This review goes out to the wonderful staff — Gail especially. It’s nice to know that they prefer to help all others before setting up one of the fire pits, the one specifically we have been sitting at for about 20 minutes now. Never mind that you were 10 minutes late to your shift — but because I already«had a drink» I don’t deserve to be helped. Maybe I was inclined to spend more money. It’s a shame especially since I’m a San Diego native — I’ve referred people to stay here but I guess not any longer. Management clearly needs some help in training these girls.

The sunset was the only positive aspect of our visit. Our server was slow and unpleasant. The beer was priced normally, but the margaritas were small and overpriced($ 18 for not even an 8oz glass)

You’re pretty much paying for the views at this place. Amazing views of the Pacific and overpriced drinks. The service was decent, but nothing memorable. It’s still probably worth it for a drink or two.

Perfect spot to hit at sunset. Grab yourself a drink, sit by the fire and relax with that special someone. Pretty low key and not a good place for crowds. I love this place and so will you. Enjoy your visit!

Great place for relaxing with friends/family or a first date. There are several couches around fire pits and the atmosphere os very relaxed. My only complaint was the kitchen was closed at 7pm(before sunset in the summer) but there are a few places right next door. The staff was very friendly an helpful… Chris did a great job taking care of us and the drinks are perfect.

The best view at the Hotel del Coronado. The bar is situated in front of all the restaurants & the glass fire pits are perfect to take the chill off after sunset. The food is NOT worth the price! Menu is mostly seafood except for the fun dessert: Churros & Mexican hot chocolate I had the Black & White Calamari, the«black» part is a Black flour. It tastes ok but this flour sucks up waaay too much oil while the normal(white flour) battered & fried calamari tastes good & doesn’t carry a lot of oil. The lemon garnish was slimy & disgusting though; NOT what I expect from an $ 18 appetizer. Service is ok, young college girls.

We come here many times during the summer to grab some lunch, some higher than normally priced drinks, and watch the waves with the family. While normally the service is slow compared to a restaurant, today’s experience was beyond poor. We’ve been sitting in the table service area for about an hour enjoying the view and our table was not waited on once. All tables around us were however. We did purchase pastries from the inside café earlier and were enjoying those at the table(which is permitted by the way) so if the waitress crew was making assumptions that we were being waiter on, they were sorely mistaken. Today’s service was horrible. We have yet to be acknowledged let alone waited on. The place isn’t even busy yet.

Best outdoor bar in San Diego & great to watch the Sunsets. Jose is an amazing bartender & consummate professional. I’ve seen some negative reviews & I’m baffled — there’s no way it could’ve been Jose — must have been on his night off. In Coronado — this is the best outdoor place for a drink.

Great scenery and live music, the service was friendly however didn’t feel like any urgency was important to the staff. Overall good experience but for the price I felt the service would be a little more attentive to the customers.

The hotel is beautiful as well as the view, but if I’m going to write about the bar, it was very disappointing. The bar tender was unloading boxes and stocking the bar. We ordered 2 bloody Mary’s which the bartender didn’t ask us for the type of vodka. He grabbed two plastic cups and filled it with ice, vodka, and off-brand gallon jug pre-mix… He then grabbed olives between his fingers, did I mention he was opening boxes and sweating. Never washes his hands. Not bad for only $ 36(before tip)… Really??? Very disappointing experience for such a nice hotel… Grab a coffee next door and skip the bar.

Great place to get a foofoo drink and enjoy the sunset. They have outside seating with firepits right on your table. Be prepared to spend some money. Everything on the menu is pretty pricey. Totally worth it though, it’s awesome sitting outside watching the sunset and sipping on something pretty and tasty.

After living in San Diego for three years I never heard about this place. My boyfriend and I came back to visit and he told me about it and I loved it. What a great view! Amazing atmosphere and great table service. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because the drinks are very expensive(but very tasty) and they don’t have enough people working at the bar the line didn’t move for 10 minutes. If you want faster service sit at a table don’t wait at the bar! Go take a walk on Coronado with your drink! Such a beautiful place!

Great view, nice hotel with cute and friendly staff. Great before a night out or after a long day and you would like a couple drinks and or a snack before you hit the room. Love the margarita cocktails

2 stars for drinks, 4 stars for view=3 star avg. This place is cool for the view of the beach. Plenty of seats and sofas with fire pit tables. The drinks are super expensive, but I guess that’s the ticket for the view. I believe my black sea salt margarita was $ 15. Nice place to people watch and catch up with friends, or even go on a date. Could take a romantic stroll on the beach.

My mom has this sentimental thing for Chula Vista, because her brother used to live down there. One time when she was visiting she dragged my dad, my husband, another friend and me to all of her old stomping grounds in CV from when she used to visit her brother. She took us to this totally divey(but nice) bar where she used to hang out with him. We sat for a while, had a drink, and I was congenial. But when we were finished, I said«Ok, Mom. Now I’m going to take you to one of MY bars.» And off we rode into the near sunset until we reached the Sunset Bar at the Hotel Del. All I can say is, my mom said«HOLYSH*T!» I felt kind of bad one-upping her like that, but I can be that way sometimes. There are no words to describe the Sunset Bar other than GORGEOUS and WONDERFUL and PERFECT. It’s smallish, consisting of a square bar with 360 degree seating, a few tables, and then these fabulous large sofa sectionals, each surrounding a large gas firepit. Oh, and a fabulous ocean view. They have a small menu with a bunch of specialty cocktails, and some hot and cold munchies.(I think you can also order a full dinner from the neighboring restaurant, but I’m not 100% certain on that.) Cocktail-wise, I’ve sampled most of them at least once, and they are all spectacular. I’m particularly fond of the Blackberry Margarita, but sometimes I just opt for a simple gin martini. It’s a full bar, so they’ll make you anything. There is always a server working and we seem to get the same woman a lot.(We go there a lot because it’s our default place to bring guests from out of town. It’s hard to find anything much more impressive.) I would be heartbroken, no, crushed if this place ever closed. As it is they are only open Tues-Sat from 5 pm on, with hours subject to change. DEFINITELY check this place out if you have not.
