«This place has wonderful fish tacos,» my friend vigilantly sales pitched me,“it’s from Hawaii and each fish is labeled with the fisherman that caught it, so it’s all local.“ Sounded good. «We’re gonna eat on surf boards!» He piped in a commercially coated delight. I was a bit amiss when we walked into a cavernous new fast food dining room, with a wall of glossy photographs depicting vague Hawaiian landscapes, loud lime green metal chairs, a few tables only shaped in a surf board suggestive shape, and no fish counter with aforementioned fisherman caught labels. He over hyped it some, but the healthy bowls and fish dishes with brown rice looked appealing, and I figured being in Inwood Village with its Highland Park address it would be at least sort of fast food upscale. It wasn’t. It was Skips treat so he got the calamari and we both got the fish taco bowls. The calamari was cut in long thin strips, fried, served in a basket, and cooked well, nice texture, not overly chewy. I ordered my bowl without cheese or dairy, which the cashier confirmed, so I was really annoyed when the cabbage was dressed in mayo, but I didn’t want to complain since it was my friends treat. My friends bowl had cheese, which looked like the 1980’s shredded cheddar Taco Bell style. The Mahi Mahi was a little overcooked that took away some flavor and natural moistness of the fish. It was a mostly heathy meal that was worth the $ 10. Lunch for two $ 35 with drinks and appetizer.

Finally a fresh healthy fish place that won’t break the bank. The also offer whole wheat buns, non mayo slaw(thank you!!!) and yummy sautéd vegetables(although the fries are good too). The staff is always friendly and accommodating too.

Great food and atmosphere. I love fish tacos and the option to have them on brown rice is delicious! The majority of the videos on the screens are shot on O’ahu instead of Maui, which can make for a fun activity.

This place was a bit pricey but oh so worth it. The food was great. The employees were friendly and really knew the menu well and made great recommendations. I will definitely entry again. I had a chicken pasta that was amazing and my wife had shrimp. This a great compromise for us since I am a land lover and my wife always craves fish!

We are a Franco-Mexican couple and we love good food. Let me tell you the food in this place is delicious! Full of flavor, perfect portions, and originality. We tried the calamari, fish tacos, and the ahi tuna. Definitely recommend them. The service was great(fast and friendly). We will come back for sure!

My boyfriend and I wanted some decently priced seafood and I was eager to try this place based on previous reviews. It did not disappoint. We both had the seafood chowder and were split. I liked it way more than my bf did. What he didn’t like, I did. He found the fresh tomato topping unnecessary and I thought it was great. I had the coconut shrimp as a meal and really enjoyed it. The dipping sauce and size of the shrimp was excellent. My boyfriend has the fried calamari basket. Those were delicious! They were huge and well fried. The fries were nothing special. The price were affordable and the décor, even though cheesy was really cute. Surfboard tables? Yes, please.

The people who work here have definitely got the chill thing down, but maybe not the warmth of Hawaii. Also, just like it feels a little funny to eat at a sushi restaurant staffed by mostly Caucasians, it feels funny to eat at a Hawaiian joint staffed by mostly Caucasians. So there’s an awkward start when you first walk in hoping to relive your time in Hawaii only to be reminded by the staff that you’re still in Texas. Also, the music is way cheesy music like what people might«expect» to hear in Hawaii and without much variation. It’s cute, but kinda stereotypical and gets a little old after a while. This place has a lot of potential to be a great place to let loose and would be so much better with a less cliché soundtrack and a funner drink menu.(Suggestions: coconut juice, fresh fruit juice, smoothies, piña coladas, strawberry daiquiris, mai tais, maybe something in an actual coconut.) Also, the poke bowl(basically a poke take on chirashi) needs more poke. Also, why no desserts?

Hey poke bowl, you look pretty and taste good, but you’re a gold digger! I know you just flew in fresh from the ocean, but c’mon…$ 16??? I can’t sustain this relationship. And fish tacos, sorry, but you just don’t do it for me. Yeah yeah, you have a myriad of ingredients on top, but you’re sweet mango and two itsy bitsy pieces of avocado can’t hide your overcooked fish. And you’re kinda gold-diggin’ yourself. At $ 13 after tax for two of you, you could have at least brought your friends along to party. Where was French Fries or Rice or even Slaw? Your passion fruit tea was good though. I’m sorry, I’m going back to my exes, Fuzzy’s fish tacos. They may not be as well traveled as you, Coco, but they don’t pretend to be high-rollers and they won’t suck my wallet dry. And are my expectations just too high to wish you had Spam musubi?

Tried this place by default(the place we originally were headed to was closed for Labor Day). Man am I glad they were closed. This is the freshest, best tasting fish tacos I’ve had in Dallas. You should also try the seared ahi it was AMAZING!

This place has the best fish tacos around hands down. You have to have it with the tiger sauce and lots of napkins. The fries here are also pretty stellar. I had a rice and fish plate the last time I was there and the fish is always cooked perfectly. I would definitely ask for a side of their tarter sauce as well cause it’s addicting. My son likes to lick the tarter sauce cup after he is done with his fish and chips, it’s that good. If your a tea lover as well they have some good choices for you too.

