The food is excellent. But I’ve ordered from here twice for delivery and both times my order has taken over 2 hours to get delivered. Do yourself a favor and order for pick up from this place. Bread pudding is nasty as well.

I like the food here but have had 2 weird delivery experiences with the drivers and tips. The first time the delivery guy told me to next time give the tip in cash. Okay, you’re welcome? Second time the driver held on to the food for a second and gave me some look like he was waiting for a tip. I pay tips on card when I order. I don’t know what’s the issue with these guys.

They got my order wrong, asked for two mixed dinners with rice and cabbage, and one side of mac and cheese. I was told the order would be ready in 15 minutes, got there in 20 mins and waited an additional 20 mins. It was a lot of bones in the chicken, the cabbage was well seasoned, and the mac and cheese was blah. Reminded me of kids blue box mac & cheese.

The jerk shrimp, rice and beans, cabbage, and plantains… all good. The jerk seasoning is beyond spicy though, almost to the point of excessive. I’m African and I’m all about spicy so that’s saying something coming from me. If you’re on the fence or can only handle a little bit, don’t do it. The dinner portions are quite large — one dinner order is good for two meals. Call in advance with your order because this place is extremely slow. You’re likely to wait 20 mins easily.

I have eaten enough Jamaican food in my day, to know that the amount you should be getting for the price you pay. It’s a unspoken rule. When I ordered the $ 13 combination plate from JJS, today. call me crazy but I expect more than two pieces of jerk chicken and 3 scoops of «curry goat» which was more like curry goat bones and fat with an occasional sparce lump of actual goat. Summary of the rest of my order: a. Jerk chicken needed to be grilled an extra 10 minutes. b. Rice and beans were okay. Have had better. c. They side order of plantain was overcooked and overpriced. d. I have yet to find a Jamaican restaurant in the city of Chicago that knows how to make some real baked mac and cheese. I can’t stand that dry, day old, Velveeta bullsh*t. Idk why I always order the macaroni, whenever I try a new Jamaican spot when I already know what to expect. e. My brown stew with cabbage lunch special was the best tasting thing, but the whole paying a dollar to request for majority white meat in your stew is a bit absurd. Jamaican Jerk Spice, you’re either going to have to serve small portions of really amazing Jamaican food or serve large portions of subpar Jamaican food. But small portions of subpar food will not get you return customers. PS. I think they charged my card twice. I’ll have to call my bank to get down to the bottom of it.

If I could give this less than 1 star I would. My girlfriend and I attempted to order from Grubhub but their ordering service was inactive(which was a sign not to order from this place). We called to place the order of 3 veggie platters. When the food arrived our order was missing our 3rd veggie plate! The delivery man didn’t have $ 10 change for our $ 30 order when we attempted to pay with to twenty’s. He suggested we get in the car with him and get change(mind you it’s 11PM and delivery man or not, he’s a stranger!) When we called to pay the exact amount with our card over the phone the cashier over the phone REFUSED. Then we just gave the man back items to make our bill less that $ 20 and just give him the $ 20 but he refused to take the money and drove off. He then returned to our home and lurked around our door at that point we were fed up, handed him the remainder of the food we ordered and told him to take it back. I will absolutely never order from this incredibly unprofessional establishment, and you will bring about yourself a waste of time and energy for sub par food if you do so.

This is the worst carry out experience I’ve had this year. The time I ordered my food was 8:58p, but it wasn’t ready until 9:42p. A Jerk Chicken Dinner is what I got; nothing fancy or extraordinary. I’ve been here before, and when I ordered a jerk salad the previous visit, it was completely covered in cheese! The courtesy is to ask if cheese is a yay or nay, but I was able to push a bunch of the cheese aside to get through the salad. This time around, the customer service was at an all-time low. The cook was so slow, a woman that called in her order came in to pick up, and still waited about 30 minutes. I waited almost 45 full minutes for something that should be pretty efficient to prepare. I ordered a «SIDE» of yams and cabbage, and to my surprise, the dinner did not come with beans and rice, so my chicken was placed on a massive bedding of yams that were very unappealing. The jerk sauce is absolute rubbish; the worst jerk sauce I’ve ever had. It was diluted and had no kick whatever. The amount of chicken was also very modest compared to most jerk dinners, and was the only eatable portion of the meal(and the bread). There was a surge of people that all entered the restaurant at once, just have a few customers banging on the plexiglass for the cashier because she would disappear periodically. Oh… I can’t forget the endless paper, debris, and flyers on the floor as ‘decoration’. My first instinct was to turn away and go to Royal Caribbean on 71st, which always has quality/authentic jerk dinners. I was closer to this restaurant, but a valuable lesson is to always trust your 1st mind, and never let distance get in the way of quality. I learned the hard way. Do yourself a giant favor, and don’t even think about wasting your time and energy on eating at this place. No customer service values, horrible product, and their advertised Grubhub service is NEVER active.

Definitely wasn’t the best jerk I’ve had, it was kinda bland and the sauce too vinegary with limited heat, I don’t know what’s Goin on with southsiders tastes buds but this place is definitely not the move, jerk villa blows them out the water. I ordered a half chicken dinner with Mac and cheese, I don’t understand how an establishment only provides there customers one slice of bread for all that chicken, I won’t be coming back… oh the 2 lil slices of plantain they give you are delicious, was the best part of the meal

If you were to ask me three years ago to write a recommendation, it would be totally different. To my pleasant surprise the food was much better. There was a lady in the kitchen. If she is the cook, keep her there from now on please. For starters, I had the jerk chicken plate with rice and beans. In the past, the chicken was very dry but this time it was very tender. The rice and beans were excellent. After the first visit, I went back and ordered the curry chicken. The plate was served with plantains and rice and beans. It was delicious! Besides the good food, the place is really clean. I also have some advice that would increase business at the restaurant. *Ambiance-The pictures of Jamaica are nice. It would be nice to add some reggae music to have that island vibe. *Customer service– I know that the restaurant is located in the hood but it would be nice if the person behind the register smiled. Those are the only reasons why I did not give the restaurant 5 stars.

Authentic Jamaican food. fresh and spicy! Everything I get here is tasty. The place is in the hood and not high on my list when it comes to the aesthetics of the décor. The food is the star attraction. It’s a local favorite

Yum! We ordered take out so I cannot say anything about the actual restaurant. Delicious. The chicken was well grilled, tender, juicy and not burned and dry with sauce on top like other places. The peas and rice were also well cooked and supple and not hard and dry. The mac n cheese was a no go though. The delivery guy has a bad rap, but he was polite and funny. Our food was also delivered very quickly. Just over 30 mins or so. Best thing: Ting & beef patties… Oh Lord. Jamaican bread was thick and moist and the jerk sauce was good. We recommend extra sauce for leftovers. Just had another fork full of the peas and rice… Wrote this review right away! Grade: A solid A

The jerk chicken is perfect — not at all dry, well-seasoned, delicious. Rice and beans are perfectly cooked and seasoned, too, as is the wonderful braised cabbage and plantains. Honestly I can’t wait to order again. Best jerk chicken I think I’ve ever had. I ordered a delivery at lunch and it only took about 45 minutes, not bad. I will be back. Again, and again, and again.

Great jerk chicken and amazing steamed cabbage, probably the best in the city. Reasonable price, friendly service. Jim the owner was a waitress at Daley’s restaurant for years and opened up her own place to bring us this delicious food. One of the few black owned businesses in Woodlawn. They cater too!
