Service was good, jerk Chicken great, but that sweet tea with papaya was AMAZING. Wish I had more of it. Definitely could tell cook was from Jamaica. I visited Jamaica 3 times and I was very pleased

First let me start by saying I’m from the Bahamas and grew up in south Florida my entire life. With that said I have had the best of the best carribean food. I have visted Jamaica 3 times and I have had the authentic Jamaican food. I’ll keep my review short. The food was delicious. I had oxtails, rice and peas, cabbage. The food was well prepared and seasoned really well. The oxtail was not too fatty and the rice and peas was cooked great. The service was good as well. The only reason Mama J did not get 5 stars is because the portion for the price was inadequate. I got exactly 4 oxtail on my plate. I am use to at least 8 coming with my order. The server was very polite and informed me that it came in only one size because I thought I received the small. But nevertheless the experience was a rating worth 4 stars. Try them out! I highly recommend!

Mama j’s used to be good food but they have fallen off. My jerk chicken tasted like it was frozen and reheated along with my rice. Their price is too high for the amount and quality of food. The lunch special is pretty much normal price. Not to mention it takes forever to get your food. Maybe ill try it again in a fee months.

First time in Columbia for lunch. Based on the Unilocal reviews I picked this place to eat. It was on point. My only complaint is that it took too long to get our food. It was not crowded. In most Jamaica restaurants the food is already cooked not sure why it took so long. Other than that the food was delicious. I ordered the jerk wings with oxtail gravy. The chef was VERY nice.

Food was great, jerk chicken was well seasoned. Only bad thing was that the wait time for the food was excessively long. Main meal was served but we had to wait an extra 20minutes for plantains.

The food here is delicious everything is always so fresh but the service is always so slow. They seem to have a lot of people working and the dining room is never full but to get something like a drink even takes forever. If you are not in a rush tho, or have patients it is the best Caribbean food in Columbia.

Order the jerk. Disgusting, tasted like frozen and reheated brown stew chicken. Tasted nothing remotely close to jerk chicken. and am not even comparing it to real jerk chicken with pimento wood slowly cook on a grill. I’m talking about not even oven roasted with some generic brand jerk sauce throw on it. I would have settle for that at least.

Strong 4 stars, probably the best place in Columbia for island cuisine. I had the Ackee and saltfish and my wife had the jerk chicken. Service was prompt and friendly, but I had the mac and cheese that fell a bit flat, so I couldn’t go above the 4 star rating.

A MUST try if you love flavor and into trying something different. I’ve had pretty awesome Caribbean food before in hole in the wall places like this and the food here was definitely on par from what I remember. The oxtail plate was $ 11, which is pricier than some of the other meats, but it’s so worth it. The spices and juices just explode in your mouth and are balanced well with the rice and cabbage. The meat falls right off the bone. The beef patty was just under $ 2 and was also delicious. I think the filling is a mixture of beef and beans or something because it had a creamy texture. Don’t know, just get it. I seriously had to fight myself from eating my whole plate. I’m sure it’ll taste just as good for lunch!

Found this place on Unilocal and decided to try Caribbean cuisine for the first time. I had the oxtail as suggested by the owner. It was very tasty and the rice, peas, cabbage, and plantains were very good as well.

We checked out Mama J’s based in a Instagram photo Friday. We are so glad we did, the food was delicious. The menu was explained to us this way. You have quite a few choices of meats — jerk chicken, curry goat, escovitch fish, etc… The you chose the type of rice you want — white or rice and peas. You get plantains and cabbage with each meal. The price point is very fair and varies with the meat choice. I got the jerk chicken and white rice. Everything was delicious!!! I don’t eat plantains so I fed them to my 10 month old. She ate that, rice and cabbage. I love cabbage and this was right on point! The rice was so good, I just kept eating it and eating it and eating it. I got a thigh and breast. Next time I will request all dark meat, I’m not a fan of chicken breast. I will tell all of my friends and coworkers about this place. Go today!

A nice new addition from just ordering from the old Oriental Market. Really great Jamaican food here I certain of that, I opted for one of my favorite dishes here Goat Curry w pigeon pea rice. The goat is fall off the bone good and the rice has a great flavor and texture too. The meal also comes w cabbage and fried plantains, they also let me try pumpkin rice today which is a first for me. It will run you around 11.00 even for all that good food. The location is on Decker Blvd right next to The Oriental Market close to Clifton Seafood. This is the reason why Decker is called the international boulevard is because of awesome places such as this and many more ethnic restaurants. My Local Spot!!!
