This has easily become my most visited restaurant in Dallas. The tortillas alone deserve 5 stars and everything else I’ve tried is delicious. It’s easily become my go-to restaurant for all occasions. Whether friends are in town or its Sunday afternoon, Tipico’s always hits the mark. I highly recommend trying the burritos de carne guisada con guacamole — so, so good!

This is definitely one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I have eaten at in all of DFW. Unassuming with no frills make it immediately inviting. My sister said that every time she drives by their parking lot it’s packed full which led us to try it in the first place. Clearly locals are in the know because the food is simply delicious. Minutes after being seated warm chips and two different kinds of salsa were brought to our table. One was cold and mild while the other was lukewarm with an addicting punch of heat. Refills are brought quickly so it’s hard to practice self control. They have some adventurous menu items like tripas(intestines) and lengua(tongue), but also the traditional favorites everyone loves such as quesadillas, enchiladas, and burritos. My sisters boyfriend had the tripas and said it was great, while she ordered the carne guisada which is a slow roasted Mexican beef stew with large tender chunks of meat and onions. I kept it simple with cheese enchiladas and they were so flavorful! I felt like someone’s abuela was in the kitchen because it sure tasted that way. As we were checking out at the register, one of the owners told us that many of their recipes have been passed down for generations within their family. I absolutely love that. What makes it even better is how inexpensive it is. My giant plate was under $ 7AFTER tax! You cannot beat that kind of quality for such cheap prices. This hole in the wall is a true gem and I’m so glad my sister had the idea to check it out. I will be returning soon with my husband because I know he is going to go crazy for it too.

I only discovered this place a couple of years ago when I started working a couple of miles away, but I’ve definitely made up for lost time, as it’s made a meteoric rise up to the very top of my list of Tex-Mex joints in Dallas. It’s on a stretch of N.W. Highway near Bachman Lake that was once upon a time a really nice restaurant row. After a couple of decades as a rather seedy string of strip joints, it’s now morphed into a 2-mile run of Mexican restaurants and retail. Each meal starts with a bowl of chips and 2 kinds of salsa, one of which will light you up if you’re not prepared. Décor is very unassuming, looks like it was probably a sit-down Pizza Hut in a previous incarnation. You seat yourself, then afterward, go to the register and tell them your table number when you’re ready to pay. And be ready for sticker shock(the good kind) — you’ll probably wonder if they left one of the entrees off the bill. I’ve tried at least a dozen things on the menu, and they’ve all been incredible, from the plump chicken and beef enchiladas slathered in generous amounts of sour cream sauce and chili, to the tacos al carbon and chicken tacos, both served in homemade tortillas. The pork guiso was a little fatty the one time I had it, but the flavor was out of this world. All of the pollo is obviously cooked in-house and shredded, nothing like the processed«fajita strips» you find in a lot of chain restaurants. You’ll need several napkins when you eat the chicken tacos, because they are quite juicy. As somebody has mentioned already, the beans are probably the best I’ve ever had — the«secret ingredient» is bacon. Sweet, heavenly, bacon. Or bacon grease, if you want to get technical. So very decadent, and so very irresistible. I’m not sure if this should be mentioned publicly, but during one of our first lunch visits, my buddy and I actually high-fived each other across the table after we tried those beans. They’re that good. The caldos are giant and chock full of pretty much everything. I haven’t tried the menudo, but I’ve heard good things. As for service, it can admittedly be a little spotty. Ironically, it seems the busier they are, they more attentive. Maybe the servers play down to the level of competition? During my last visit, on a slow Tuesday evening, I couldn’t seem to get a chip or tea refill to save my life. I hope someday they open one of these in E. Dallas(there’s another in Carrollton), so I can work it into my rotation a little more often. Every time I go, I can’t help but wonder why in the name of all that is good and holy are people waiting for an hour to get a table down the street at Pappasito’s, when they could be here? Seriously, this place is twice as good and less than half the price.

I normally enjoy the food at this place. This was a recent find for me but on my second time picking up some breakfast takeout I received an unexpected surprise. There was a roach in the salad given to me on my gorditas styrofoam plate. Gross!!! What a shame. I was truly liking the place. The roach was alive. Never going back because they need some serious pest control treatments!

