Dr. Gerson is no longer working in this office, but rather is at the Tamjidi Skin Institute near Friendship Heights Metro. It seems that disgruntled people tend to write Unilocal reviews after they get upset, but the hunderds of happy patients don’t always bother — so here I am! Dr. Gerson is sweet and caring as far as beside manner, really knows her stuff(Board Certified after an Ivy league residency), and is great at both cosmetic dermatology and classic medical dermatology. She is great with children and adults alike, and it has been a pleasure seeing her as my doctor for four separate visits now. Highly recommended.

We were referred to Dr. Gerson by our pediatrician. She is no longer with this practice but has joined the Tamjidi Skin Institute. It took us a month to get an appoint, one for myself and one for my 19 yr old daughter. This was the 2nd dermatologist we were consulting for her thinning hair issue because the first turned out to be more focused on cosmetic dermatalogy. We arrived and unfortunately my daughter forgot her medical card. We were told we couldn’t be seen or would have to self pay. After I resisted the business manger was called over and he told us that we could try and call the insurance company and have them fax authorization of coverage. The front desk didn’t tell us this was a possibility. Unfortunately there’s no cell coverage in the office or the hallway, but they weren’t willing to let us use a land line either. After quite some time, when we did obtain all the health care information other than the physical card, and much time on the phone trying to get through they did take us back to a room. We explained the the nurse that if they were to call as a provider they could easily get the authorization and learn that she was actively covered. I understand policies, but sometimes a bit of customer service, patience and help goes a long way. The nurse was the kindest and tried, but the rest, well it was not fun. Then while we waited we tried again and seemed to get through and have someone who was trying to understand what we needed faxed.. . the doctor showed up, she was cold, rude and told me to get off the phone she couldn’t see my daughter till I did. I said I was talking to the insurance company(30 minutes into the call) that they had requested we do, she continued to be unhelpful, and just plain lacking in any empathy and said she would go see other patients. My daughter was crying from frustration and embarrassment, my 6 yr old had been trying to entertain himself. We got up and left. The business manager asked if he could help, wish he had much earlier and I told him if they had just made the call upon our arrival and our acknowledged error, the outcome would have been much better. I would not return here no matter how good Emily Gerson’s diagnostic skills are.. . there’s more to being a good doctor.
