My experiences at Pizzeria Via Stato are always positive! I especially love their prosciutto pizza with arugula and balsamic vinegar… The complement of flavors and textures are very pleasing on the palate. I also love their garlic appetizer as well as the onion small plate. They have an incredible lunch deal that includes a sandwich, and has an easy to upgrade option where you get a terrific deal on a full sized pizza, a small serving of a grain salad and a nearly guilt free serving of chocolate torte. I would suggest making reservations on weekend evenings, but have almost always been lucky with rarely needing one!

Great thin pizza with a very nice wine list. Very warm and welcoming service and seated promptly for our reservation. My wife had a pasta dish that was tasty and flavorful. I had the pepperoni pizza that equally good.

Went here to celebrate my birthday last weekend. Our waiter, Dario, made us feel like celebrities and made the night really special. Love love love the ambiance/décor of this place and the super thin pizza is delicious(if it’s that thin, you can eat a whole one to yourself guilt-free, right?), but the service here is what deserves 5 stars. no, 6. PS. Order the Garlic & Balsamic small plate. AMAZING with the warm bread they bring to the table.

This place connects to the Embassy Suites on State Street. We enjoyed the savory pizza with a very thin, crispy crust. The veggie had a nice balance of tangy red sauce, fresh mushrooms and green peppers. The quattro formaggi, a white pizza with four cheeses was also very good. Service was iffy. Our server didn’t bring us grated cheese with the table bread and olive oil – or maybe we had to ask to get any. It was very obvious the servers wanted us out of there pronto so they could turn the table. They repeatedly asked, «Is there anything else?», cleared away everything but water glasses the second we finished and came back repeatedly with cloths to make little wiping motions at our table. There is one unisex restroom right in the corner – always busy.

The Food: The food was so delicious it was unbelievable. This is hands down the best pizza and italian small plates I have had in Chicago! The foccacia came with olives and absolutely devine prosciutto. The bread that came with the olive oil dipping sauce, was not only a great warm temperature, it was perfectly crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The heirloom caprese was simply amazing. The tomatoes were seasoned to perfection. The pizza was thin and perfectly cooked. The gelato was out of this world. We got two flavors — coconut and burnt caramel. The Bubbly: Our server helped up pick a delicious bottle of prosecco that was a great compliment to our food. The Service: Our waiter was spectacular. He was attentive but did not hover. He also had great recommendations. Overall, I can’t believe I have been here for seven years and never ate here. I am definitely going to become a regular. The food and the service are amazing. This is a true gem in the city!!!

This place has some good pizzas. We’ve been here a few times, and always eat on the pizza side by the bar, never the actual restaurant. They make then extra thin and crispy– consistency of a cracker. Really good though! Recommend the margarita and the one with the prosciutto. For apps I loved the grilled octopus with fingerling potatoes. band for dessert… get the banana bread pudding!

Sat down and 20 minutes later I found myself fetching a hostess to fetch me a server. Ordered the veal meatball and it was cold. We also ordered a Margherita pizza but he forgot to put it in so we had to wait another 20. He never came around to ask how the food was or anything. On top of that, I had to go find a hostess to find me my server again to give me the check. THISWASBEYONDRIDICULOUS. where is the sense of urgency?

I have been to Osteria Via Stato several times for dinner, however, I’ve never been here for lunch so I thought it was about time. I was able to score a table on the patio. Roy, server, had greeted at the table and then took my drink order. Since I was heading to work afterward, I just had a soda. The runner had brought the bread and olive oil, which was outstanding. When Roy had returned, I had opted to have the Quattro Formaggi Pizza. About 10 minutes later, the pizza was brought to me. The pizza itself was large enough to share. The pizza was really goooood. Roy would check in with me and made sure my beverage was full. I was not able to enjoy any dessert this time. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a great lunch and service.

For me this is the best crispy, paper thin pizza in this city. Now, this doesn’t mean I don’t like deep dish or middle weight crust, but thin and crispy, this is the place for it. With ample outdoor seating and a very laid back attitude, this place is all that. It shares space with Osteria Via Stato, which also happens to be a favorite of mine. What you can’t pass up here is any kind of pizza, just choose your fave ingredients, the roasted garlic that you spread in your warm bread, the tomato and burata salad, or the field greens lightly dressed with walnuts, the chicken Mario or the greasy, deep fried but so good Calabria potatoes. I just named a few items from Osteria as well as the pizzeria side. If you sit at the bar, you can order from both menus. We had an awesome server, while seated outside, who understood that I can’t just have the pizza, that I must also have the chicken Mario from the Osteria Via Stato menu. Thank you. Give this place a try, it’s definitely worth it, and I’ll always recommend this and Osteria. My comfort food stop.

