Painting with a Twist

I absolutely adore Painting with a Twist! I have had the pleasure of painting at Painting with a Twist on several occasions, and it has always been completely enjoyable and relaxing. And best of all, you don’t even have to be a good artist. In fact, you can even be a terrible artist and still have an amazing time! The painting instructor will take you through the painting process step by step, with plenty of breaks in between to sip wine and eat snacks. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can totally choose different colors or a different background than everyone else or throw in a few unique creative elements of your own! Painting with a Twist is the perfect date night, and also the perfect birthday party. I have done both. I will definitely be returning to Painting with a Twist!

Save your money for paint your pet. They had to many people that not everyone got the help needed. It became 10 pm on a week night and still had not gotten the one on one help of others. So I have in. Cindy ignores people asking for help and the guy is very unhelpful … I should have taken the money and paid and artist to do it. Others who received help turned out beautiful … Will not recommend or come back

I had a lot of fun here. I came with my family and none of us are artists but the instructors did a great job explaining everything and it was a lot of fun. They were very engaging and helpful.

7.18.2015 — we had my husbands birthday gathering here with Andrea D. — our abstract Dallas skyline class was too much fun! Andrea was a delight and a huge help to those of us who are «artistically challenged»… treat yourself — you will be very glad you did! We will be back real soon!

Last night, we hosted a Bachelorette Party at this location. The staff was very helpful and our artist, Kipp was super fun. My art turned out a little better than my skill level, but the fun level was off the charts!
I am concerned that this may be addicting. Already planning my next trip.

I’m not a huge fan of paying to do things I’m not good at… so I was a little leery about going for my first time. I’ve just never been able to draw let alone paint like I wanted to.
The night turned out to be great fun though and I was pleasantly surprised. Danna did a great job teaching the class and making us comfortable. Or maybe that was our drinks kicking in… lol. No seriously the class was great.
I’m not Picasso or anything but my painting turned out pretty decent and I got a lot of likes on Facebook and Instagram. Some of my friends were even saying they wanted the picture so maybe I’ll go back and try some other things.

We had a blast tonight! Victoria rocks. She kept us entertained and kept the mood lively. There was a great playlist in the background, mostly music from the 90s that everyone knows the words to.
My paint came out only so-​so, but it’s really about the environment. Victoria and Kip put a lot of effort in making sure we all had a good time and left with a paiting that looked at least somewhat like the one on display.
My only suggestions would be for some kind of refrigerator to keep the wine chilled during class and more hair dryers to dry the paintings.
All in all, I could come back here every night.

My friend & I did «paint your pet day»! This was my very first painting class and I have to say it was fantastic! Our instructors Kipp & Cindy were excellent!!! They were Extremely patient with you and continually came around to help the class. When you paint your pet they will go ahead and sketch A picture of your pet from a photograph you submit. You are also given enough brushes paint and an apron. it is BYOB and bring some snacks if you like as well. Very therapeutic I’d recommend it to anyone.

Definitely a cool date night spot. The instructors are very friendly and entertaining. I’d say that it’s something you can do once in a while if you want something different and makes you feel like you can actually creating art. The class was full on a rainy Saturday evening and they have a private room in the back for private parties, which are usually a birthday group. Definitely bring some beverages and snacks of your choice to nosh on while you’re painting. They give you time to stretch your legs as the session we had was a 3 hour one.
Go in with an open mind and have fun. Don’t take yourself too seriously with your drawing.

You will come out of this place feeling like Picasso! I don’t have even one artistic bone in my body when it comes to painting but my friend got this for me as a birthday present so we headed over to give it a whirl. You can bring food and drinks… byob. They take you through it step by step as you paint (and drink) and it is seriously so much fun. You will be amazed when you are done at how well your painting turned out. My husband insisted we hang mine up because he thought it was so good. The instructor was great, the location is nice and central and it was such a fun night. Parking is tricky so keep that in mind. I’ll definitely go back if I get the chance.

Had a great fun time painting what first looked like a complicated task. Easy walk through steps and a great way to spend valentines for sure. Worth it. At the end of the day we carried wt us something we’ ll treasure fr a long time.

I had a blast! Parking is tricky, but the whole experience was fantastic. We had a private room for our group, and Ryan did a fantastic job of walking us through everything. They have a table set up for our wine and drinks and food, and they provide cups and napkins. I’m no artist, but we had a fun time attempting to paint a beautiful Bluebonnet sunset. Very Texas-​appropriate!

