Franck and Maryline have been my hairdressers for many years now. When I first went to Franck for a new hairstyle back at the Jose Eber salon in the 4 Seasons, Franck told me that «Your hair is 911!» So I turned it over to the hands of the pro and VOILA! I actually had someone ask me if I had gotten a facelift! Can you imagine? His wife, Maryline, is an incredible pro when it comes to color and the artist, Franck, finishes it off with superb styling for your face shape and lifestyle. Professionally trained in Paris, France, you can’t go wrong!

My son went from long shoulder length hair to a modern short style. I was horribly nervous and all of the staff reassured me that it was going to be fine. Our last attempt to have him go short was 4+ years ago where they left us both in tears. This was not that type of experience here at Franck H, they were patient and most importantly Page was a perfectionist and made sure she took her time and the cut was amazing. I sat there watching them all work and while Franck and Page were working they looked like passionate artists.
I look forward to returning. even if it means we drive from Phoenix– this will be our excuse to go to CA when we need a trim :) Thank you all for help making a SUPER nervous mom feel great! Lets not mention my handsome son who walked out looking like a Million Bucks :)

I’ve been going to high end celebrity Salons in LA for my last series of hair cuts (trims) and they never cut it to me straight like Franck did. My ends needed major overhaul and a proper haircut which was the harsh reality that Franck mentioned would need to happen for me to see balance and connect my series of unfortunate hair cuts… So I went for it and he had to take some length off to make the haircut have a real shape. I’m very happy with how much life was put back in these locks! Franck is very precise and will give you the best advice vs. keeping you coming back every 10 – 12 wks for upkeep. The best part is they were right in my backyard in Cardiff! Will definitely be back in 3 – 4 months for another hair cut :)

After going to about 6 different salons, I finally settled in and found somewhere that feels like home. My mother moved herself and my older sister to this salon after her old stylist dyed her hair black from a light chestnut and my sister got inch long bangs that she defiantly did not ask for. After their wonderful experiences at Franck’s I made the easy choice to move. As soon as I came in for my appointment I was greeted by a beautiful young woman who knew my name and was eager to seat me, get me a robe, and was asking if I needed anything else. I was then greeted by Paige, who is a young woman who seemed to know exactly what I needed. She told me that my old stylist had cut my hair on a big slant, and that she was going to have to cut off slightly more than I would have liked (about 3 inches for evening and split ends). I was hesitant, but she assured me it would be great. She was right. Right off the bat I got my hair washed with very high quality Moroccan Oil products, and got a nice scalp massage to go with it. The cut was fast and easy, and when Paige blew it out I found that it was exactly what I needed. My hair was suddenly so much softer and healthier, no longer fried at the ends. While I waited for my sister to get her hair dyed and cut (she only made the appointment for the dye but they had Paige cut her hair instead of making her come back the next day, which was outrageously polite and wonderful), they still treated me extremely nicely, getting me more water, and having conversations with me. All the women were raving over how pretty my hair color was and saying I had naturally gorgeous hair, making me feel even more at home in the salon. The ambiance is clean and inviting, playing good music at a good volume. Terrific experience

I just moved here from San Francisco and was so happy to find Franck and Marilyn! They are an amazing team Marilyn does my color and Franck does my cut… Franck gets my edgy style and fixed my hair to suit my personality… And he just did an ombré on me that I just LOVE!!! I feel like I just hit the jackpot by finding them!

After a long search in the San Diego area my spouse and I finally found the place for us – best hair cuts ever. Franck is truly talented as is Maryline, his wife, who is a «colorist extraordinaire». The whole team is very nice, professional, and the salon is very clean with a pleasant, comfortable ambiance.

My long journey to hair happiness has ended at Franck Hair Salon (it’s all about the hair!) The day I came for my first visit, Franck told it to me straight and gave me the recommendation for my blond, short curly hair: It’s over processed and beginning to show damage from too much foil highlighting AND the wrong color for my eye and skin color… WOW!!! (Oh no… not bye, bye to my blond hair!)
He recommended we cut a lot off to just to start the makeover process and not drag it out over several hair cuts. I decided to go for it. I knew I was in great hands. His confidence and experience in the art of hair is palpable. And you feel relief that someone finally has a vision of you at your best, with the health of your hair in mind and your natural coloring.
It gets better. Franck’s other half is Maryline and she’s the colorist at the salon. She’s a pro at the art of balayage hair coloring. Franck had Maryline join in on my consultation that first day and she said the exact same thing as Franck. I needed to go darker and more caramel with the color. We could still do blond highlights (phew!) in the bayalage style which is much easier on the health of your hair and looks so much more natural than foils.
Yay, one year later working with both Franck and Maryline I’m VERY happy with the results and my hair has never been healthier. I also work with Paige for haircuts when I can’t get in with Franck. She does an excellent job, great haircuts. The last 2 on the team at the salon are Audrey and Melissa. They are fun, welcoming and very helpful.
I really feel at home at this salon and well taken care of, the whole team sets a great vibe. The bonus to it all is that I do not need to get my cut or color as often because the work they do lasts a lot longer.

Franck is the best guy in town. He is pricey, but if you need a million dollar haircut he is your guy.

