This is a great store if you want quality dishes and glassware cheap. Note that I said quality. This is really heavy duty stuff and it’s almost impervious to breaking. And the price is right. I bought a dozen plates for $ 1 each. If you’re not picky about styles it’s a great deal.

The Source by Wasserstrom is the Value City of the kitchen world, selling discontinued and overstocked kitchen wares. They have a variety of bowls, plates, glasses, pots, pans, heating dishes, kitchen equipment, decorative pieces etc. Brand names include Fiestaware, Oneida, and Libbey. The designs are basic. Their platters are the epitome of platters. Their beer steins are the epitome of beer steins. No designs. No etchings. No logos. They have some interesting shapes — all classics though. When it comes to the Fiestaware, you have color options; that’s about as far as The Source stretches. Everything is of good quality. Nice, heavy dishes. If you’re looking for something simple and elegant, The Source usually fits the bill. And, speaking of the bill, since the items they sell are misfits of sort, they’re affordable.

The Source is a pretty cool little outlet for plates/dishes/random kitcheny whatnots. Most of it is overstock or incomplete sets of dishes, and the stock ranges from restaurant-style to home décor. I picked up a couple espresso cups for fifty cents a piece. They’re utilitarian. Small, obviously, and white. No frills. Restaurant style. Most espresso cups I come across say horrible things like«espresso» in cursive. Or quips and quotes that completely take away any joy I might have while chugging two ounces of black madness, pinky pointing to the moon(yeah, I know, that’s a killer band name). But that, I think, is the appeal of The Source. Everything is all design without the culture. You can get plain white dishes formed at striking angles. Tall, thin glassware, and long wide serving dishes. Most of it is interesting without pushing too hard. And all of it is cheaper than usual. A rarity in the North Market.