Just starting the class, but the artwork is amazing. I do this type of class about one a month and I have high expectations because the artwork is phenomenal. Nice spot because your can get dinner, cocktail, etc. Before your come and just relax while you paint in the class.

Last night is probably one of the most fun nights I’ve had in a good long while! I came home to visit my parents and thought this would be a fun night to spend out with one of my lifelong best friends. We arrived shortly before the 6pm start time. A little thrown off by the parking situation at first however we were then kindly helped by the complimentary valet attendant! Valet! It was like we were in Vegas! We walked up to the studio where the room was filled with about 40 adults painting. We were welcomed in and showed back to a smaller room which smelled amazing like a candle was burning! We met the super friendly and totally outgoing Cindy C who was to be our instructor for the night. Turns out it was only gonna be 4 of us in the painting class. Cindy helped us get the wine flowing and gave us a few extra items we’d forgotten to bring (plastic knife for cheese, etc). Two other ladies showed up and we all just had a super fun night chatting, drinking, and trying to recreate Monet’s water Lillie’s painting. By the end we all had something completely different and totally amazing in its own way. I can’t say enough good things about Cindy C. She was warm and fun, encouraging & helpful we had a blast and this may become a tradition every time I come back to visit home. Drinking & creativity just like the impressionists themselves!

There are several places popping up that’s like this place. Therefore, I try to shop around, and I find this place to be very expensive. I bought this for my friend’s birthday and it was $ 90 for 2. Kind of expensive. If the experience was worth it, then sure. But the classes consists of too many people. It felt like everyone was so close together, and it’s something to do with family, friends and couples so there were so many conversations and I couldn’t hear what the instructor was saying.
So basically, I paid $ 90 for the paint, and the canvas, and 2 spots in that crowded room to paint. I’m only sounding bitter because I’ve been to another place that’s cheaper, and better.
I would rather use $ 40 to buy my own paint and canvas. Actually, after this experience, I went to Michael’s and spent less than $ 40 for my own stuff.

I absolutely love this idea! I’m not too artsy, but I’ve been here twice now & have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. Bring your friends and watch your master pieces unfold as the teacher guide you through your own piece of art! I’d suggest bringing a bottle of wine & snacks to add to the fun. Special props to E-​Jay as he’s always offering his input/​help if you ask!

Here is how it works:
Painting With A Twist (PWAT — almost sounds like a bad word — LOL) requires you make a paid reservation for you or your group in advance via their website or over the phone. You can see which paintings are scheduled in advance by checking out their website. Take your favorite wine and food/​snacks. You are paying for the canvas, the paint, use of aprons and painting tools, and instruction. To improve your experience, PWAT provides cork screw wine bottle openers, plastic cups, napkins, and tables.
My experience:
My gal pal group and I had so much fun here! I organized a Galentine’s Day similar to that of Parks and Recreation character Leslie Knope’s fictional holiday around Valentine’s Day (Because I’m goofy like that :-P). Five of us made our separate reservations online. Make sure at least one of you send an email notifying PWAT of who will be seated next to each other. Your names will be written at your seating spot on the butcher paper spread on the tables. There was a table nearby us where we set up pita bread, pita chips, yogurt dip, hummus, and a chocolate covered marshmallow and chocolate covered oreo bouquet made by muah! We got there a tad early to set up, grab a drink, pour colors that weren’t on our paper plates (because none of us wanted to paint a pink peacock), and hang out. We then were instructed to sketch the head/​neck/​body of the peacock on our canvas — FREE HAND!!! We were all worried as we are not much of artists. We were then walked through the painting by one of the instructors as we sipped and noshed on our treats. It was a bit rushed, but we only had 2 hours to complete our fun work of art. I took pics of everyone intermittently and at the end. We all had good outcomes which we took home! Phew! And I’m proud my Galentine’s Day treats were enjoyed by my gal pals. I will definitely go back. The room was filled with about 40 women and 2 men who were there on dates with their ladies.
When to go:
Go have fun for a girl’s night out, a birthday party/​other low-​key celebrations, or a DATE!
Private Party?
If you want to make a private party, you need 8 – 12 people, one credit card, and you get to choose which painting you want to paint! Sounds like a fun birthday get together or shower to me!
Price:
$ 30 — for a 2 hour painting session
$ 45 — for a 3 hour painting session
Parking:
Not the best. There are a couple spots up front, a couple next to Rex’s Seafood, or you can park at the bank if the bank is closed. Valet is complimentary for Rex’s Seafood ONLY.

