Went here around 645 last night for the wing/rib night. it was kind of lack luster in that department. It took a while for them to refresh the wings and ribs but that’s because every time they put food out people rushed up to empty the bins. The ribs were reeeealllllly good! I will say the bar looked clean. no stray food or mess. The tables were clean and the bathrooms were clean as well as stocked. The food is never out of this world but I enjoyed my dinner for the price. They still had breakfast(eggs, gravy, bacon, pancakes) which I thought was cool because corporate said they won’t have ‘breakfast for dinner’ anymore. The wings they had were 99% drums and the garlic parm sauce could have been saucier. My favorite part of GC is the salad and the selection was awesome. The customer service was good. the server kept our drinks refreshed and tables clear. At one point I asked a man behind the hot food bar if any yeast rolls were coming out because the ones out now were literally hard as a rock. He immediately went into the back and grabbed a fresh tray and served me one; I thought that was nice. This isn’t my favorite location but it serves it’s purpose and I don’t mind driving from Newport News to meet family to eat here.

This must have been the worst decision of my life giving this place a second shot it’s not golden corral but specifically this restaurant I won’t even give it a star sad thing is it used to be a good restaurant but now it’s crap if I ask for well done steak they hand me a piece of burnt crusty meat that is no bigger than the size of my pinkie sad thing is it was the manager who gave me the piece of steak and he had perfect view of all the old food they had out for people to consume I will surely never go back to this restaurant ever again this will be the third try I gave them and they blew it ps I have to give one star so I can post it even though they don’t deserve it

I was hungry and it was late. I went in looking for rotisserie chicken, veggies, salad and their famous rolls. I left sad. The two stars are given for cleanliness, great staff, courteous waiters and renovations. The dining area has been renovated since my last visit in 2014. The buffet has turned into a meat eaters dream. However it is mostly red meat prepared for feasting — hee hee! The fish and sesfood offerings are covered with gooey butter or deep fried definitely not healthy. Unfortunately the meat selections are full of salt and they lack seasonings other than salt and pepper. The veggie selection was either undercooked, salty or prepared with excessive grease and butter. I knew that the Corral focused on quantity not quality and the food bins are full. So that’s the story in a nutshell. Go if your choices are limited or if you are really hungry. Expect great service and food in great quantities.

Not the best experience at all. A party of four should not have to wave down a server to clear away used plates or go the entire dinner without 1 refill of their beverage. It was not very busy at all and it was my daughter’s bday(6th) dinner and she just wanted to hear them sing the happy birthday song. We told the server when we first sat down about the request, 45 minutes later they come to the table but my daughter went to the restroom, 30 minutes after that they still had not come. It was just a let down. I’ve just really gotten to be «over» their buffet. Half of the items are barely warm and it’s just a let down in service. She enjoyed her ice cream but next time we will celebrate some where else.

The Place had an overhaul, food area still needs improvement. My wife walked the buffet and saw nothing that looked appetizing to her. Was too much money for the quality of fiood, had to get refunded and done elsewhere. Hoping this place improves!

Staff was pretty bad, because the lady at the register got an attitude with my party. She was ringing up some of us for sodas when we specifically ordered water. I don’t understand, is it a crime to drink water instead of soda? I prefer it over soda any day! Anyway, the cashier got an attitude when she was confronted. She rolled her eyes, smacked her lips and we had to get a manager to resolve the problem. I don’t think the food tastes as great as the Virginia Beach location. It definitely wasn’t as clean either! I think they need some new management to bring this place together.

Typically, I try to avoid any sort of buffet-style establishment. I have my reasons. The first being, the level of service. Followed by the cleanliness, selection, and quality of the food. When I was in high school, a girlfriend of mine worked at a GC and I remember her telling me that they don’t wash the plates well. They just spray water on them and wipe them off. From that moment on, I could never eat(let alone, think about eating) at GC. When I moved to this area, my manager told me about this one. While it isn’t perfect, this GC is definitely a cut above the rest of them. I’m a drinker. A hardcore drinker. I can guzzle down four glasses of Mountain Dew in one meal without breaking a sweat. I let the server know that ahead of time and told him that I wouldn’t be offended if he brought them to me all at the beginning(ya know, to save him the trouble). He rolled his eyes at me and said he would keep up with my excessive drinking glass by glass. Liar. With every refill, his piercing look of hostility grew. Whatever, dude. I told you from the very beginning. Aside from that, it was ‘meh’ at best. The cabbage was bangin’, green beans were awesome, pasta was so-so, as were the ice cold/rock hard yeast rolls –thus, equating to an über average visit. I forced myself to try their new Cinnamon Dessert Shooter. Now, I regret it. Just don’t do it. Don’t go for the dessert shooter. Stick to the chocolate fountain.

Excellent food for the price. Clean every time I have gone. Great salad bar & veggies and appetizers! Desert bar is plentiful with ice cream to top it off. Cheddar biscuits have been added too.

First of all… I do not care for any buffet style restaurant at all.(I am not a 2 or more plate eater) Soon as I hit the door, it reaks of food(I guess), but it is just not pleasant at all. It just feels like it’s dirty, the air is dirty just scary to me(not a good feeling in other words). This is all my personal opinion(s), because I have friends and family that go here and love it EVERYTIME! Now if you love a buffet, this place may be for you. If it does smell pleasant, I will only eat from the salad bar and use plasticware. The waitstaff, definitely hit or miss here… they are NOTATALL created equal. Proceed with caution… however, some Golden Corrals are better than others. This once I would deem on the lower end of the like scale.

Little rough, especially with kids touching things and putting them back. Lots of big people walking around eating lots of food. Maybe good for the over 300 club, and good for college kids who don’t have a lot of money.

It’s a buffet, meant to provide variety. While it does do that, it would be better if the food was hot. The steaks(supposedly cooked medium) where actually well done. The french fries were hot but grossly undercooked and soggy. One section of the line was overwhelmed with a fish smell worse than a fish market. The overall appearance of the restaurant was dirty. Our«waitress» was extremely nice and attentive. I think the quality of Golden Corral has gone down hill over the years. It will be a long while before I go back to this particular GC.

Buffets serve a valuable purpose to the populous. Some believe it’s there to fill you to your gills on the cheap. I, on the other hand, believe that the buffet is there to provide you with a variety of different foods. I believe in the economy in it all too. I only go to GC when I have no idea of what I want to eat. That’s maybe once a year, by the way. If you invite this sort of restaurant into your rotation, look for some extra LBs to follow and that’s why I limit my visits. On the whole Golden Corral offers a good variety of quality cooked food. The fried chicken and homemade mashed potatoes are two of my favorites. When I need a fix, I head to GC before visiting the Colonel. Veggies = B-; Grilled items = B. Of course, there’s the #10 cans of warmed up or doctored items. You cannot hold that against them, I think. They are nicely done and better than most. The salad bar was good and well stocked. And the desserts were OK. I’d them them both Bs, as well. I’m not sure at times what’s up with the beige vanilla soft serve; had to leave that behind. All in all, the Chesapeake Square GC is clean with great food. I don’t frequent buffets, but GC is one of my favorites.