Food is decent, just not over the moon for it, service is good! Hubby and I go there whenever he craves pizza and theirs come closest to the authentic Italian ones. We both hate deep dish… sorry Chicago, that should be called cheese pie, bc calling it a pizza is disgrace to all pizzas.(Sorry for my rant lol)

I ask the server why the focaccia is $ 12. «Because Chicago,» he says. Indeed. Is the focaccia a big piece? «No.» Hm. Well, I’ll just have a pizza then. I receive what tastes like spray cheese over ketchup on a cracker that breaks apart in my hands. I’m pretty sure Tom Hanks made these in «The Terminal.» When you’re here, you’re so close to Pizzeria Uno(or Due), just walk over one block and enjoy that cheesy goodness. And if you want cheaper focaccia, jump across the street to Eataly.(I hate that place, but the focaccia is reasonably priced.)

This place has an expansive outdoor seating area. The service was good as all the waitstaff were very helpful and answered all our questions. They serve bread before the meal and I have to say it was warm and delicious. Our party of 4 ordered 2 salads, the beet salad and the mixed greens salad, both of which were delicious. I especially enjoyed the beet salad. We got two pizzas for the table, which we needed as we pretty much ate all of it. We ordered the margherita pizza and the vegetable pizza. The veggie one was pretty good, but the highlight for me was the margherita. I think I could eat it every day. The pizza is very thin and crispy, so if you like doughier pizza this may not be your place. 4 stars only because we were one of the first parties there and they mixed up our salad order.

If you are a tourist do yourself a favor and get a delicious thin crust pizza at Pizzeria Via Stato. The service is great and the food delicious. Why stand in line for deep dish Uno’s or Gino East when you can enjoy your food without the two hour wait.

I’m obsessed with their margherita pizza. I’ve tried their other pizzas, but I wouldnt get anything else. It’s a great place to stop for a quick lunch/dinner and pretty decent priced for the area!

My wife and I were staying late in the city one night, so we went off and tried a new pizza place. For an appetizer, we got olives and veal meatballs. They also provided complimentary bread. For the pizzas, my wife got a margherita pizza, while I got the special; a white pizza with rapini and an egg over easy in the middle. I really liked the bread; a very open crumb, crispy crust and great, yeasty flavor. This could easily have come from the Eataly bakery down the street. It(and the olives) were served with a vibrant, fruity olive oil that didn’t need any parmesan cheese at all. There were black, green and(perhaps) Kalamata olives. Whatever harshness olives can have was tempered by the olive oil, and the olives were nice and fresh. It was topped with some preserved oranges, which flavored the olive oil… in which we promptly dipped the bread. The veal meatballs were quite good and tender as well. The pizzas are very thin and crisp. I really liked the rapini pizza; the bitter, crunchy rapini contrasted with the smooth egg and creamy ricotta. The margherita pizza had a very bright, fresh tomato sauce and some good cheese. It’s not the best pizza in the city, but Pizzeria Via Stato is a good, inexpensive option for date night.

Great thin Pizza — stellar service and really nice wine list! We sat on the patio and did some people watching. Great vegetarian options. Excellent desserts.

I came here on a Sunday evening with my bf and his family with a reservation. They wanted pizza, but weren’t looking for deep dish — this place was a great choice! We asked to be seated outside instead of inside, and they were happy to seat us in the patio. The waiter, although very impatient and abrupt, was helpful in recommending vegetarian pizza options for my bf’s family. The kitchen was even able to cater to our preference by running out to get fresh peppers to throw on top of the pizza to make it spicier. For the four of us, we ordered the Margherita, mushroom and four cheese pizza — which was the perfect amount for us. The pizzas are cut into mini squares and perfect for sharing. I highly recommend ordering the Mushroom pizza! The restaurant is great, however our the server gave us some attitude, seemed a bit rushed when taking our order, and ultimately took over 20 minutes to get the check.

I love the smell of this place! Mmmmmmmm, freshly baked bread, cheese, garlic… I think the smell was the best thing about it! The food was definitely good, just not overly-so. I went with some gfs and we all got salads which were good. The wine was good. The white bean salad was a highlight. Really great flavor. They were rather busy, which made for a slightly overwhelmed server, but service was good as well. So yeah, it was an ok experience. A little on the pricey side for pizza, but it’s in a hotel soooo, I guess that’s a given.

Restaurant review Great lunch special! The Just bring me lunch pronto is 9.95 and includes the seasonal soup, sandwich, and a small sliver of chocolate tart for dessert. The chicken pesto sandwich has good flavor and served hot from the brick oven. The dessert is delicious, but a very small quantity. With your meal you also get hot bread from the oven with olive oil which perfectly complements an italian meal. You can’t beat that price for lunch in Chicago.