I can’t believe it took me so long to check out Painting with a Twist. This is such a fun place and a breath of fresh air from my usual scene (parked on a patio with a cold brew and some queso — not that I won’t be back in the saddle tonight).
We actually bought a $ 20 groupon for Painting with a Twist in April 2010 (over a year ago), and it had expired. We called in and the manager said it was no problem, they would just discount the painting we chose by $ 20. Customer service points +1.
The studio is BYOB and food, which is great since most classes run either 7 – 9 or 7−10pm, plus it makes it a fun little night out. Plus if your painting is anything like mine, a glass of wine might help it look a little better!
Just kidding, the instructors are great and the paintings turn out SO much better than you would imagine, even if you are a first timer like me.
What the wine might actually help with is if you arrogantly venture out to Painting with a Twist against a severe weather warning because «Oh my gosh, stop worrying, It’ll be FINE» (sorry group, I won’t be so blasé next time!) and then you spend half the class listening to the weather on the radio, neurotically worrying about your car being pelted by golf ball sized hail, and taking a break to move to the back room because the tornado sirens are going off. However, the ladies running our class were fabulous and told us if we did want to leave, they would either hold a make up class or give us a voucher for a free class. Customer service points +2.
We roughed it out and ended up finishing on time since the little «break» worked out well with the originally scheduled break to let our base paint dry.
We went to the scheduled group class, but you can also arrange private parties (minimum 10 people) for no extra charge other than the painting itself, which you get to pick from their catalog. You can book the studio on an open night or the back room if there is a party in the front. No extra charge? Customer service points +3.
Overall, a great time, and I will definitely be back!

One of my friends booked her bachelorette party here a few Sunday’s ago. There were about 15 of us so we had the place to ourselves. My friends brought in wine, sangria and some snacks, so yeah drunk painting!
We were there for about an hour before we started painting, and that was the only complaint I had. That was too much down time, we were ready to start!
It cost $ 45, which we had all paid online before we arrived. We were given an apron, a canvas, and all the painting stuff. My friend picked out ae tree design that we all did. We had Arnaldo as our teacher, and he was so adorable and spunky. He walked us through each step of the painting, but we were pretty much free to do the painting how we wanted to. My problem was there was too much lag time between steps so I kept re-​working my painting, and ended up making it a bigger mess than it should have been. Oh well. It was still a ton of fun, and I would love to do this again!!!

After seeing all my friends back home in Louisiana with their cute paintings they made, I was so excited to learn that we had our own Painting with a Twist here in Dallas. I bought a groupon when the email came around, and couldn’t wait to plan a fun girls’ day. It occurred to me that it would be great fun to do this for my birthday, so I got a bunch of girls together and planned it for a Sunday afternoon.
I went on the website and could see what painting was on which day, and it was very hard to decide when to go, they all looked so cool! I finally chose the date and called to make the reservation. The lady I spoke with could not have been more friendly, excited to hear that I wanted to have a birthday party there, and telling me that not only is it BYOB, but we could also come in early and have cake, brunch, etc — anything we wanted to bring — and she would have ice, utensils, etc on hand.
We opted for brunch at Breadwinners beforehand just to make it easier, but my sweet girlfriends still brought TONS of snacks and fun stuff for the party — we showed up with at least a case of wine and champagne, 2 dozen cupcakes, and more cheese, crackers and fruit than 10 girls really could ever need :)
Instead of thinking we were crazy and taking up all the room (they had a little table behind our special table set up for us), they were more than accommodating, helping us open the wine and even icing it all down for us once we ditched the set up effort and started painting.
They had a guest speaker from a local charity which was receiving a portion of the profits from that days’ fees. Everyone was super friendly and warm, and the other people in the class were just as fun and nice, all telling me happy birthday and taking pictures for us.
The instruction is great, I literally can not draw a stick man and I made a wonderful (beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right???) painting that I can’t wait to hang on my wall! They give you enough instruction to help you, but not to be intimidating. You are welcome to do your own thing, and in fact several of my friends did, as you can see from the picture that I will post :)
It’s fun, something different and definitely something that we will do again — we already picked out some of the paintings on the wall that we want to do, and found out that if you have 8 or more people you can choose what subject you want to paint. Great idea for bdays, girls’ night out, or even for couples — we hope to go back and talk some of the guys into coming with us!
Wearing a smock and painting while drinking, how could that not be fun! Two brightly colored thumbs up! And a Picasso ear! :)
