Don’t often get to Coronado but today I felt like taking a ride. that’s when I discovered Emerald city Board shop. I think I spent over an hour just checking out the all the unique and interesting items they have. Today I purchased a new wetsuit cause the water is freezing. Next time I head over This will be my 1st stop! Super nice and friendly but most importantly I didn’t spend any more money then I would have elsewhere! I’m definitely going back!!!

Workers here are so stereotypical here. Worst Customer service. Girl was following us around as if we were going to do something. Never again coming back to this store. I’ve never experienced this and I’m so appalled with their behavior towards me.

I like to go in here and shop, I always find great swim suits, healthy and entertaining emplyees, and screws for my boards since my screws are always coming loose.

This place has terrible customer service. The staff were more interested in flirting with each other and checking out their own merchandise than helping a customer. I was trying on shoes and did not even receive an acknowledgment that I was there.

I absolutely adore this shop! Everyone is very helpful, and the place has a great vibe. The selection is fresh, and the products are always up-to date. I highly Recommend!

Love this shop! Everyone is super nice and helpful. They have a great product line and it’s not just surf wear. The girls dept has a great selection of clothes from sweats to nightwear. I grabbed a new pair of oakleys and just love them. Prices are reasonable even being in Coronado. The only problem with this place is parking. Sometimes it’s a hard to fine a spot close but definitely worth the walk once you get there.

If I could give zero stars I would! DONOT patronize this store unless you think it is ok for salespeople to provide slacker service and think they’re all that! Attn: staff at Emerald City… you are just lowly salespeople that should be providing customer service. But wait, your manager must be just as uneducated in the finer aspects of running a proper establishment. My husband purchased items and the sales«girl» actually a more mature chick with short brown hair did not even utter a «hello». It was as if she was«too cool» to even be pleasant –WTF! After ringing up the purchase, the chick didnt even have the COMMONCOURTESY to hand the credit card back to my husband. She just placed it on the counter – like he had the plague! She was RUDE, SMUG and ARROGANT! There are many other high end beach shops in Coronado. If you want a pleasant experience during your visit to Coronado, AVOID Emerald City!!! I hope the managers and owner is reading this. But wait, they don’t care!

They were extremely inappropriate ! I was very offended when I went to return the swimsuit my mom bought me for my birthday… I didn’t like the style at all. I went to return it with the tags and the panty liner still on. The clerk checked with his manager to make sure they could be returned and he said yes. Then the guy standing in the back said«Did you smell them?»(Insinuating that my vag smells!!) I told the clerk I was offed by the comment the other guy said. instead of apologizing he asked if I tried them on and I said«of course» and he said«well there you go»… Excuse me but people try the swimsuits on when they are in the store, they were bought as a gift so of course your gonna try them on! They had the tags and panty liner still on them and it was just inappropriate and embarrassing to make such a comment to a lady. All I wanted was an apology and I got rudeness…

One of the lamest surf shops ever! If you want a clothing store with some random overpriced surf gear and inattentive teenagers with attitude apparently in charge, this is your place! Otherwise, try a real surf shop in San Diego

These guys are the best!!! Highly recommended to any level of surfer. Quality products and service. Definitely a 5 star rating of a shop.

Shop seemed nice, but rent a sup board somewhere else if your inexperienced. Take sup surf lesson, make sure you have all you need, cuz these guys don’t.

These guys are posers. Nice store beat clothes but they don’t know surfing or how surfers are. They are lame.

Very impressed with the huge selection of everything for skaters, surfers and beach bunnies! The sandals collection is impressive as well as the sexy-sporty bikinis that are not easy to find in the US, no matter if this is California: most of the bikinis at a normal shop are huge, making your derrière look bigger and flatter instead of reshaping it. Here you can get if not the ‘dental floss’ at least something that makes you ladies look good and you will want to exercise even more to keep it up! I would say that this store is more oriented to men than women, but I don’t mind shopping for cool shirts with a message but without being tacky or too childish. Good variety of sun glasses, wallets, caps, everything. The atmosphere is sporty/maritime, cool and young. And is big, which is nice as this store gets crowded, mostly due to many tourists any time of the year. Overpriced? Yes, but like most business in Coronado. Emerald City is a pearl. By the way, what about a name change? This makes me think about Seattle, not about surfing and skating town!

