AMA Cafeteria

There are only three reasons I ever eat here:
1. I dined with co-​workers who ate here.
2. I packed my lunch and didn’t want to eat in our office kitchenette.
3. I’ve exhausted the 10 other places I normally eat in and need something «different.»
Notice my reasons didn’t include:
* The amazing array of greasy bulk-​prepared food.
* My enjoyment of walking around with a heavy tray trying to find either a place to sit or the tray drop-​off a mile away.
* The endless people-​watching of 50+ year-​old suburbanites who work for the AMA and probably have been for at least 20+ years.
Seriously, there are times I am the youngest person in a section of the cafeteria. But anyway… back to the food.
Cheap, tasty and… well, cheap.
The most exciting thing this place ever does is taco day. The other days it’s fried fish, turkey burgers… mac n cheese. You get the idea.
Cash only… no credit cards accepted.

Considering that in the winter, this place helps me stay inside is enough for 5 stars. It helps even more that the food here is actually not bad. Sure, there’s a small hint of cafeteria to it, but for the most part, it’s good.
The menu changes often and since it’s AMA’s, nutritional info makes sure you get a healthy meal. The salad bar is large, the deli area is packed with choices and the grill always has a long line (that’s a good thing). My office loves taco and hot dog bar days, as well as sloppy joe Wednesdays.
If you know someone who works here, or work here yourself, check it out for a quick cheap bite. Almost forgot to mention that, the prices… dirt cheap. Try 5 dollars for a whole meal. That’s not bad at all.

I feel like a thief whenever I leave the AMA Cafeteria with a tray full of food. Why? Because most of the time I drop about five dollars, but still manage to have a delicious and generous lunch. I say delicious not just for cafeteria food, but delicious in the grand scheme of all food. If you work in the building and have a chance to eat here, do. It’s a really great value.
