Est. 1888 is a really wonderful gift shop at the Hotel Del Coronado. The Del has such a unique history, and this shop really focuses on selling items that tell a story about the hotel’s incredible past. My son really loves history, and we spotted some pretty antiques the moment we walked through the door. The sales associate mentioned the lovely dishes from the Hotel Del Coronado’s opening were recently found in the hotel’s basement. My son couldn’t wait to buy a small piece of history to take back home with him. Although these items were being sold, some old letters or pieces of furniture weren’t. An old photo, hotel postcard, and a letter were framed and hung lovingly on the wall. An old chair and chandelier now resides in the store’s corner. It was so fun to see the beautiful old things displayed here. We also browsed the store’s nice selection of gift items. These«touristy» items, such as cute signs, magnets, mugs, and stationary, adorned the store’s shelves. An entire area was focused on Marilyn Monroe, who starred in Some Like It Hot which was filmed at the Hotel del Coronado in 1958. There were also plenty of books that focus on the hotel’s history. Items for the home, such as pretty frames, candles, pillows, mirrors, and other wall décor, were displayed on tables and walls throughout the store. The store really showcased the unique items sold here. The sales associate was friendly and helpful here. She was knowledgable about The Del’s history, and she had lots of fun stories to tell. Although the store was busy and she appeared to be the only person working, she was able to help everyone. It always nice to find someone that really loves her job! Whether you’re staying at the hotel or visiting for the day, Est. 1888 sells some really unique items that focuses on the Hotel Del’s wonderful history!

As I know my mom collects magnets from places, I walked in this boutique, hoping to find a souvenir for her. Cute store, love the frank Sinatra music playing. I found the perfect magnet. I wanted one also, so I picked up two. As I was waiting in line patiently for about 5 minutes already, since the sales associate was wrapping the fragile item the customer in front of me has purchased. Another sales associate came by looked at me and ignored me. She decided to help the customers behind me. It was racially disturbing. As I was the ONLYASIAN in the store. What kind of customer service was this?! I placed the magnets on the table and left. Never been so humiliated just because of my race. I’ve been to tons of parts in the US and NEVER dealt with this before, especially in my home state!