My tacos had a good flavor. Service wasn’t great — didn’t get a refill on drinks. It was a busy place and parking sucked.

Not the greatest mexican food. Not authentic Mexican food but the décor of the restaurant is. The food is more like tex-mex. The appetizer chips were very greasy. My husband ordered a guiso; it was pretty good but not spicy(TEXMEX) and came with homemade tortillas but they weren’t the greatest. I ordered chicken enchiladas not what I expected(ALLTEXMEX) nothing but melted yellow and white cheese all over the tortillas. Luckily I also ordered gorditas and those were bombing… I usually order picadillo gorditas at other places and they suck but this place was on point with them and this is the only pro I have about this place. See you for the next gorditas Tipico’s ;)

I had dinner here two nights ago with my family. My mother, a Mexican food fanatic from Washington, DC, and my grandparents who spend most of their time eating at fine dining establishments. We needed a place to grab a quick bite to eat(had to be Mexican of course!) near the airport so that my mom could catch her flight home. This place is amazing! It is so tasty. I ordered barbacoa tacos and a round of beef nachos for the table. Perfect! Everyone else ordered their own dishes. Needless to say, we devoured everything; even the beans and rice, which usually get pushed around the plate until everyone is ready to leave. Five clean plates amongst four people(and a few empty bowls of amazing tortilla chips) later, we left fat and happy. And after tip… FORTY-FOURDOLLARS! WHAT?! That just is not supposed to happen! I would have gladly paid twice that for the quality of the food and the service. I will be back, and I will bring a crowd!

Absolutely love this restaurant! In my view it is one of the most authentic restaurants for Mexican food. It is pretty cheap as well. The people of this restaurant are so friendly. I was introduced with this restaurant by a native person. As for the food itself, I got the chicken tacos with corn tortillas and they were very flavorful and soooo good!!! I guess the highlight of the meal was«queso». The owner of the restaurant warned us that if we ordered queso we shouldn’t expect the Tex-Mex white cheese dip with it. Anyway we ordered it and it was really a good decision. It was a plate full of sauce covered lightly baked white cheese strips. There were small corn tortillas on the side too. The meal was so delicious and I have been craving it ever since that day. Next time I might even get it as my meal! The restaurant was cute. There was nothing special inside but no complaints as well. I always remember this place for an cheap and satisfying meal! I will definitely get back to this restaurant.

I first went to this restaurant a year ago when I was in Dallas on business. I was introduced by a Dallas native and enjoyed the food a lot. I forgot what I ordered a year ago when I sat down today for lunch only because my friend and colleague(who was with me last year) ordered something that made me want to order it if there was a day I would come back. That day was today. I got the chicken mole with corn tortillas. Fantastic and made me regret that i didn’t get this a year ago. Top it with Mexican Coke and it was the perfect lunch. Service is friendly, fast and efficient. The complimentary tortilla chips are crispy and fresh and our server was more than happy to replenish our bowl as we ravaged those chips. Definitely not prepackaged! In fact when Tostitos sells us «restaurant style» chips that is always going to be a lie until they taste like the ones that are given to you at Tipicos along with a variety of salsas. I can’t comment on the décor because I was so involved with my food that I couldn’t care how the interior décor looks. And you won’t have to care because as long as there is a table with chairs where I can sit down and eat, that is all I need. The price is more than reasonable. All in all, if I am back in Dallas, I will definitely be back.

Décor: 4⁄5 –Booth and table dining –Don’t expect anything nice or fancy Service: 4⁄5 –Service was quick, we were seated and out the door in less than 20 minutes Food: 4⁄5 –I tried four tacos @ $ 2.50 each: Tripas, Carbon, Lengua and Fajitas on corn tortilla. –Tripas had a slight oily yet crunchy taste and texture. –Carbon steak was well seasoned and good flavor but a bit dry –Lengua was the most tender and reminded me of ox tail –Fajitas were a tad bit well done and a bit tough and chewy however overall taste was good

Dive Tex-Mex restaurant located at the north end of Love Field airport. Service was great. Chips were good but fairly greasy. Food was excellent. I had tacos al carbon. Flour tacos were obviously made from scratch, steak was seasoned to perfection. So why only 3 stars? I really give it 3.5. Knock off ½ star for greasy chips, half star for loud noise level, and half star due to a lot of flies in the restaurant. Just the food though? 5 stars. Would I go back? Sure.

