Sorry to hear that this will go under, along with the whole block. But really, who doesn’t love Black-Eyed Pea? They have always churned out one of the better chicken fried steak, in any city. Little did I know that this is the original location. Historic.

We have eatten here a NUMBER of times over the years. Yet recently something has changed– the staff quality has decided significantly and seems like they are hiring«street urchins» now as table staff. The food quality has also decided with the service, Given the recent area problems and now the complete turn over in staff and decline in food quality; they probably won’t stay in business long. I know my partner and I are now looking for other meal options. This place at best is now marginal food and sevice wise.

Here is your 80th review Black Eyed Pea. Now don’t get me wrong, my girlfriend is in the restaurant industry, so I understand. Black Eyed Pea is a great restaurant with delicious food. This particular one in this particular instance gave sub par service however. I ordered a chicken fried chicken, fried okra, green beans and mashed potatoes for pick up. They offered rolls and cornbread. When I got it, there was what looked like a bite in the roll, which there was one of btw. Just one roll and one thing of cornbread. When I ordered over the phone, the guy knew I was speaking with my girlfriend and he gave us those two I pieces of bread. No silverware either. And we tipped too. So there you are, clean up your act next time, I love the black eyed pea, so don’t make us not want to go there ever again. Oh, and like I said my girlfriend is in the industry, so we know how it is, but professional service is expected at all times. The food saved you, though, it was great as usual!

Maybe it was my fault for being new to the area, but I was really expecting a good old southern meal. I was left disappointed.

The fact that I give this establishment a full five stars says a lot more about the kinds of restaurants I prefer. The staff really enjoys their customers here, and many have worked as servers here for many years. Interesting seasonal specials, fair prices, decent portions, and an upbeat vibe is what this Black Eyed Pea location offers. No one will rush you here, at all. I almost always bump into folks I know here, and have enjoyed joining them for dinner. Friday specials are my favorite. I eat their fish dishes, meatloaf, chicken fried steaks, and burgers. Always good. In 20 years I’ve eaten here over 100 times, and I’d recommend it to anyone. A definite hometown, country feel that has hooked me for life.

One of my favorite restaurants in Dallas for comfort food. On the menu today was a baked potato loaded with pot roast, a side of onion rings, mango iced tea and fresh rolls with corn bread. Hubby had the fried catfish with broccoli casserole and red beans with rice. Everything was delicious and tender.

The Best Chicken Fried Chicken in Texas. Love the Rolls and Corn Bread starters. Staff is always friendly and the servers are normally on point. It is a must eat at on the strip.

Service with Chris was prompt, friendly, appropriate suggested entrees Dinner was served with a very cold solid baked potato. Was terrified to send it back as I saw the movie«Waiting» Had the fried catfish dinner. Don’t splurge the extra $$ for the baker. Rip off.

The original location. Still great food after all these years. Excellent fried food and home cooking dishes with great service right in the heart of Oak Lawn. Recommend the Chicken Fried Steak or Chicken, fried Okra and meat loaf. Southern Comfort food at its best.

We were looking for some comfort food that was close by and stumbled upon Black Eyed Pea. The food was decent– I’ve definitely had better however the food was warm and broccoli was steamed perfectly. The thing that will make me return to this place is the service. The service was superb and the waiters were on top of everything made sure everything was perfect. While it’s not the best restaurant I will be returning.

The service is wonderful. I can’t remember the host’s name but he was incredibly friendly and nice. I was just there for one drink and got some food to go, so I sat at the bar. The bartender’s name was AJ and he was great as well. Kind, fun, attentive. The food, which is the reason for my only two star review, was mediocre at best. Granted, I took it to go and didn’t eat it until I got home. However, I only live about five minutes away. The fries were cold. Not five minutes cold… at least thirty. The southwestern chicken wrap tasted just like every other chicken wrap I’ve ever had… okay. The chicken to tortilla ratio was just sad. The texture of the avacado that’s in the wrap can only be described as spongy and flavorless. For real, I ate a piece of avacado on it’s own and was literally alarmed when I bit down because the texture was so unfamiliar to me. I feel bad saying such bad things because the staff is so nice, but in the end, we are there to buy food! It should be cheaper or better quality. The bar was also out of FOUR different liquors that were asked for. A guest a few seats down from me ordered a milkshake(which is on the menu) and was told the blender had been broken for three months so they didn’t offer them anymore. Then take them off the menu? Or buy a new blender? I’m not sure if it’s poor management or what, but I am definitely sad about this experience. The space itself and the staff are incredible, but the product itself is definitely lacking in quality.

i have not been to black-eyed pea in over 10 years… just wasn’t a fan after having eaten there a few times. some friends & i were having a sunday funday down on the strip & wanted food to sober up… black-eyed pea it is! we walked in & were greeted right away, we had to wait a little while to be seated b/c there were several other large parties! once seated we were given some complimentary bread… scored & our orders were taken! i went with the fried catfish w/green beans & macaroni & cheese everything was delish & fresh… if we’re in the area again… i’ll come back!

If you happened to read any of my other reviews you probably noticed that I am visiting restaurants around Dallas Love Airport. So, on the trip to a local hamburger and milkshake restaurant, Hunkys, I found a parking space down the block in front of Black Eyed Pea. I am glad I decided to give it a try. The restaurant had a rustic look, a full bar, and was very clean. I was immediately seated and immediately attended to by my server. Skipping the special of the day, I chose Pot Roast off the lunchtime menu with two sides for $ 6.95. All the meals come with bread, I chose the cornbread to go along with my meal, which was delicious, My food came quickly. My server was very attentive. And I left the restaurant fully satisfied, knowing that I will return again.

Always a good to go for me when I’m not up to cook and just wanting some good comfort food. Either the half chicken or the chicken fried chicken is what I always order. The cornbread that comes out is always good, plus they have a good selection of sides for if you’re wanting to stick to the lighter side. Overall, it’s just what you would expect from a chain restaurant. Pretty consistent service and consistent southern comfort food.

Got some blackberry cobbler. Good news, it must be fresh. Bad news, they left a thorny branch in it! Cut my wife’s mouth up! They said«sorry about that.» That’s it. Unbelievable.
