I was not impressed. The food was greasy and the service was bad. I will not be going back, ever!

Best Spuds I have had in a long time! Warm, friendly staff. Very clean restaurant. Lots of variety on the menu and daily specials.

The Cracker Box is a breakfast and lunch only place that as other reviews have mentioned has that greasy spoon type of «charm». At a greasy spoon you know what you are going to get, nothing unique or creative but consistent with fast service. The charm of the Cracker Box is they pack you in tight, get you in and out as quickly as possible, serve the breakfast staples and the waitress has no time to describe the menu, your either ready to order or she will be back! To add to their charm they are a cash only establishment, no credit cards allowed, and have a sign at the door that makes it clear you cannot bring Starbucks coffee in. So if this is the type of charm you like in a restaurant then you will definitely enjoy the Cracker Box. We came for breakfast and ordered OJ, coffee, blueberry french toast and a spinach, feta omelette. The food was good and the OJ amazingly delicious. The OJ was fresh squeezed and was the best part of the meal but did not think their coffee was anything special or better then Starbucks! I also felt $ 9 for 2 pieces of french toast was a bit steep. The french toast was good but was not unique or special. Also they do not have a kids menu which I tend to view as either a decision to not attract families with children, or a profit driven decision since you have to order a full size meal although only ¼ of it can be eaten! So due to this, that the charm they offer is not what I personally find enjoyable, and with all the great or new breakfast restaurants in CC, not sure would return to the Cracker Box.

I’m not sure what all the hub-bub is about, its only a breakfast/lunch spot. The table on top of each other, the service is fair at best and if you’re at the counter, you may never want to eat there again after watching how the food is treated and touched. Breakfast is breakfast, its not very difficult and the menu is basic. Not my kind of lunch place either, can’t have a conversation without 5 other tables listening to you. Additionally only soft beverages are served, the whole cash thing is annoying in todays world. I suppose the IRS is on to them by now as well. I can’t dine at this location after I witnessed the owner at another local restaurant trying to negotiate a lower price for an appetizer, I mean really? Me thinks it’s way over rated for poor service and sitting on top of each other.

No complaints! Excellent food. Fresh squeezed OJ. Delicious home made hashbrowns. YUMMM. I had the chorizo special. My wife had the spinach and bacon omelette. Kids had pancakes. Great meal!

First of all, be aware that they take cash only and no credit cards. We have lived in the Gardnerville for over 10 years and had heard of this place but never tried it. We were surprised that the inside is actually bigger than it looks from the outside. The service was great. As for the food, my husband’s omelet was pretty good. I couldn’t decide between 2 things and asked the waitress. I went with the tuna melt which she said was her favorite. Honestly, it not the best I’ve had. It was a bit overly greasy and it had a bit of a fishy taste. I know it’s tuna but if you are a tuna melt lover, you know what I mean. With that being said, we are definitely going to give it another.

Great overall service, food, and experience. Breakfast costs are very reasonable… My cinnamon apple french toast was $ 6.75…other favorites were the flap jack sandwich(between $ 8 – 10) and chorizo. Pretty big portions… enough so that you can skip lunch if you need to. :) Definitely an old diner type feel… You can see everything being made and your coffee never runs out… check it out if you’re from out of town, or if your local!

Absolutely best place in Carson to get breakfast. They have awesome weekly specials and if you are a pancake lover, you will love this place! Some special pancakes I’ve had include: Peanut butter chocolate chip, lemon ricotta, cinnamon roll, key lime pie, and cinnamon apple, delicious and creative! I always have to get their hash & eggs too, as the corned beef hash is house made and not from a can. The servers are genuinely nice, and the coffee is great. If you don’t mind being seated in a close neighborly fashion, this place is well worth it! P. S. Don’t forget to bring cash & keep your Starbucks in the car ;).

Have been in a few times. The food is always great, but we aren’t crazy about the atmosphere and the servers can be really RUDE for some reason. You’re working for a tip, so be NICE. Also, we had stopped at Starbucks in Dayton for coffee because it was God-awful early and I had a little left, so I brought it with me. Sign on the door says you can’t take it in!!! Seriously??? Ok. No more chances. We won’t be back. Oh. Cash or check only. Huh? Check??? What’s that??? Haha ;)

What a super charming place! Five stars for the awesome staff, all of whom appear to be local high school or college age kids. They work together so well, and it’s so enjoyable to watch them and experience the fun they’re having and the efficiency they bring to this business. The food is diner style with a large dose of homemade goodness. There is this enormous juicer sitting on the counter where halved oranges go in to become incredibly delicious fresh juice. The quality of ingredients is very good — I can say that confidently because I sat at the counter about 2 feet away from the grill cooks, watching them make several different dishes to mouth-watering perfection. Their pancakes are bigger than your head, and look AMAZING. The burgers are thick and juicy and looked so good as they were being grilled. Definitely stop in here for breakfast or lunch, you will NOT be disappointed!

This place can get busy fast but I almost always beat the rush so it’s not a problem. Every weekend I come for the special pancake of the week. I’m not a breakfast person but the special pancakes I love. The flavors have been peppermint hot chocolate, peanut butter chcocate chip, red velvet, cinnamon roll, cranberry orange, key lime and pumpkin. The pumpkin wasn’t very good. It was very moist and nearly wet. They only had this around autumn though so I wouldn’t expect for it to come around anytime soon. I check their Facebook page to see what the pancake of the the week is so I know when to come in.

