Service was so slow — took an hour to get our food and then one of dishes was cold and the other undercooked. They are still new, so would try again in a few months except I found it Overpriced. Also, Much too loud even for a Dallas restaurant!

Great neighborhood seafood market /restaurant. Our service was excellent and the fish perfectly cooked. I had the Kale Salad with grilled salmon and wasn’t disappointed. Wife had red snapper which was flavorful. The cheesy grits are awesome as well.

The new location on Mockingbird and Abrams is even better than the original, better patio, better bar, and much more parking same great seafood and restaurant. The seafood is the best in town — better than Central Market. And the food is outstanding — particularly if you order one of the specials. Bravo Rex, the new king of Dallas seafood shops.

Here is why this place gets 1 star. It directly contributes to a Dallas centric problem. I lived in Dallas for 2 years before moving back to Florida. During those 2 years I probably went to Rex’s seafood about a half dozen times. The food was decent, certainly nothing special compared to what you can get in Florida in this area of cuisine but this gets a pass from me as the area is far from any significant body of salt water so its all understandable. Prices are even understandable because of this geographical reason. That being said… Dallas has its faults, you can pick on the crappy roads, the lack of any topography, the slew of tax evasion centers… sorry I meant mega churches etc. but there is one thing which not only puzzles but just makes anyone rage, except maybe for people who spent their whole lives in this area and are completely clueless about the outside world, is valet parking. Thats right I said it. Valet. I can MAYBE excuse valet parking in the strict CBD at the Hyatt where the lack of space(this really is not even a problem in Dallas as the whole downtown area dies out after 5pm anyways) but what is the need for it in a place far far away from the downtown area? This place blocks off a whole parking lot in a suburban type setting and forces this crap that does nothing except make people fork out their wallets and give tips to people who park a car literally 10ft away in a parking space that Stevie Wonder could park a Peterbilt in with ease. I hate blatant ripoffs, it would be better to put in a bathroom attendant and tip him/her $ 2 for some scope to get rid of the fish breath than this amateur racketeering operation that goes on before you even enter through the doors. Fact is, each place controls this directly and does nothing about it. I see other reviews mentioning valet and that people dont care for it so obviously this isnt some weird one off observation. To be fair once more this isnt the only place that continues this practice in Dallas but it is an extreme where the whole lot is blocked off in the MIDDLE of the DAY. Ask yourself what this is for? To maintain exclusivity? This is a restaurant in Dallas, let me break this down for everyone what that means. You are not in a world class city, you will never be in a world class city, at best in a fast growing 2nd level city that just happens to be in area with a lot of stuck up people(again, not sure why, you live in Dallas which pretty much offers nothing exclusive on a global scale). Lovers Ln isn’t Manhattan, South Beach, Downtown Chicago or somewhere within the Circle Line in London. One knows this because theres people walking around in cowboy boots like its the 1870s. Valid outfit if the circus is in town or you live outside of Amarillo where there is genuine need. Not valid if you live in the year 2015 in a metro area this side of 5 million people.

I ordered from the specials on the blackboard on the back wall: Flounder was simply prepared and absolutely perfect. My sides were the red lentils(beautiful broth) and the cheesy grits(cheesy creamy deliciousness). I did not care for the fact that you have to valet to park here: next time I might park elsewhere and walk over.

I ordered the crab cake and did not see any crab. It was all breading. I’m used to eating crab cakes at TJ’s where it is mostly crab! Also, I’m big on atmosphere and the new location is not charming like the one on Lovers/Inwood.

I think we can stop reviewing this place. Their seafood is epic and so is the service. The only complaint might be that they are busy and last I checked that is a good thing! It just doesn’t get any fresher that coming from a seafood market a few feet from your table. Can I get an AMEN! Keep up the good work Rex’s Seafood :)

My boyfriend and I randomly came in for a light meal. We didn’t know how fancy it got around night time. The pictures online made it look really casual. In any case, we felt a little under dressed but stayed in and tried it. We both had the lobster bisque which was AMAZING! Smooth. Delicious. Flavorful. The kind of thing you wanna hook up via IV. My boyfriend has the Caesar salad with jumbo shrimp. He said it was decent but nothing amazing. I had the steamed mussels and clams which were in-freaking-credible. The broth and bread served with it were spectacular. That dish is the reason I’ll be returning. To top it off complimentary valet and excellent service. I would most definitely return for a special occasion.

