Best Western Plus Dana Point Inn-By-The-Sea

Room and location itself was nice. Right across the PCH from Doheny beach. At 245 in the morning our smoke alarm started beeping. We tried sleeping through it and called the desk a few times, no answer. Left a message, then went and banged on the door of the front desk. Finally got the manager to remove the alarm, after about an hour of lost sleep. The next day I asked for part of the room price comped because of our night. we were offered a late check out, and 20 dollars comped off the price, which about covered the room tax. This was a nice gesture, but didn’t come close to making up for the night, which I made clear to him. In addition to this, the sheets and pillows had a plasticky cover material, and the room did smell a little musty. Would not recommend.

I had a great time here. Very clean hotel, great view and super helpful staff. I can’t say thank you enough.

Bathroom was dirty… ick. The whole room smelled VERY musty and didn’t go away even after I opened the windows which only open a bit at the very bottom near the floor. And I could NOT sleep because of the top sheet; it was made of some weird plastic material which feels weird and makes you sweat all night. What the heck was that about? The location is good, right across from the beach but they need to upgrade the cleaning of their rooms and their linens.

My wife and I loved our stay here! Clean rooms, comfortable beds, right across the street from the ocean, and very friendly/​attentive staff. What more could you ask for?

Prefect view of sunset from my room. Walked to Dana Harbor for coffee — then back to hotel for waffles, eggs, sausage and more coffee !!! Would stay again !

Great Hotel! Right across from the water. Train tracks run between hotel and beach, so if you dont mind the noise. One thing I would improve would be the breakfast. Staff was great!

This is one of the only hotels that sets a standard along this row for their guest. SInce the area attracks partier types. This is one of the only hotels along PCH in Capo that won’t allow those people to ruin other peoples peace and quite! We appreciaite how well you keep your place up. Soon a trolly will pick you up right out in front and connect you to other areas in the City and over to Laguna!

I was not satisfied with this hotel. It seemed like everybody I saw outside was smoking I couldn’t enjoy the fresh air outside. The hotel AC wasn’t even working at night so I was suffocating! My waffle for breakfast turned out gross because there was hair in it! Urghhhh just horrible!

Very, very pleased with the friendly service. Room was great, too.

Breakfast not served until 730am so we had to skip it. No coffee in lobby before breakfast as in many hotels. Low walk score. There are two restaurants close by but you cannot walk to town. Otherwise a wonderful wonderful hotel. Big room. Good design, sweet beds and bath. Would stay again but bring my own coffee! It’s clear someone really cares for this plAce!

The parking here is an issue if you have a large vehicle, the eastern side of the garage has a yellow warning bar set lower than the warning bar at the entrance of the garage. My Yukon XL hit the warning bar and this scratched the roof leaving permanent damage. At night the garage gets so full that with a vehicle this size it is almost impossible to maneuver or even find a parking place.
The room was booked through Expedia for $ 269 add taxes and it is $ 301, for the money there are much better options. The rooms smell old and musty, in the bathroom there are ants crawling all over the bath tub. The patio furniture is old and weathered. The lights in the room have outlets to charge your device however if the light is not turned on your device will not charge. There are train tracks right in front of the building, at night you hear trains passing which shakes the building.
The only positive about this place is the view, it is set right across the street from the beach.

Nice, clean, cozy hotel. Fernando was so helpful and kind. A little hidden gem. Our room had a terrific ocean view which was awesome to wake up to each morning. Breakfast was delish! Our family will stay here again very soon.

Rooms were very clean, great location and the staff was very nice. The only reason they didn’t get a 5 was they like things a certain way and if you don’t know that going in there could be a problem

We had a room tucked away in the back so we didn’t get to see the ocean unless we went out to watch a sunset. It was a stunning view in the evenings as people lit bonfires on the beach. The view is interrupted by a train that goes by every hour or so, but it is a small commuter one that only has a few cars and isn’t an issue at all.
It was a very clean hotel and there was a cute Asian couple running the place. They were very sweet. We had a friend come by and we asked if he could leave his car underneath in the parking garage and they were VERY accommodating. The hotel wasn’t crowded, so I am sure that’s why it wasn’t a problem.
Our breakfast was fine, but the hot portion was scrambled eggs and brown and serve sausage links and they hadn’t taken the time to brown them.. . just heated them through, so they were more grey than brown. I opted for the waffles every day. Finally, we enjoyed the free Wi-​Fi and it had plenty of bandwidth for everything we needed!
I would stay here again because it was very clean and it felt more like a bed and breakfast. The employees were hardworking, kind, friendly and helpful.

We had an incredibly awful experience with this hotel. There are a few Best Westerns within a mile or two of each other so when booking for a wedding we accidentally chose this one. We spoke with Sam, the manager, hoping to pay a penalty and then book with the Best Western down the road where the rest of the wedding party was staying. He couldn’t have been less accommodating! We still wanted to stay at a Best Western, just not this one! He refused to do anything but charge us full price, whether we stayed there or not. Since this was DOUBLE the cost of the other location, we had no choice but to stay here. Once we arrived, we couldn’t believe what we were spending so much money on. The hotel itself is dilapidated and the «ocean view» consists of a highway, train tracks, a parking lot, A HIGH FENCE and then the actual beach. There is NO beach access. The room had high ceilings but a tiny bathroom and felt outdated. Their very small hot tub is fenced in with barely any room for more than 1 person to sit comfortably.
The morning of our departure, we received a call from the front desk demanding to know what kind of car we owned even though it wasn’t on the premises! After explaining this to him multiple times, he ended the call with «Well, check out is at 11 so you only have an hour left. You have to come see me before you leave.» I felt like I was being reprimanded by this person. Other reviewers have pointed out that management makes you feel as though you are a guest at their own home and therefore can treat you however they want. Unfortunately we had that experience as well.
A better priced, updated hotel with a polite staff is only a mile or two away. Save yourself the hassle and rude treatment by booking there.

Nice and very clean rooms. Staff was very helpful too. Room had a view of the beach/​ocean and had a small balcony. Fireplace in the room made it very cozy too.

The location is beautiful, right across from the beach (though separated by a highway)
The only problem is the people who run the place. it is family owned, but they treat this place as if you are a guest in THEIR house. I suppose they do own it with Best Western, but they are REALLY particular about what you do… Don’t park there, don’t do this, no make sure you clean it up like this, I have never seen any hotel chain do anything like that before
it makes me feel like I am not welcomed a bit.
It is not inexpensive, so it’s not like you get what you pay for .
They called me at 12am and told me to move my car because it wasn’t parked well enough. The parking spots are VERY small, and I have a big jeep. couldnt they have figured that out a bit earlier?

Won’t be coming back, wouldnt recommend it.

I am hesitant to post a Unilocal review because I dont want to give away this gem. Upon walking in, I was surprised how clean and comfortable this hotel is. Check-​in was fast and the front desk was extremely courteous. The room was huge and included a comfy bed and flat screen TV. The location is awesome and walking distance to the beach. The breakfast was yummy and and all included. A+ all the way. I would definitely recommend this place and plan on coming back soon.

You get what you pay for, so it was good room for reasonable price.
Bathroom is small, but room is very spacious.
Plus free wifi was surprisingly fast.

Treated horribly by clerk at front desk because I simply inquired about buying a coffee for a brother that was visiting. I was told to hurry up and leave in front of visiting family. Whoever was working March 18, in the morning showed a serious lack of common human integrity. Would never go here. I am a 45 year old teacher and have never been treated like a vagrant before. Do not go here!
