I have been coming here for the last 10 years. I find cmannys to be like another home, the food is homemade, fresh, and delicious. They have a great variety of choices on their menu, not to mention their drinks are phonumeol. Also this is a great place to throw your own party! You’re guaranteed to have a great time whether if it’s for a party or just a dinning experience.

This place has went downhill since I wrote my first review of it. Even though I’m still in the very near vicinity, I will travel further for Mexican food and haven’t set foot here in like a year. Hopefully they will see this and similar reviews, to improve things. My biggest pet peeve here is the guacamole, what a rip off! They insert a ton of lettuce in it to make it seem like it’s more than it is. Since when does guacamole have lettuce in it!!! Then they have the nerve to still charge you like $ 6 bucks for it. For the best, delicious, authentic, freshly made to order guac in the area, go to Fast Burrito down the road on Irving Park! That’s where I go now or the bizzillion other better Mexican places in the Chicago area. In the many times that I patronized this place, I’ve been served bad/too old inconsistent flan, stale breaded steak, and the other food was okay. Sometimes really good(in the beginning), sometimes nothing to rave about(towards the end, idk if they switched cooks/quality control/care or something.) With the vast Mexican food competition I go elsewhere now, even if it’s further/more inconvenient. On the plus side, their restaurant is cute inside — old school décor, with clean, white table cloths and fresh flowers(I think.)

My husband and I have been coming here for years and they are consistently awesome! We ALWAYS get our usual guac, ceviche, chicken flautas and steak tacos. And everything is fantastic, always freshly made and plenty of food! Didn’t get my usual margarita today(recovering from a night of too much alcohol) but has always been refreshing and more importantly, strong. I just wish we live a little bit closer to them so I can get their food more often!

My favorite place for Mexican food. Everything we’ve had has been great. Love the atmosphere. Seems like there’s always a baseball game on(only been during baseball season), the food is solid and often amazing. Everyone’s friendly. The bar has a great feel to it. Highly recommend. From the outside, you might question the decision. Don’t. ;)

Got here about 6:15 on a Saturday.. Menus and drinks and food all came quickly. Water glass was constantly refilled. I was a little concerned about service based on other reviews but they were unfounded. Good was good. Mole was too spicy for me but I’m a wimp with spice. I had the Combinations Mexicano and it was tasty.

This is one of the worst Mexican restaurants I have EVER been to. Not only was there ONE waitress working the ENTIRE joint on a packed Friday night, but when the food FINALLY reached our table, I almost wished it hadn’t. Quite disappointing which is difficult to believe since its really hard to mess up Mexican food. I had the mole and it tasted like the stuff you get from the can, which I could have stayed home and made myself if wanted that. My boyfriend had tacos which were bland and fatty. For the inflated prices, these people should be ashamed of themselves. We live two blocks from here, so we REALLY wanted to love this place, but sadly we will never go here again and now I struggle to wonder how they’ve been open as long as they have. I would rather have gotten in the car and, Dios pardona me, picked up Taco Bell.

C. Manny’s has some of the best Mexican food in Chicago! We go there almost weekly and love it. It’s a great gluten-free Mexican option – just tell them you don’t eat wheat and want corn tortillas for everything. Even if you do eat wheat, try the corn. They’re so soft and delicious, and don’t fall apart like most wheat-free corn tortillas! I only eat meat from ethical farming operations and we’re not sure where C. sources theirs, so I get all vegetarian stuff when we go there. And boy, is it good! We always get our favorite combo: enchiladas verdes with corn tortillas, rajas al queso, and extra hot sauce. Their chile verde sauce is the best I’ve ever had. The margaritas aren’t the best I’ve tried, but they’re still delicious. And the food prices are reasonable. Check them out!

