Good luck on figuring out the hours on this place. No website, nothing on the office door, and the hours on my insurance provider’s website are inaccurate. Supposedly it’s 9 – 4 everyday however I arrived at 9 and waited till 9:15 and no one was there. If you thought that was shady, wait till you go to the back area of the office. It looks like something out of a SAW movie and doesn’t look like it’s been cleaned or touched in some time. When it comes to eye care, I’m amazed the place is in as much disarray as it is. That being said, the doctor was helpful and gave good responses to questions I had.

Pros: Nearby + ??? = Profit Cons: Uncaring staff Shabby looking Staff uncaring I suggest everyone read Patricia K’s earlier schizophrenic rant on this store instead of my mildly soporific one here. That being said, when I went to this store, armed with my fancy private eye insurance, I expected to be met with open arms. Not the hateful looks of disgust Medicaid insurees get(amirite Patricia?!). Instead what i got was an assistant who couldn’t tell me what the charges would be regardless of whether I ordered glasses, contacts, or an eye-slurpee. In fact she suggested I call Bluecross and figure it out myself. It was very kind of her to suggest that, as her response also told me she didn’t want my business. Privilege: 1 Society: 0

Yes, this is a small optical office located in the heart of Uptown. You are quick to judge if you go only by the appearance outside. I was very impressed by the professionalism and great customer service offered at this office! I walked in too find a very knowledgeable staff that explained my insurance benefits. Dr. Dewaard was very pleasant and explained the results of my eye exam very clearly. The selections of the frames were stylish at very fair prices. Dr. Dewaard’s staff patiently showed me various frames and offered their honest opinion. Having worn glasses most of my adult life this was the best experience ever at any optical office.

Based on Caroline’s review, I decided to go to Wilson Optical which is down the street from me. I was not as impressed as Caroline. I didn’t have services done. I walked in and all their glasses are in locked cases. It’s a poor neighborhood so you can understand why. But there was a price list and the frames ranged from $ 175 to $ 350. The selection of frames was meager — this was not Lenscrafter. The young man behind the counter was definitely not a sales man. In fact he wasn’t even a licenced optician. When I asked was he licensed he said no, he was trained in the office and you didn’t need to be licensed. He did not present himself very well and I walked out. My 2 stars is based on the customer service and décor of the office, which was not inviting. I wish someone has been in a white coat at least to give me confidence in their abilities. Single lens started at $ 69 and bifocals started at $ 89. I know the reviews for Affordable Optical on Sheridan were poor, but I’ve had my last two lens RX filled by them with no problems. The only complaint is it takes one week to get the glasses back. However, I never bought a frame from them.

I love Wilson Optical. Dr De Waard is extremely friendly and professional. It’s easy to get to and the prices are very affordable.
