First time here and I’m very satisfied. Got the rib tip dinner. Very tender and you get a lot.

Don’t waste your time, gas or money on this place. Although this business appears to have state of the art quality equipment there is never the familiar smoke or BBQ aroma or a line of customers? I went a year ago & got the beef brisket. It was very obvious microwaved, I had to throw it out. Today, mothers day, since Bludso BBQ was sold out my daughter gave 4 J“s Woods a try. The chicken & ribs were baked with liquid smoke & tomato sauce. The beans were out of a can, potato salad was pitiful and too salty. The Macaroni & cheese was obviously a generic brand/knockoff of Kraft(nasty). The Cornbread lumpy, bland hard as cement & microwaved to death!!! Just downright NASTY!!! So approximately $ 50 worth of food was not edible & we gave to a neighbor’s dogs. If there were a minus star rating 0f 1 – 5 I would rate this place minus 5. I don’t know how or WHY this place is still open!!!

Nasty! This place is so nasty that I previously wrote a long post to explain all of the reasons why it was nasty and my post accidentally erased and I still came back to write about it. The food is flavorless. The Mac & Cheese seems to be Kraft or Velveeta which is far from homemade. The baked beans seems to be pinto beans with bland barbecue sauce. Nothing about this place was good unless you have never tasted real food. The owner or the cooks ought to be ashamed of themselves serving people this madness. I couldn’t believe it. They had no line and Bludso’s had a line of 20 people so I skipped it and came here. Bad choice. Bludso’s is worth the wait and Jay Bee’s is worth the drive. I had the rib tips lunch and it was so flavorless that all I could taste was wood. No flavor to the barbecue sauce what-so-ever! 4 J’s if you want to stay in business, please hire a new cook. This was the nastiest food I’ve had. Very disappointed.

I like to call ahead and take out. As usual this weekeng Bledsos didnt answer so I gave 4j a try. Be ready to add your own side’s, thiers are weak. Bring your ear buds or laundry or something to do, they ain’t fast. Got home, mmmmm. Links, chix, ribs! they were ok, like I’d do in the slow cooker, without the clean up. As far as Mississippi, I’m thinking the slow service, mixing up the order and forgetting cornbread is the only thing they got in common with Mississippi. If ya dont wanna clean up, not too many mouths to feed, ok. Otherwise fresh and easy and a little elbow grease can do much better for less than 1⁄3 the price. Sometimes I’m lazy. bbq aint easy to clean off my stove.

I guess I’ll just have to face the fact that I’ll never find really good BBQ in Southern California. 4J’s is better than Bludsoes but that isn’t saying much. My review of 4J’s is only about their ribs. I’ve been there 3 times now and like every other BBQ place, their big problem is consistency. On my fist visit I was very impressed, it was shortly after they had opened. The ribs were tender, full of flavor and meaty. I thought I had finally found a place with decent ribs. My second visit wasn’t as good, lacking flavor and not as tender. My third and last visit was just terrible. Overcooked, no flavor and plenty of fat. I think these were yesterday’s ribs that they reheated in the microwave. Oh well, my quest for great ribs continues!

Hate to give a new business that claims their food is Mississippi style a one star. But when your bbq beans are worst than low budget can beans, your sliced beef taste like public school cafeteria food, and your pork ribs are bland(no wood smoke) taste more like liquid smoke. A one star is what you get. Sorry 4 Js but no way never again.

This place is trash. I was looking for bar bq found this place on Unilocal and boy am I madddd. The two meat combination comes with greens, potato salad and corn bread. I got a lunch sized baked beans and a lunch size potao salad. I asked if the dinners came with greens(im looking dead at it on the menu) and the lady said ill give it to you this time. What? And I only got one with two dinners. On top of all of that none of my food was cooked on a pit. I mean it was the oven that cooked it. Not a grill mark on my links, on my chicken nor on my ribs. They could have takin it to BK and got some grill marks at the least. How many grill marks would you like ma’am(sir). They should have used 4 js for that commercial. Taste was alright for no grill and the sause was decent thats the only reason they got a star.

For a place with the words«Wood Pit BBQ», I feel like the only wood in 4J’s Wood Pit BBQ are the 2×4’s that make up the frame of the building. Last night I had the 2 meat combo with sliced beef and links. The sliced beef tasted like your above average roast beef sliced thinly and drenched in sauce. NOSMOKEFLAVOR. The links were also the same. Like a Foster Farms Kielbasa also drenched in sauce. The sauce is sweet and tangy and I liked it a lot, but there was no wood smoke flavor in that meat. The mac and cheese just ehhh… For what this place advertises as Wood Pit BBQ, I say pass on this place. But if you just want beef and links in a good BBQ sauce, then this place is OK.

My husband, son, and I all ordered the rib tips lunch plate. So good — most of it. Some pieces were so soft and yummowummo and some pieces I had to chomp n chew, but those pieces were rare. Also ordered a medium side of Mac n Cheese. The lunch plates were said to come with potato salad and bread, however each plate we ordered came with a small cup of mac n cheese, and one larger-sized cup of potato salad. Seems they got our side orders backwards but it wasn’t a big deal. I hate anything bbq… can’t stand getting my hands messy. But I ate the plate clean. My fam n I always put food places in two categories, 1. Repeatable, and 2. Not. haha. 4 J’s is definitely repeatable.

Yes, I’m cheating on Bludso’s today. 4 J’s Wood Pit BBQ just opened, so I decided to give it a try. They are at the location, formerly occupied by D & A bbq. There is a small area where you can eat, but this is primarily a to-go place. There is ample parking in the back and street parking. This place is a shack. There are 2 windows, one for ordering and one for pick up. There is a menu board between the windows to make your choice. They have the menu board in English on one side of the shack and Spanish on the other. What did I try today: Chicken BBQ Lunch(2 pcs) — I got a thigh and a breast piece. I requested the hot bbq sauce, but it wasn’t too spicy(for me). The thigh was very good. The meat was almost falling off the bone, perfect. The breast was okay. It wasn’t dry and was good. But not as good as the thigh. **disclaimer: I’m a thigh & leg aka dark meat guy, so I might be more incline to enjoy dark meat than white meat. Pork Link — I got this because my original order of beef lunch(brisket — sliced) was not yet ready. The pork link was okay. Smoky with a hint of spiciness(I said hint, because that too was not spicy enough for me) The lunch order comes with a small side of potato salad & bread. I requested if I could replace one of the potato salad with a baked bean and the gentlemen taking the order said he would just give me the baked bean on the house.(score a point for customer service) D & A who was at this location before was notorious for bad service. They had the rudest person taking the orders. That’s why me and almost everyone at work stopped going there.(probably why they had to close) They gave me 3 sides(for waiting, plus free soda) Potato salad — comes with all the lunch meals. It was very good. I’m not a potato salad person, but theirs is very good. Mac N Cheese — was also good. Bake Bean — was just okay. There was a piece of bbq beef in it, that was good. but the bake bean as a whole was just okay. Service was very good. The gentlemen taking the order was very kind and accommodating. When a problem came up(beef was not ready) They tried to remedied the problem asap and was very honest about the problem. I appreciate that. I know they are just starting up and it’s understandable. I’ll update this review as I go through their menu(looking forward to the beef brisket) I’ll give them a preliminary score of 3.5 stars and bumped up to a 4 for the service. The people running this place are very kind and helpful. I wish them good luck, I hope they succeed.
