I was surfing the web for a good hair stylist in Danville and came upon Advanced Cut and Color Salon. After having read all the reviews, I was sold. Joanne is a wonderful hair stylist. She really listens attentively to what the customer wants done, gives constructive input, and performs her magic. I am always pleased with the end result. She is professional, clean, and meticulous. Twice I have been approached by strangers who tell me that my haircuts look expensive, and then they ask where I go. It doesn’t get any better than that. Thank you, Joanne. You are a keeper!

Jo Anne has done my cut and color for years. At first I used to try to save time by getting my hair done locally but learned quickly that the hour drive was SOOO worth the results. She got my hair right every single time. Perfect cut. Beautiful texture and shine. Rich natural looking color. Covered all my gray. Every time I got my hair done by Jo Anne I spent weeks fielding one complement after the other. I even had several friends go to her because no one else in our area could do such an amazing job. If you want a good cut and color, don’t waste your time elsewhere. This woman is a true pro!

Joanne is a very professional stylist. She returns phone calls quickly, does consistently good cuts, and is easy to be around — very kind and caring. When I explain something about my hair, she actually listens and understands. I also like her solo operation with minimal distractions. She is always on time, and focuses on one customer at a time so I’m in and out with no waiting around. The whole experience is always smooth and pleasant.

Joanne is definitely one of the most caring and dedicated hair stylists I’ve ever met — I’ve been going to her for the past 7 years and even when I moved out of state I would come to her while visiting the area.
Beyond her technical skills, she is kind, attentive, sweet, and really cares about your happiness and the quality of her work. There have been a few times when we tried something new with my hair and the results weren’t perfect — she redid and kept tweaking everything for free until it was perfection. None of this «Come back and I’ll charge you less to fix my mistakes» stuff — just professionalism and dedication.
She remembers my style, takes copious notes, and uses only the highest quality products — she’s always giving me new samples to try or when a bottle of something is ending I get to keep it after our sessions!
I really cannot say enough about how much I appreciate her. I found my forever stylist who is never complacent with having a loyal customer, but rather strives to do even better work for them.
Give her a call, but be sure to ask a couple weeks out! She’s super busy, but has often stayed late or worked a weekend just because it was the only time I had — now THAT’S customer service.

I haven’t actually been to the salon to get my hair done by Joanne BUT I did call today to see it I could schedule an appt. I explained to her how I have a hard time getting from darker hair to a much lighter color. She stayed on the phone with me for almost 15 minutes, explaining how colors work and/​or don’t. She was booked a while out (a great sign) and recommended what I need to tell my current stylist to do to lighten up my hair in the meantime. Total sweetheart who definitely has her clients best interest at heart. Never thought I’d say this, but I’m actually looking forward to my roots growing out so I can visit Joanne!

2013 update to my first glowing review in 2008:
I’ve now been going to Joanne exclusively for 5 years. For 5 years, my hair has looked its best — through varying styles, colors and lengths and through the rigor of having two kiddos and the accompanying post-​pregnancy hair loss with each.
I followed her from Stravaganza to her newer, private salon and would travel farther if I had to. She has been consistently thorough, detailed and attentive throughout our entire relationship, and I trust her recommendations. I get compliments with every cut or color and refer my friends to her with zero hesitation. Nobody else touches my hair! Xoxo to Joanne. :)

I found Joanne on Unilocal so it is finally time that I give back. She is one of the best hair stylists I’ve ever had. I have been going to her for a few years now. I moved to CA from out of state, so Joanne is the only hair stylist I’ve had here. She listens to you. She literally takes notes about what you want in a hair style and in your hair color. I love my highlights. She has figured out the best color for me (think Jennifer Aniston blonde) and I walk away happy every time. She gives a good hair cut too. She is friendly, sweet and professional. I highly recommend her.

Today was my second cut with Joanne and I LOVE MY HAIR!!! I have found my forever sytylist!!!
I’ve been living in California for about five years now, and while I’ve met a number of very good stylists — I’ve never met one that is the total package, until now. She is a superb listener, makes absolutely sure she understands and respects what I’m asking for, goes out of her way to ensure we’re all clear on where we’re going with my hair — and while she’s obviously very, very highly skilled in her craft; it’s immediately obvious that she is a very caring person that wants you to be pleased with her work.
It may only be my second cut with her, but I feel like I’ve been going to her for years and years now. I could go on and on, but it’s really just easier for me to say that she’s a phenomenal stylist; and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have met her.
She has my business for as long as she’ll have me. Thanks Joanne!