If you’re having a case of the Hawaiian Blues then you should check this place out! The only thing that screams Texas about Coconuts’ is their portion sizes. I have been here a couple of times and their food is always fresh and delicious. I’ve tried their mountain tacos and their blackened Mahi Mahi plate. The Mahi Mahi just melts in your mouth and has the perfect amount of spice in each bite. The Mahi Mahi comes with brown rice and a side of lightly dressed slaw. I like this place because they have good quality, healthy food. They also have a kids menu with kid friendly options. For starters I would say to go for the tacos!

Get the fish tacos! It comes with a mix of mahi mahi and Ono. Portion size is great too. I’ve also tried the Ono with rice. Wasn’t a huge fan of this but I’ll be back for the tacos! Cute place with great service.

Ok. So my family of 3 boys and husband came here when it first opened. Absolutely loved the place. The owner cooked the food to perfection, staff was amazing and service was great. We consistently came back time and time again week after week it was THAT good. But over the last several times I have noticed the food is way over cooked… such a travesty! Some things can’t stay the same and upon the owner leaving and his children who managed it, the place really has gone down hill. Today I went for the first time in awhile and I was first greeted by a chick who seriously looked as though she would be happier working at McDonalds. Didn’t say hello or anything(which is surprising since usually they are all about customer service). At any rate I went and ordered the usual fish and chips. I knew immediately it was well over cooked since I have had this dish before. The top piece of fish was so dry and over cooked I couldn’t even break it apart! See picture. The bottom piece was ok but certainly not up to what it could be! So sad Coconuts… as a family friendly place you really have gone downhill and need to get your game back…

Really good fish tacos. The portions are huge! You get two tacos with a mound of grilled fish tacos atop two grilled corn tortillas. The grilled fish was seasoned well and came with slaw, mango, tomatoes, and some lemon wedges. I also tasted a hint of rosemary, which was a nice touch. Apparently they make the tacos with 17 different ingredients and you should try to eat the tacos with your hands(rather than a fork) so that you can get all the flavors melded together. If it’s your first time here and don’t know what to get, you can’t go wrong with the fish tacos!

After seeing Sharde’s and Trinh’s review of Coconuts, I had to eat here. When we got back from Florida, had to take the rental back to Love and Coconuts happens to be around the corner from the airport. Coconut’s is a seafood restaurant based out of Hawaii. They have cool surfboard seats! I got the grilled ono and my husband got the fish tacos. I talked him into the tacos because he was taking forever to order and I was about to starve to death. Not really, but I was hungry. I really liked the grilled ono. You can get it blackened, lemon butter, cajun, asian flair, south of the border, or salt, pepper, and butter. I got the lemon butter. The ono is a sweet and light fish. The lemon butter went well with it. The brown rice and the coleslaw was pretty good as well. My husband on the other hand grumbled the whole time about how big and messy his taco was. Really, dude? The taco does have 17 ingredients on it though. LOL. I would eat here again!

The fish tacos are loaded– two slightly toasted tortillas(white corn, I think~) are required to prevent the taco from exploding its Ahi and Ono, which is a white fish, contents. And then there’s the landslide of coconut milk coleslaw and diced mango on top. What a mess to eat! But so worth it :) I would come back to try other menu offerings for a change, like the ahi steak burger or seafood pasta~ Order at the counter, and they will find you at a table. Service came with smiles, and I loved how they asked if it was our first time here when the tacos came to our table; they explained what the mountain of stuff on the tacos was. I can’t decide if the surf board tables are cheesy or cute, but the fish tacos here are definitely something to try! ^^b

Don’t let the name fool you, this is not a cheesy tourist trap. We went on a Thursday night around 8pm and pretty much had the place to ourselves. The man at the cash register was very attentive and patient and explained the entire menu to us. We both got the same dish which was the super foods salad with seared ahi tuna. The fish was prepared perfectly and I loved the fact that they throw in two grilled shrimp. The salad mix was very good too. I tried the pineapple vinaigrette, but wasn’t crazy about it. I switched to the honey mustard which complemented the salad much better. When we were just about done the General Manager, Clark, came over to talk to us. He was very nice and wanted to make sure that we enjoyed our experience. This always goes a long way with us so we really appreciated that he took the time to do it. This is a great place to get something healthy, tasty, and quick.

We loved Coconuts Fish Café! The environment was so refreshing and delightful, and the service was above and beyond! My wife and I were really anxious to try this place out since we love seafood and we also love Hawaii. We visited for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, the place was a little empty and still very new. We ordered the fish tacos which was enough for both of us. One order comes with two really large tacos packed with fish, slaw, and mango salsa. As for the food itself I would have to deduct one star, the tacos were good, but definitely not the best I’ve had. They were a little difficult to eat because of their size, and it made it a little messy. Also, my tortillas were a little crispy, and I’m not sure if that’s how they intended it to be, but I prefer soft tortillas when eating fish tacos. I’ll be back because I believe that this place deserves a second chance, and I would be willing to try other dishes that may be better to my liking.

This place certainly catches your eye before even coming in. The décor was catchy and cute, inside and out. Service is friendly and the food is certainly delicious! We had their grilled chicken on a bun and a side of macaroni. The chicken was nicely marinated and seasoned with a nice grilled crunch. I can’t wait to come back and try more the menu!
