When you lose your baby, bed side manners are crucial to your physical and emotional recovery. After some symptoms that gave us cause for concern, we were admitted into the hospital for a ultra sound. The technician performing the ultra sound let us know she would not share with us the results as they needed to come from our doctor. This is pure torture by the way. After waiting to see Dr. Sylla for what felt like forever, but was probably more like 30 minutes, she walked into the room and said«I’m so sorry.“I has to ask for clarification as we hadn’t been given any results. She responded confused with, «Oh, they didn’t tell you?» You’d think they would have a better protocol in place for this… She later offered suggestions for how to proceed. She introduced us to a medicine that would help us pass the fetus. She indicated it would cause some crapping. This was the understatement of the year. I spend two nights in the ER in extreme pain until I finally had surgery. The medicine induces contractions to help pass the fetus. I can handle cramping but full blown contractions for over 48 hours is extreme. To help wit perspective, double doses of Morphine were barely taking the edge off. I’m still in shock we were not given all these details upfront to help with our decision. My final thoughts and feedback for Dr. Sylla are: 1. Improvement on protocol for delivering devastating news 2. Better beside manners for delivering devastating news 3. Provide patients with all the details when presenting them with options. Cramps are not full blown contractions that can last days.