I had lunch here recently. We were the first ones there when they opened and were seated quickly. The place filled up quickly. Our waitress forgot to tell us about their daily special until after we’d already ordered our food. It was pointless when she finally did. I started with their crab cakes appetizer. They were small and dry. More filling than crab meat. I then had their grilled shrimp for my entrée which came with two sides. The shrimps were of decent size buy over cooked rendering them chewy. One of my sides was the fried zucchini which was really good. I also had sautéed spinach and that was nothing special. Overall ok experience.

Valet was not up and running until 6PM which I was totally OK with because I failed to bring cash with me for tip! The entrance felt a bit awkward; we came in expecting to dine in but upon entering it was as though we were in line to purchase from the market? We were greeted with a warm smile but there was a hesitation when asked if we would be ordering to go or dining in. We immediately said we would dine in but we were not directed to the dining area with menus. I had to ask if we could sit anywhere and the specialties on the board were all the way around the other back wall that could not be seen from the entrance. After the awkward walk to the dining area our server came up immediately and made some suggestions which we ended up going with. The lobster roll was the best I had ever had. The sauce that the lobster roll was drenched In had amazing flavors and it was served over and amazingly soft and warm bread. The cheesy grits were oh so creamy and cheesy! The Chilean Seabass had a bit of a crisp on the top which made for a nice texture. The key lime pie was very creamy and had just a bit of a punch to it. Not the best in Dallas but certainly delicious. The bread pudding was good yet average but was nicely topped off with Henry’s ice cream.

My wife and I went to this place since it was highly reviewed. We had a cup of gumbo($ 7), which was decent. I had a seafood past($ 28) and she had the sea bass($ 34). Stuff is a bit overpriced but still not too bad for a night out. After tip and tax, we came out to about $ 85. I looked on my credit card bill, and the jerks cheated me and added extra tip and charged me $ 99.96. I don’t care how good or bad the food is. It is quite unethical to charge extra tip. The guy didn’t even come back to refill my water and we still tipped 15+%… I do have the itemized receipt so if the owner wants to contact me, he can do that…

This has got to get five stars though it is a storefront with no tablecloths… service was excellent, Mac & cheese is better than my own, stuffed baked tater was great and my King Crab was cooked to perfection. Shout out to Joe — and Blake — my servers — both of whom were very friendly and spot on with their recommendations. Highly recommended!

I’m in love. This place is exactly what I’ve been looking for in the Dallas area. It reminds me so much of the San Diego restaurants that I miss.(Specifically Fish 101 in Encinitas). Cute little restaurants nestled into vibrant neighborhoods with a strong customer base, historical significance, excellent food, attentive servers, and an unassuming atmosphere. First, Big praises to the waitstaff. Our server was my ideal. He was on point for the entire experience offering suggestions, creative alternatives and he was knowledgable about the menu. Imagine that! Someone that truly understands the menu and what the chef can do with it. I ordered the mixed seafood bowl. I adore mussels, clams, and well any seafood. I’ve had a wide range over the years and these mussels were perfect. They were large and the broth was delicious. Some of the riskier restaurants are really going in directions with broth and marinaras that can be truly frightening. This was a garlic, onion, butter, white wine sauce. Perfect. Our server suggested adding crab fingers and scallops. Loved it. I’m new to crab fingers and now a huge fan. Perfect for dipping and dredging. He also suggested Piri Piri for a spicy kick. Loved that too. My husband ordered the trout with horseradish aioli. Wow. I haven’t had anything quite like that. I’m not much for yammering on about side items, but their sides are delicious and worth mentioning. The steamed spinach is not what you would imagine. It’s al dente with olive oil, lemon, and parmesan. I could have just eaten a plate of that. My boy’s ordered fish and chips. They’ve had them all over the U.S. and all over the world for that matter. Let’s just say that the plates were clean. Enough said. We will definitely be repeat customers. I encourage anyone to open a dialogue with the waiter about off menu items and they are very willing to accommodate. The wine menu is fun as well. We enjoyed a really nice wine from the«inferno» region of Italy and it was a great choice. Can’t wait to go back!(oh…and they have wifi with password on the chalkboard so you don’t even have to have the wifi conversation.)