Joanne is a hair artist! I started going to her a year ago when my job prevented me from going to my hair stylist of 20 years. I have to credit my daughter and her friends for finding Joanne, I always knew that I would go to her if something happened with mine. Everyone is right about Joanne, she listens, she asks questions and she takes her time. She really cares that I am happy when I walk out the door.
She also keeps great notes so she always knows what she’s done to your hair in the past. She is pleasant to be around and conversation is always interesting. She made my transition easy and painless. My hair looks great, I get compliments all the time. I can’t imaging not having Joanne do my hair!

I have been looking for my «forever» stylist for three years since I moved to the east bay, and today was my first appointment with Joanne. First off, let me say that I was completely impressed by her listening skills. She asked me very pointed questions about what I wanted, and then told me what she was hearing and asked if she was understanding me correctly. She not only took into account my ideas of what I wanted, she expressed to me where I might have issues with my hair type and gave me ideas on how to get what I wanted while still working with what I have. Secondly, she kept priority on keeping my hair healthy as well and gave me tips on how to style it and keep it looking great. She didn’t pressure me to buy her products, she even told me which store bought brands would work best for me. I left feeling beautiful, capable of maintaining my style and finally feeling like I found a stylist that could really see me and hear me. Absolutely a great stylist and a great find.

I recently moved to Danville and found Joanne online. It is always nerve wrecking to go to someone without being referred from a friend, however I was immediately at ease. Joanne spends a good amount of time talking with the client and consulting with them, to really understand how they want to look! She is thorough and always does an excellent job! I love how she helps me to learn how to communicate with a hair stylist and I also love how she teaches me about new products and things that would be good for my hair! I absolutely recommend her!

After moving away from San Ramon, I still make the journey back to Joanne for my cut and color. She is professional, organized, friendly and most importantly always makes my hair look great. She always makes great suggestions for what fits my hair type best and she has always been right. She tries her best to accommodate my schedule as I am driving so far, but even if she can’t fit me in, she is definitely worth using a vacation day for!

Update: I got an e-​mail question asking why I no longer see Joanne as my stylist. The ONLY reason I don’t go to her anymore is because I live in Berkeley, and Danville is just a bit too far away to drive for hair services. (Plus, I totally respect that she isn’t open on the weekends, but it made commuting to Danville that much more challenging with rush hour!) But I love her and her work. I’d recommend her in a heartbeat!

Joanne has been cutting my hair for 4 years and I only cheat on her with another hairstylist if she’s not available and I can’t wait. Love how she knows my hair.

Joanne is seriously the best. I’ve been going to her for highlights and cuts for a little over 2 years now and I truly believe that I might have gone bald had my hair continued down the path it was on before her! My previous stylist insisted on ridiculous and damaging double process platinum blonde and REFUSED to cut my hair because he wanted it long. Joanne brought me back to reality and my hair is better than ever! She also forgives me when I accidentally let my highlights grow out for 6 months. It was just once!
She’s nice, funny, and reasonably priced (and an animal lover, just like me) and I recommend her to pretty much every friend who asks about my hair.
Also, the new space is super cute.

Joanne Costa is definitely the best hairstylist I have ever come across. I’ve been going to her for my hair for almost 3 years now because she is so knowledgable and experienced and she certainly knows what she’s doing. My hair can be difficult when it comes to products and things, and she knew exactly what to use and which brands and types of products that I should be using. Joanne is very up to date with hair trends, and she’s easy to talk with so we always have great conversations about what would look best, what I really want, and just about our lives in general. Not only is Joanne an excellent hairstylist, but she is also great company. I recommend her to anybody looking for a great hairdresser!

I have been going to Joanne for a few years now and she is great. I have very thin difficult hair and she knows just how to cut it so it lays right and doesn’t look limp. I am always excited to go and see what we will decide to do with my hair next. She is always honest with her opinion on my ideas and let’s me know thy just because I like Jennifer Anniston’s hair cut doesn’t mean it’ll work well for me. She really is the best stylist I’ve ever been to and the only person I trust touching my hair. I recommend everyone I know to go to her! She is awesome!

I went to Joanne for the first time a few weeks ago and she was great! I have super long, thick, straight hair that has only been colored once. She cut and colored my hair the very first time she met me and I LOVE it! The color is perfect, not too much, or too little. The cut has layers and is super easy to style and on top of that the whole process was relaxing! She is very smart and easy to talk to. Before I walked in I had one bad expirence after the other and now I look forward to getting my hair cut! Thanks Joanne!
