When I got married nearly 5 years ago, I promised my husband a wedding present of allergy test. Yes, I really promised this. Over the years, the nature of my allergies has always been speculation for him since I hadn’t had an allergy test in 20 years. Last month, I gave my husband his wedding present. I came here on a referral from my primary physician and went through the scheduling process. I got really lucky and managed to a book a day of testing less than a week later. I knew where Galter Pavilion was after months of walking to Michigan Avenue for my bus back to work when I was pregnant. The Pavilion is nice and packed to the gills with offices, restaurants, and other services. It was eye opening to me to know that there were some good restaurants there since other Northwestern pavilions have less. The check in process for the specialty offices is different. There were three specialties represented on my floor. You wait in line, get processed, and are given a buzzer like at Chili’s. It was different, but highly effective with the amount of people with appointments on this floor alone. When I finally did meet with my new allergist, the rooms are bright and clean. If anything, they’re a little more modern than the Clark Street office I go to for general med stuff. After going through the allergy history, I was subjected to tons of pin pricks of allergens. The allergy test staff were wonderful. When I got lightheaded, they moved me to an inclined chair to feel better. After a few hours of testing plus a visit with the allergist, I knew what allergies I had and which ones were still up in the air. They encouraged me to come back for food challenges on the questionable ones. Overall, I had a great experience at Galter. The building’s packed with people and can be a bit confusing at times. The care I received was fantastic.
