Dear Champion Energy, 2014 was a very busy year in my life as I had several family members in the hospital. I finally sat down and looked at my utilities expenses for the year and noticed that electricity was dramatically higher than 2013. When I looked to see why — it was because my fixed contract had expired in Feb. 2014. I understand that then I move to a variable contract and pricing can go up. That is reasonable, I was not paying attention to that detail. What is completely unreasonable is the price you raised it to. It went from 6.4 to 8.9 in a matter of months. Here is the Comed price in Chicago for 2014 Jan-145.523 Feb-145.523 Mar-145.523 Apr-145.523 May-145.523 Jun-147.596 Jul-147.596 Aug-147.596 Sep-147.665 Oct-147.487 Nov-147.43 Dec-147.43 So each month of 2014, Champion charged me between 1.5 cents and 3 cents above the market price. That resulted in an extra $ 500 or so in charges above market rate. I find that practice to be greedy and shameful. A 61% premium over market rate is abusive and should anger every customer of yours that has the misfortune of not watching their bill every month. You should definitely be able to make a profit, but 61% is beyond acceptable.
