Duncan Creek is a gem in downtown Chippewa Falls — the food is wonderful and unique. It is expensive and the portion sizes(esp. the appetizers) are sometimes skimpy, but for an elegant treat, I can highly recommend it.

The food here used to be great – delightful, well-prepared, made with quality ingredients – but it’s gone downhill over the past two years. Each visit is worst than the last. My most recent visit was on a Wednesday night. It was almost empty, but I stood in the doorway for 5 minutes waiting for someone to seat me. There were two patrons in the front of the house but no waitstaff. Finally, I just sat down at the bar. I then waited another five minutes for a bartender to appear. He knew nothing about the wine on the menu and had to ask someone in the back of the house when I asked for their driest white. The only food I ordered was the crab cake appetizer. Huge mistake. The crab cakes were the color and consistency of cat food straight from the can – grey/brown, semi-solid mush. Against all of my better judgement, I took a small taste… I’m pretty sure«rank» is the only word that can accurately describe that experience. So gross. I literally shuttered. I quickly finished my wine – desperate to get the rank, salty fish taste out if my mouth – paid my tab, and left. Never. Again.

With few options to eat in Chippewa Falls, this place stands out(though even if there were more options, this place would stand out!) I came here for lunch — on a business trip — it’s a clean, comfortable restaurant located on the main road in town. Nice selection of wines, thought I didn’t have any this time. The menu ranges from sandwiches to flatbreads, with a decent selection of appetizers(the dinner menu might be more extensive.) I had the Artichoke and Spinach flatbread, which also was topped with some baby portobello mushrooms. It was quite tasty. Service was fast and friendly(my waitress Emily helped me pick out this delish dish!) Highly recommend this place — it’s a diamond in the rough in Chippewa Downtown!