First review here on Unilocal and unfortunately it comes in with bad news. C mannys on irving park«was» the place to go for some great fajitas and pitchers of margaritas at a more then reasonable price. I use to visit this establishment frequently as it was my go to fajita spot so i know the places pros and cons. I gave this place a break due to the service from my previous experience, but gave it another chance last night… So it begins… Walk into the place and immediately greeted, took a table at a booth. Promptly served water with some chips and salsa. chips were hard and taste like they came straight outta a bag. Salsa was more like hot sauce. I like spicy salsa, but this aint salsa. No flavor, no ingredients, just liquid peppers. Ordered an orchata for myself and a mojito for the wife. Knowing the margaritas were the highlight, we werent feeling in the pitcher mode. Shame on us. so a few minutes later out comes the drinks. The mojito came in a nice sized daiquiri glass but to our suprise it was only half full, with most of it being ice. After a swirl of the mint she takes her first sip. judging by her facial impressions, i already knew the disappointment. I go in for a taste myself. spearmint mouthwash… ahh. In no way was this a cocktail. other then the fresh mint, this drink came straight out of a bottle. We give it a another swirl and try, hoping it taste a little more refreshing… nope. Not going happen with this drink. so we put the drink to the side and wait for the waitress. With good intentions, we plan to return the drink and go with the pitcher instead. 5 minutes go by, nothing. 10 minutes, not even eye contact. Now if you ever been to this place, it normally doesn’t have much of a waiting staff. I took into account the lady was pretty much running the other 8 tables alone, taking orders and making all the drinks. I didnt press it, gave her all the time in the world. Id say about 15 minutes into the drink being served and pushed to side, i decided to put it at the very end of the table. Just a better way to gesture the drink wasnt good, instead of flagging her down. She noticed the drink several times during her walks back and forth to the kitchen. After a few trips and another 5 minutes, our impatience grew just a little. She finally makes it back to the table, but before hand makes sure a few other tables were doing well. Special attention was given to another customer sitting at the bar. He seemed to get some pretty fast and attentive service, while we sat back like pheasants. So we inform the waitress of the drink not tasting right, and she informs us that its a premade mojito… our reply, oh thats why it doesnt taste right. She then begins to tell us that all restaurants and bars serve premade mojitos. With such a bold and false statement, my wife decides to chime in with some disagreement. After hearing that most other places do not serve premade drinks, and make mojitos fresh instead, she argues back. Letting it go, she simply takes the drink and walks away. i guess we don’t get our pitcher or anything else… If your still reading this, im gonna cut this story short. Out comes the fajitas. One order of steak, one order of shrimp. so the fajita sauce use to be amazing, now its tomatoe paste. The sizzling pan came with 1 lb of bell peppers and ruffly 4 – 6 pieces of shrimp/steak. With the amount of meat/shrimp we barely got 3 tacos out of the plate. If we wanted another 10 tacos we could have easily made them with all the peppers. The taste overall was mediocre at best. After putting most of the food to the side and throwing the towel down, we just wanted to get out of this place. couldnt do that either. We were once again ignored for another 10 minutes. Right before we were going to just get up as now a unkind gesture to our unhappiness, the rude waitress returns and simply puts the check down. Quick to pay and give her a tip based on her horrible service and unprofessional style we head out. No goodbyes and thank yous for anyone here. i will unfortunately never go back to c mannys nor will i ever mention it in a positive way again. i honesty hope they fire this lady, which i hope isn’t the owner. or close this a $hithole down. Food. 5 outta 10 Drinks… premade mojitos. really? 1 outta 10 Service… 2 outta 10

My coworker, who swears by C-Manny’s, wanted to celebrate her birthday here last night, so a small group of us dined with her. My husband and I arrived by 6:30. We were served chips and salsa immediately. The chips were okay and the salsa, which was salsa roja, was too spicy. Even my husband, who is Nepalese and used to spice, commented that the salsa was way too spicy. Then, we ordered our entrees. I had the Mexican combination plate that came with rice and beans. My favorite item was the tostada. I loved the various colors and its presentation. I also LOVED the beans, which were flavorful. My husband, who is a non-vegetarian Hindu, ordered two chicken tacos. He gave me a taste and they were outstanding. The birthday girl had huachinango, red snapper in English. It came with salsa de mojo, which is usually made from olive oil, garlic, salt, pepper, and lemon or lime juice. This is how my parents make it. The fish was served with French fries that were simply to die for! My husband and I tasted the fries and we were amazed! Three other coworkers had the fajitas and they looked really good. Out of respect for one coworker, none of us had any alcoholic beverages. By 8:30pm, the restaurant was packed and we were ready to leave. I was actually quite pleased to see this. I will be coming back to C-Manny’s soon as I liked the food very much.

I love this place, the food is excellent and very affordable. I recommend and take friends there all the time. I saw the review of someone getting food poisoning in this place, I’ve been to this restaurant many times with friends and family and no one has EVER gotten sick.

Family owned, decent food, but pricey for Mexican. Slow service because they only had 1 waitress also working the bar. The salsa was fantastic, had to get more chips…
