmon and HIGHLY recommend it. Keep in mind that no sides are served with the meat/seafood dishes, so it is critical to order something on the side. The salmon was prepared with capers as well as actual huge caper berries that were so salty and amazing I almost went into shock :) The filet was so large that I had enough for a full meal for my boyfriend upon leaving. it looked like i hadn’t touched it when in fact I had eaten half! I ordered the sauteed garlic mushrooms on the side– wow. For dessert, a nice double cappuccino with tuaca was nice, I wasn’t completely elated about the vanilla/chocolate rolled sponge cake with chocolate sauce and powdered sugar sprinkled all over it. The waiter said that it was the most popular dessert. I think I should have gone with the hazelnut chocolate ice cream. The cannoli was great(tried my boss’s) and perfectly creamy without too many chocolate chips. The one star deduction was for the snippy hostess and also that a few of the wines on the wine list were not actually in house… which was annoying. Our waiter was nice, but not incredibly knowledgeable about the wine list, etc and I feel that is key when at a fine dining establishment.

This place was called Scalini’s prior. The old owner was a funny little man with a terrible toupe’. Good thin ghe didn’t go hunting with Dick Cheney, his ass would’ve gotten plugged quickly! Anyway, they sold it to the folks from Pasquale in La Jolla. Did a complete revamp of the interior and now its hot! Comfortable booths, tables lounge area, and fellas… some very sexy ladies there! Friday and Saturday’s are good so check it out!

I have eaten lunch at the original Pasquale’s in La Jolla many times and have always been seriously impressed so I was excited when they opened up a location a little closer to home in Del Mar. My wife and had an early dinner there on Wednesday and I’m sorry to say that it was just terrible. It just wasn’t in the same league as the food I was used to at the La Jolla location and I even had to double check that they were in fact related. Firstly my calamari appetizer was extremely tough and tasted a little stale. My wifes salad was o.k. but just that. Next up my wife had the Bucatini Carbonara which was salty beyond imagining and just inedible. The waiter warned us when we ordered it that it was a little salty but having eaten the dish before in many places including Italy we were confident that we knew what we were getting into. Since he felt the need to mention it I can only assume now that other people have also found it to be way too salty. To the restaurant I say this — we are not completely uneducated diners, we have some idea about how things should taste and this is not it. My entrée was the Osso Buco which came recommedned by the server and it was o. k but again not special. Finally we ordered the pistacchio gelato for dessert and two coffees. The gelato was o. k but both coffees arrived cold. In the end I don’t think this meal was nearly good enough, Market just down the street is far far better.

I went on Thursday night and sat at the bar and my experience was nothing like the previous Unilocalers. I had a few glasses of wine and a salad and everything was great. Including the people watching ;) It’s a little too Miami style(all white and crystal) but it’s exactly what I was expecting. If you live in the area and you are in the mood to go have a few drinks and people watch I recomend going. I’m not sure if the dining room has great food or service but if you are looking for an amazing food experience then go to Market next door, Blanca in Solana Beach, or Mille Fleur in the ranch.

My husband and I will usually try all new places at least twice, as some– times«wrinkles» in the kitchen must be ironed out– but I will not be coming back here again. I had the Tagliatelle Pescatore, one of the mussels in it was spoiled and full of sand. I had to run to the beautifully appointed bathroom to spit it out! Gross, repulsive, revolting, disgusting ooginess! Décor-wise, they were trying for«light and airy» and ended up with «white and sterile». Other members of our table had the Ravioli Rossini which looked good, and the Insalata di mele(Bibb lettuce with Granny Smith apples, gorgonzola and curry dressing) which was called«very good.» The appetizers we ordered were great: bruschetta and a mixed antipasto plate. Parking very easy. Salads $ 10 – 14.Pastas $ 10-, pizzas 11 – 16 bucks and entrees 15 to 17 clams(but don’t order ‘em).

Last night I had dinner at this place and had a very disappointing experience. What really made me uncomfortable was the poor quality of the food. The overpriced menu is boring and ingredients definitely below average. Our waiter was professional, but unfriendly and not interested in give us the right impression. If Unilocal allowed me, I would give this place zero stars.