I FINALLY found my stylist and a salon I can call home. It only took me several years and countless bad haircuts until finally getting a referral from a neighbor of mine, whose hair I adore. The salon is an unpretentious, stylish, relaxed setting, the music volume is just right (allows me to enjoy the atmosphere and hear myself think) Everyone I dealt with there was a pleasure. I dealt mostly with Audrey and Franck.
Let’s just say that Franck is a true artist. He assessed the damage from the previous stylist (on a SHORT cut) and set realistic goals for what he could do now with the hair and later if we let it grow a touch longer. He created a shape perfect for my face with a super short cut. I walked out feeling 100% better and thrilled with my hair. It is something between a Halle Berry /​Michelle Williams short cut. I could have kissed him thank you! Watching him work is just as wonderful as the finished look on your head! He gets completely into a zone, almost like a subtle dance around the chair, as he creates. A couple weeks out from my cut, it is looking beautiful, styled, is easy to manage and I have received countless compliments from strangers. Thank you, Franck. You are brilliant!!! If only I had found you sooner, but at least now I am truly in an expert’s hands.

I purchase my hair care products regularly from this salon. recently I purchased a new (for me) product and found that it wasn’t a good fit for my hair. I went to the salon to exchange the product for the regular one I use and they refused to exchange it, basically they do not guarantee their products and told me «What will we do with this product that has already been open»! I find is surprising that this business was willing to loose a loyal retail customer instead of taking back an open bottle contacting their rep or distributor and exchanging from them. So Im off to take my business somewhere else.

I can’t bring myself to go to anyone else, I love Paige, who started cutting my hair 3 yrs. ago for training. My hair is longer and is healthier now. This salon really emphasizes a natural look and I can never go anywhere else. Ask for the curly blowout, it’s my favorite.

I will never go anywhere else again. My highlights have never looked so natural or lasted so long (thank you Marilene, and my apologies if I’ve misspelled your name).
My husband and I both get our hair cut from Paige and we love her. So sweet, so professional and above all else, makes us look good so we don’t have to. :) I searched for months in Encinitas and Cardiff for the perfect salon and have finally found it.

Got a gift certificate for this place in my Xmas stocking and couldn’t wait to try it.

I just LOVE the vibe of this place. Very professional and clean. Both Franck (who does the cut) and his wife (who does the color) did a consult before doing anything… although neither asked what I wanted. They told me what I needed… and I loved that!
I am top-​heavy, and have very curly hair. It was an absolute pleasure to have someone tell me WHY my existing cut and color weren’t right for me. They banished my highlights, which had apparently been making my hair look more dry and frizzy than it is, for a warm chocolate color. Looks PERFECT with my skin tone and really brings out my eyes. I didn’t realize how washed up I had looked!!!
The cut Franck gave me has gotten better with each passing day. He lopped off a good four inches of my hair, but it needed it. I walked in looking like Rosanna Rosanna Danna, and walked out looking… good.
I’ve washed my hair twice since going there. The color has not washed out AT ALL, and my hair looks a ton healthier and is hanging very naturally with no additional styling.
I am DELIGHTED with this place. Owned by really wonderful and sweet folks who are excellent at what they do.

Why would a guy pay $$$$ for a haircut at a place called Franck HS? Because it’s literally all I have to do to my hair for months, other than wash it (here and there). I told Franck my desired style (business messy), my styling regimen (none) and my preferred haircut frequency (as infrequent as possible) and he gave me a cut that met all of those needs. Why pay $$$ or even $$ or $ for a haircut that starts off mediocre and gets worse from there. It’s not about cost, it’s about value.

Franck began learning his trade at 15 yrs. old in his native France. Just like the best athletic coaches, his start off point is incorporating what comes naturally to you (as it relates to your hair). He’s very attractive and stylish, so I can’t resist fishing for compliments — very respectfully though — that’s his beautiful wife doing the coloring. In response, he’ll kindly deny that my face is a hideous square shape, then use all his considerable artistry to impart the illusion of a more pleasing oval.
I first found him at Jose Eber, so now that he’s bypassed the middle man, there’s a price break. Still, I can only afford a full cut twice a year, and in the meantime he’s perfectly welcoming when I come in for a free bangs trim. I have «cheated» by getting a trim at a cheap place, but beyond the more luxurious experience, there’s the confidence Franck conveys in the economy of his scissors work.
His assistants throw in a head massage while they shampoo you, but I’ve had to ask them to stop because I’m such a pressure wimp that I thought she bruised a blood vessel in my temple one time!
You probably won’t be able to walk-​in, so make an appt. (Tue.-Sat., closed Sun.-Mon.). You’ll come away feeling gorgeous!

Franck Houdin is the owner and primary stylist of this boutique hair salon. He has cutting edge style and years of experience styling hair in Europe and the US.
While staying at the Four Seasons I stopped into Jose Eber to get a cut. My stylist that day was Franck. Now some 6 years later Franck is out on his own. He still cuts my hair every 6 weeks and I swear before the living God that the man has NEVER given me a haircut that I didn’t like.
Go there to feel special. Go there because you want more than just to be the next person in the chair. Go there because they are good.