Knocked down a store cuz on here it says opens at 9, but opened at ten and took away an hour I could have been on the water. Clearly, though, it would have been full stars otherwise! Rented a SUP from here when staying at The Del. Pricing a bit high($ 40 for 24 hours) but expected on Coronado. VERY helpful staff, both when I called on the phone and in person, really assisted me in choosing the right board for what I wanted to do. Rental was fast and easy, and the staff helped me secure the board into my car, which was preferable to using the roof rack I’d brought just in case. Return was easy as well, I took their warning seriously that if you return a board sandy, you’ll be charged. I think it’s a brilliant policy, actually, if you’ve ever dealt with the invasive sand that just gets EVERYWHERE. Help getting my board turned back in, help checking out, help was just superlative the whole time. Cute store, too, in a great location, I wish I’d had more time in this town to just hang around and browse. *Reflection: Not sure, but I think some people who consistently have negative things to say about service or sales staff might be the ones with the problems themselves.*

Really crappy service at this place, I walked in to buy an overpriced beach umbrella and the cashier was a total douche surfer boy wannabe who acted like he knew everything. It’s too bad this joing is on a main strip where it probably gets lots of tourist traffic so it gets as much business as it does. You’d think with a place where you pay so much for overpriced name brand stuff that you’d at least get polite, respectful service but NOOOOPE, just a bunch of douche asses who think they’re the sh*t working their retail job.

I don’t know what it is or why this happens, but when I plant my feet in a surfer/skater town, I feel like I need to get down with board shorts, expensive flip flops and $ 80 hoodies! So I found this store, which is directly across the street from our hotel and I start trying on shorts and hoodies and thinking about which overpriced pair of flip flops I NEED! As I am doing this, I notice that I walked in here wearing shorts and flip flops. Yes, I bought the flip flops at Marshall’s for $ 13, but the shorts, I swear, they are from a surf shop in OB! I wanted so bad to walk out of that shop holding nothing but my cell phone, but that’s not how it went. I ended up scrolling the sale rack and found a really cool pair of board shorts for like $ 34. So, the moral of the story being that I DON’T NEED any of this stuff, I just want it, even when I don’t want it. The selection is pretty good for guys and seems much better for the ladies. The prices are very So Cal/Coronado and that’s where I have an issue. I just can’t see myself dropping this kinda jack on a bunch of stuff that I don’t really need. But, if you are the type of person who can afford to overpay for stuff you don’t really need, then this is definitely a place you will enjoy.

The employees are more hanging out than they are working… though I’ll say that the manager did look like he was working hard. The products there are overpriced, even for a surf shop but not to the point that I would call it an all-out tourist trap. All that said, I would have given the place 3-Stars until yesterday. Return policy. There is none. Nowhere in the store or on the receipt do they tell you that sales are final. They offered me «store credit». I don’t want a piece of plastic. My wife’s shorts weren’t comfortable when she tried them on at the hotel(stayed in Coronado for our anniversary) and we found a better product at a better price somewhere else. I don’t want anything from that shop and we live almost an hour from Coronado. I don’t want store credit for something we bought less than 24 hours ago. I will never go back there. If you go, there any are about to buy something BE100% SURETHATYOUWANTIT. Once they have your money in the register, they’re done with you.

They have a huge selection, but the people that work there are just the rudest on the planet. There are literally things there I want to buy but I won’t because the staff are such knuckleheads especially the one goth loser that has worked there for like ten years.

Response to James C.: I do surf. Even in their board area, the place is just lacking. Having the same shirt in three colors doesn’t mean they are different. I have been going here for years and it has definitely gone down hill. Also, I am not a Sun Diego fan, I really wish the owners of Emerald City would shape up and get this place back to where it was 5 – 10 years ago.

one of the few locally owned surf shops in s.d., has anything and everything for your skate and surf needs. The lady above must be blind, because there are about 8 different style emerald city shirts and tons of sizes. Keep shopping at Sun Diego lady, the shop is there to cater to surfers and skaters, not whiny ladies.