I’ve been here a few times and never left satisfied. First off their menu is so simple. Everything on there the average person could make at home. I go out to eat in order to get food that I can’t make at home. First time I was there I made the mistake of ordering their french toast. It was the worst french toast I’ve ever tasted. I think they made it with sour dough bread, it was not good. The second time I went with an even more simple dish, I got bacon eggs and potatoes. It wasn’t bad, but that’s a dish that’s almost impossible to mess up. I don’t like paying so much for something I could easily make myself. Another thing I did not like about the restaurant was how crowded it is. It’s a tiny little building crammed with tables. I honestly don’t know how over weight people are able to move around in there. It’s uncomfortable, it’s like sitting with strangers while you eat. I disliked the entire experience both times I went. I will definitely never be spending my money here again.

in my many years of traveling to carson city for job or hot spring, i have passed this curious little corner greasy spoon on highway 50 just east of the main drag through carson. i could see a counter and the place always seemed busy. I knew some day i would visit. that someday came on a spur of the moment monday after soaking in the wonderful carson hot springs. i entered with trepidation and anticipation. would my expectations be fulfilled? i had my doubts. though there are good places to eat all over the planet, my experience with small town/city culture has been decidedly mixed. my doubts were put to rest immediately. the place was packed, the waitress immediately attentive, the cooks just a few feet away busy preparing basic but good looking food. when a restaurant puts its line so close for the customer to see, i know that is a good sign. they are hiding nothing. i had the half sandwich and soup special. the soup was homemade clam chowder and it was delicious and filling. the tuna salad sandwich was better than i would have expected. I looked around at the packed restaurant and happy customers and realized the cracker box must be doing something right as they have been at the same location since 1983. Every city should have a place this cool. I will return with friends soon.

With the hoards of hungry people piling into this place, it seemed like a safe choice for breakfast. And it was just that… a safe choice, a tasty diner breakfast with no frills. I had two complaints – their cash-only policy and mediocre coffee – but otherwise we left full and happy. Husband ordered the Hash Special, and I had the Linguica Omelette, but the only real standout of the meal was the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes that Kid ordered off the specials board. They were really delicious, and definitely a dish worth returning for. Other than that our breakfasts were pretty straightforward and the service efficient but not noteworthy. The best thing about this restaurant is the authentic old diner experience that is becoming more and more difficult to find.

This diner is «Crazy Good»! I’m a breakfast guy and consider it my favorite meal of the day. The Cracker Box was probably the most intensely flavored breakfast experience I have had in a while. However, I was a rooky here as I questioned the very professional waitress regarding the status of my glass of orange juice. I was schooled with a facial expression much like the John Belushi«one eye effect» as she prepared to fresh squeeze my order into a glass. It was then that I felt like a complete dip-shit! Thankfully she holds no grudge and blew it off as our impeccably delicious breakfast was served at the counter. Yes at the counter, the best seats in the house! This was a fun diner experience as my sweetie-pie & I savored every friken minute!

«This place must be killing it,» remarked the gentleman sitting at the table next to us on a Sunday morning around 9:00 am. We had a 15-minute wait when we first came in — but well worth it. We were all packed in there like sardines — this place is pretty compact — but the food was generously portioned and for 2 big platters of food, the total came out to be $ 23 plus tip. During the short wait for our food, we watched an endless stream of diners march in and out, waitresses making a parade of freshly squeezed orange juice and the restaurant staff scurrying around to keep the tables bussed, cleaned and the turnaround as quickly as possible. I ordered the 2 eggs over easy with sourdough bread(yummy!), breakfast potatoes and linguica, a type of Portuguese sausage I wanted to try. My friend Nicole got big old platter of huge buttermilk pancakes, a side of the breakfast potatoes and a giant chocolate milk. One-year-old John ate a little bit of everything on our plates and gave it a thumbs up.

Great little throwback greasy spoon — it’s literally a tiny box of a building sitting on the street corner. Once inside, it’s all black-and-white tile & vinyl booths, with a menu to match, eggs & pancakes & other old-school breakfast fare. The sandwiches are supposed to be good, too, but I never ventured away from the breakfast chow. I ordered the potatoes(homestyle, FTW) with sausage gravy, and that could have been a meal just by itself… there is a TON of sausage in that gravy! Cash only, don’t try to use your debit card here, but there’s an ATM by the door. It gets crowded on the weekend, but well worth the wait.

When it comes to greasy spoons the exterior of this places epitomizes it, but once you walk through the doors and see the clean white counters and tables, and watch the staff hustle around the room to serve the guests occupying every seat in the house, you know they must be doing something different! And it turns out they’ve been doing that something for years. This past Saturday a buddy and I were coming home from Dayton and needed food in a fierce way! We hit Unilocal and it lead us here. The specials board immediately caught my eye… Homemade Hash and Eggs, Crab Cake Benedict, and Triple B Sandwich(found out was Bacon, Basil, and Butternut Squash!), amongst others, all sounded delicious and interesting. After watching the guys sling amazing looking breakfasts from the griddle and a quick look at the menu, I ordered the linguisa, tomato, scallion and cheese omelette, and my friend had the hash special, both served with choice of toast and their house potatoes(which we ordered extra crispy). The omelette was huge and full of big pieces of linguisa, lots of cheese, and tasty veggies, and the potatoes came perfectly done with onions, peppers, and tomatoes mixed in. My buddy said the hash was great too, and the over easy eggs he ordered were perfectly cooked as well. The only slight complaint we had between ourselves was the food could use a bit more seasoning, but there was S&P and hot sauce on the counter, so we were good. We saw other Unilocalers giving this place low ratings, and after our experience, we didn’t understand why. I think if you go in with the right expectations, this place will deliver in full. The servers are friendly, the place is clean, and the food is tasty. I guess we can only vouch for breakfast, but I wouldn’t hesitate to try it again for lunch.
