I went to Smith & Hawken to find a Mother’s Day present for my mom. I’d been here once before to get some flower bulbs, which I’d hope to find again, but they weren’t there. This was disappointing because they are indoor flowers, which means you should find them any time of year. I was with my dad this time around. An employee was walking around with a cart and moving merchandise. She gave us a sort of rude, «Hi. Excuse me.» and shoved past us. A few minutes later, she came inside and found my dad looking at some outdoor thermometers. Apparently he was in her way, so she got short with him: «EXCUSEME, SIR.» and then proceeded to bump him out of the way with her cart without an apology. Then she went to chat it up with another employee about the«annoying little girl who teaches those classes at Williams Sonoma.» I ended up buying my mom a fern for her wall and a dish for a candle. My dad got her two candles. Each of our presents were $ 30. When I was at the register, the cashier told me to put water on the fern because«it looked very thirsty». Shouldn’t they be taking better care of the plants? We could(and should) have bought these things at Lowes or Bed Bath & Beyond for half the price. I won’t be coming back here.
