Paul and his team did removed a wall, framed french doors, and cut my fireplace mantel. I am happy with the work, and even more impressed by the way they worked with me. Paul showed up on time, answered emails and texts, and was flexible to my mid job requests. I will use him again in the future.

I live in Texas and own a 30-year old rental house in San Diego County. About 10 months ago I needed to find someone I could completely trust to repair a few items at my rental house. Paul came highly recommended from a Realtor so I gave Paul a call. He provided a timely estimate with a reasonable start date. He also works on bigger projects, and my jobs were smaller, so I was glad to see that he could fit them in between his bigger projects. My repairs included adding a sliding lock to the front door, adjusting the patio door, installing new screens, fixing window locks, installing a granite bathroom vanity top and faucets, and repairing some outlets. Paul was patient with me in picking out the granite and faucets, which is not easy long distance. He also made a wise recommendation that saved me some money. Paul did an excellent job and my tenant was very pleased. A couple of months ago, my tenant had a few more things to repair. I called Paul again and I had the same excellent experience. I have been very happy with Paul’s estimates, turn around time, reliability and workmanship. I would definitely hire him again.

So I guess I am the tie breaker. No Paul did not bring a dog to my house. Paul and his team were punctual. So my experience with Paul… I actually saw Paul at a red light on Mission Ave in Oceanside. I needed some carpentry work done so I lowered the window and asked his son for a business card. I gave Paul a call and we set up an appointment. My project for him was to design, build and install a two tiered display case with sliding glass doors in our kitchen dining room. The case was to be used for my wife to display her collection of 30 plus unique Starbucks coffee cups she has collected from a cross the country, and around the world. Paul had the design done the very next day. We approved the drawings and off they went to get the materials. the following day they built, and stained the wood to match our kitchen cabinets. The match was perfect. They installed the case and the wife was putting cups on display that evening. Paul and his team were professional, and courteous. They ensured that the kitchen and the dining area was cleaner than when they started the work. Also the drive way area they used to cut, build, and stain the wood was spotless. In the future if I have a woodworking project, I will be sure to contact Paul and his team again.

My wife and I hired Paul to remove a fireplace and a non-load bearing wall, in order to open up our floorplan(who needs a fireplace in Southern California?). It was not a particularly difficult job, and I was contemplating doing most of it myself as other bids came up a little too high for our budget. But Paul came in with a very competitive price, and he assured us that he could start the job in about a week and have it completed in 3 – 4 days(other contractors speculated 1 – 2 weeks would be needed). Exactly one week later, as promised, Paul and his crew showed up. They got the job done in 3 days, like he said, and I appreciated how quickly he worked. The project involved demolition and haul-away, capping a gas line, moving an electrical outlet and a light switch, hanging drywall(both wall and ceiling), mudding the drywall and painting. All of it was done to our complete satisfaction. I’m glad I hired Paul Merrick Construction, and if we have any more home projects come up, Paul will be the first person we call.

One thing I’ve learned when having someone work on my house is that things can change and often do. But the key is having someone that is willing to work around changes and end up giving you something better than you could have expected. Paul Merrick Construction gives you both! Plus he is nice, honest and seems to always be in a good mood.

Paul was an ok contractor. Admittedly, I do not have a lot of experience with this sort of thing. He was recommended by a friend who is a real estate agent and used him for one of her rentals. He came by and gave me an estimate to redo our laundry room. When he was here for the estimate I asked are you: 1) clean 2) timely Paul answered yes to both. I decided to go with Paul. He seemed nice enough and the estimate was within what i wanted to pay. Flash forward 1 week. He is supposed to show up on Wednesday. I get a call Wednesday MORNING that he can’t make it until Thursday. This was the first red flag, but all he was doing was dry walling the laundry room and redoing the floors. So I figured this was only going to be a day delay. Here comes Thursday morning. He was supposed to be at my house at 9 am. He didn’t show up until 10:30. Oh, hi! Glad you could fit my scheduled project into your schedule. Then, the estimate goes up by 2 times once he saw what was under our walls. ALL in labor. We reluctantly paid it because we needed this work done! The laundry room looks good but it wasn’t done until Wednesday night. He was working really slowly until Wednesday when he started busting his butt. Pretty annoying… our space was only 60 square feet. I know it had its issues, but really 4 days?(I say 4 because he was hardly here on Thursday). Things to note. 1) He brings his dog to work with him. Even if I didn’t like dogs, I would have not been ok with him leaving his dog in the car… during the summer… in San Diego. I let the dog run around my backyard because I felt bad(totally my fault). 2) He is LATE… ALLTHETIME. BYHOURS. 3) He was not clean… our house was COVERED in dust after he was done. I know you can attempt to lower the dust amount by plasticing off areas you are working on. This was upsetting. We had the cleaning lady in the day after he left. I am not going to use Paul again. He was really nice, but unfortunately not at all professional. I need both in someone I let into my house.