Food — 5 Service — 5 Value — 4 We came here to celebrate my birthday tonight and we’re glad we chose to come here. The service was great and the waiter made some great recommendations. We started off with the Steamers(clams and mussels) and then got the Tazmanian Trout with Scallop(which is actually from the salmon family) and the Flounder with lump crabmeat as our entrees. APPETIZER: The clams and mussels that came with the steamer were fresh and the bread and sauce were quite good and filled us up more than we thought it would. ENTREES: The waiter said the Tasmanian Trout was his personal favorite and described it as a more tender, tastier salmon. And he recommended a Flounder that was pistachio-encrusted(the pistachio-encrusted option was not on the specials board). He was spot-on with his recommendations and we thoroughly enjoyed both. SIDES: As for the sides, the sauteed spinach was good and slightly undercooked but I preferred it that way and the truffle oil risotto was great too. I also really liked an off-the-menu item side as well — Cajun Riceballs which was a mixture of cajun rice and some crawfish and spices fried into a little ball. The only side I thought was just«ok» was the green beans. We’ll definitely be back and are looking forward to coming on a Friday at some point to try the lobster roll.

This is a seafood market and restaurant in one. You can come in and order your fish to go or you can dine out and have them make you your meal. I have had their Atlantic Salmon with raspberry chipotle sauce, which was so good, and very moist. I also have ordered their jumbo shrimp, which were delicious and pretty large sized shrimps. I like the fact the fish is fresh and they do not have a weird seafood smell.

Always go out with the staff after closing. Ha. Start with a glass of wine, great selection. Let your husband tell you what he wants, ignore and proceed to to delight yourself. I mean as women you have to do that any way. Teach. Start with the kale whatever salad. Add protein, bc why, yep it makes you sexy and shell fish rocks a thyroid. Natural people. Always eat your veggies, while sipping vino. The baked avocado I would turn tricks for. Nom nom nom. Let’s face it my ethnic side will rhinoceros through a plate of protein and avocado, any combination, anywhere, anytime. We ordered some other entrees but I was busy planning on extra curricular activities and had several glasses of wine so unreliable was the theme. Casual joint, easy sitting. Valet parking.

I didn’t eat here but I purchased seafood from their market for a homemade Valentines dinner and was a little disappointed. All of the seafood and oysters were SO expensive. The crab cakes we took home and sautéed were pretty fantastic and the service was excellent so those two reasons make me want to give them another try and let their chefs prepare our meal. I just wish there were more affordable fish markets in the DFW area. Either way I will go back because this place seemed super clean and the service was fantastic!

Um, ‘scuse me… how have I never been here? And where has Rex been my whole life? Rude. Ya’ll. This place is the perfect combination of down home seafood grub and fine dining. If that makes any sense… Totally casual place and definitely laid back. In the front they have their market: fresh fish, oysters, mussels… etc. They also have broths, schmears, & dips! I mean *head explosions*. It’s all very nice. Have your meal then do some shopping. The guys behind the counter are great too, we saw this Wahoo fish and asked the best way to cook it and he gave us some great tips! We went for lunch one Saturday afternoon, around 1:30pm and it was still packed. They have a huge chalkboard at the back of the restaurant with current specials, fresh fishies and just everything you could image. MP and I decided to split stuff. We got the crabcake sandwich with cheesy grits and the the Trout Almondine with veggies. Ya’ll. Yes. Just yes. The crabcake sandwich was out of this world and those grits, dang good! The trout was perfectly cooked, flaky, fresh and delicious. We got some cool beers to accompany us on our adventure and it was one of the best Saturdays of my life. Not only are there about 1,000 options to review, but you won’t be disappointed with whatever you choose. I wanted to get some fresh oysters to start, but I needed to cut back on my food intake(lame, I know). Can’t wait to go back for dinner or lunch, or a midnight snack. Hey Rex, open late! Fish forevs.