When I was trying to find a place for a bunch of my old coworkers and I to meet up, I knew it needed to be somewhere in the middle — and tasty! Unilocal to the rescue! I mapped everyone out, found the reasonable middle, and then did a map search for the area, and what do you know? Tipico’s popped up as a Unilocal favorite! No wonder it is. It is the best kind of hole-in-the-wall dive, with a tiny parking lot(good luck getting a spot!) in an area of town you’d otherwise have no idea where to stop. The inside is rather small, just go in and grab a table and start flipping through the menu. A waiter/waitress will come by to get your drink order and then let you keep perusing the menu. We snacked on chips(tasty) and my coworkers had salsa(they all said it was hot!) and then we ordered. I got the #17 sour cream enchiladas, and while those were tasty(and HUGE portions for the price) I have to repeat another reviewer who said the refried beans were AMAZING. I have no idea what magical blend of spices they have going on, but they were delicioso! The rice is alright, pretty standard tex-mex rice. I did like their sour cream sauce, and the didn’t skimp on the chicken or the cheese on the inside which left me with a pair of huge, yummy enchiladas to devour. I made it through one, even though I wanted to keep going. The refried beans? They didn’t stand a chance. I would have licked the plate if I wasn’t around professional peers! At the end of the meal we were all stuffed and most of us had to-go boxes, which speaks to the portion sizes. Take note of your table number and head to the register, they’ll pull your ticket and have you pay out based on what you ordered. Everyone was friendly here, the food was good, and it was a great location for what we needed! Had the rice been more awesome(or if their queso wasn’t from a squeeze tube) I’d definitely give them 5 stars!

This is so good. The rice has jasmine taste to it. It tastes authentic Mexican food. And the refried beans are good. And chicken enchiladas are good as well. I’ve had better ones, this one is great for a first time. The place had a cozy atmosphere.

Decent food, reasonable prices, large portions. I’ve eaten here a couple of times, tried a few things, and it’s generally pretty good. It’s just standard, hearty Mexican food.

Always a Home Run!!! They make all their food from scratch… The flour tortillas are Legit as well as the chips and salsa. I’ve tried most of the menu so far from the Menudo to Quesadilla. All entrees have earned 5 Stars… Yes, even the Menudo, which is served daily(hard to find during the week). I highly recommend this place and try #38 if it’s your first time.

Pros. Looks authentic in décor Great prices Cons. Tiny potion of guac compared to other potions The tacos are not authentic — based on my years in Arizona and California by the border this was more Tex Mex than pure Mexican Carnitas were fried. They are usually stewed and moist and lighter in taste. Minor but they had no Mango Jaritos which is usually quite popular.

I don’t typically go on about refried beans. But these were the best refrieds I have ever had, I can’t explain it but they were just so darn good. We were the only gringos in the place, on a Friday night. A good sign! I ordered quesadillas and hubby ordered tacos al carbon, a favorite of ours. The quesadillas were over stuffed with cheese and chicken. Not a skinny little dilla like you usually see. These were easily an inch tall. Bacon and beef quesadillas also are on the menu which I will surely try on my next visit. I asked for some jalapenos, and was brought plenty for three people. Typically I get a small bowl that seems to NEVER be enough, right? Not here. Our waitress saw to it we had a pleasureable meal. Hubby had three tacos al carbon on his plate, along with rice and beans. Again… dem beans!!! The tacos were outstanding. The homemade tortillas were crispy for my dillas, and perfect for his tacos. Nothing was greasy. The guacamole was very good. Got two salsas with our chips. One cold and one hot. Both good, very fresh. The chips are thick, and can hold a lot. The prices are exceptional and the food is good, the place is clean and I liked the music. It wasn’t too loud but could hear it clearly. We thoroughly enjoyed this place, and we WILL be back.
