This place is now CLOSED, according to other Unilocalers and the Canby Herald Facebook page. It is unfortunate, because Canby is such a cute town and would seem to be just the kind of place that could/should support an independent coffee shop like this in the heart of downtown. Once the owners switched away from Water Ave. Coffee a year ago, I knew it was the beginning of the end. I sincerely hope a decent place can come in and serve something besides Starbucks, like Stumptown, Water Ave., Heart, Ristretto, or anything else good from Portland. There is tons of opportunity in the mid-valley.

I liked the atmosphere. Cute little shop and the service was excellent. Food wasn’t great though. Pretty expensive and small portions. I ordered a tuna sandwich and it was just okay, it was as good as one I could make at home. It was tiny though. My mother ordered the special which was a turkey sandwich, she wanted it on gluten free bread, they let us know it would be extra then asked us 2 more times to check that was indeed the bread she wanted. I ordered hot chocolate too, it was pretty good.

Great place for a cup of coffee and some chill time during the day, and they also have some fun evening activities too. I just went to one of their paint night events and had a great time. We had a few glasses of wine while we painted and they have a really nice selection of salads sandwiches and desserts.

Cozy coffee corner with good wifi and live local music at times. Just a bit noisy.

This a cool coffee place and café in downtown Canby. I happened across it when I was in town for a job interview. The breakfast panini was delicious and the service was great. I hope to return and bring my family so they can enjoy the play area near the back.

A cute place that is an oasis within Canby. The drinks are quite good and the sandwiches were decent. The éclair was gross but the chocolate muffin was pretty alright. We loved the general ambience of the place and the very friendly people working there.

I have been visiting the Place to Be Café several times a week for a few months now. I love the atmosphere. It is always very clean, well decorated and cozy. The staff is awesome and I appreciate the two staff members who always remember my name… a nice touch for a small town coffee shop. The best part about this place is their coffee. It is always great. Every staff member on the bar is consistent. They have great food and pastries as well. I would highly recommend this place over all other coffee establishments in Canby.

I came down to work at this café before a wedding rehearsal dinner. Its a wide open space, well air-conditioned which includes tables and couches. I sat in the back near the play area which was plastered with«Love the Lord» signs… a far cry from DTPDX coffee shops. The coffee was ok, the macaroon I had was very dry and stale.

What a great unexpected place in Canby OR! I was here for business & needed to do some work & get food/coffee in me to keep going. Amazing food, drinks & ascetically pleasing. Thanks for a great experience on a very hot stressful day for me.

This is a good place to have some short-order healthy food with a family atmosphere. Prices are good. It’s right on the«main drag»(off the highway) of a very lovely small town. The street it’s on has a lot to offer and is worth a stroll.

This place is so cute and has a great vibe! I’m from out of state, but my grandma lives in Canby so I make it a point to visit here every time I’m in town! They have a great selection of healthy food and drinks made with organic ingredients etc. Today I had the Veggie Chia Chai, and it was delicious!(Love the name, too!) My favorite drink so far.

Love this place and it is such a cool atmosphere! You can relax and grab a cup of coffee, have desert or a sandwich salad combo too. My hubby and I like to go on saturdays and drink mochas while we play chess on the giant chess board.

Add a star to this review if The Place to Be isn’t busy – if that’s the case, you’re in for a treat, and the service will be fine. However, if they are even half-full with customers, the service begins to fall away because the counter intelligence gets stressed, rushed, and ineffective. In that case, depending on who you are, take a star away. For me, I look to see how full this place is first, and make my decision about going in or driving away because I really don’t like their Grover(from Sesame Street) approach to taking orders and delivering food. Can’t recall Grover taking orders at a Speedy Pizza? But let’s pretend it’s a calm day, which is usually is. The atmosphere is pitch perfect with lots of micro spaces to sit – I’ve been here with my lacrosse team in a bigger space: perfect. I’ve been here to study: perfect. I’ve been here for professional meetings: perfect. Flexible, user-friendly space with trusty, free wifi. I’m less of a fan of the food, but I come here for coffee and tea. And now that they serve wine and beer and have a space of singers and readings, I predict that I’ll be a fan of evenings here. The food seems fine when I’ve been with friends who eat here – soups, salads, sandwiches. Major food allergies keep me from eating most of their offerings, so I can’t review the food. Most of it seems to be stuff I can easily make at home, sans the allergens. Mostly, it’s been a pleasure to watch The Place to Be morph into a wonderful meeting place for a variety of needs for Canby over the last three years. It’s peaceful here, and the opportunity to gather here in the evening for desserts, live music and conversation is most welcomed in Canby.

Haven’t found anything this café doesn’t do well. Coffees are good, menu is full of good options and there is plenty of space for friends to gather, kids to play, and people to plug in to free wifi and get work done. Truly the place to be in Canby!

Great people. Love the mason jars. Wide variety of beverages, snacks, meals, and other yummy food. Clean. Friendly. Great music. Just an awesome atmosphere to be in. Good for doing homework, reading the word, and just hanging with friends. A Place To Be is full of wonderful details and if I lived closer I’d be there more often.(:

Downtown Turkey panini is soooo good. Every time I come in I get it. Coffee is great too. And I like how they have other milk options like almond milk. And now they have beer taps yuuuuum. This is definitely a good place if you want a beer, panini, and some live music.

Love to go here as an after school treat with my teenage daughter sometimes. The everything bagels are our favorite! Toasted with cream cheese! The staff is very friendly and the coffee is delicious. They often have live music and events going on but I haven’t had a chance to check them out yet. The atmosphere is the best. Lots of places to sit, tables, chairs, couches. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that often times it takes a little long to get a specialty coffee.

Came to the Place to Be Café after running in a 10K with a friend of mine. I wanted to treat him as well as Sue to a meal for driving and cheering respectively. This was a short walk from the park where the run started and ended. I was hoping for a sit down place, but that is not the case here. Not that you can’t sit down of course. You just have to order at the counter first. The breakfast food here looked pretty good. Bagels and Pannini’s and such. Most everything was around $ 5. I had a bagel sandwich with eggs, cheese and meat. Don’t remember what it was. It was decent. The bagel wasn’t anything to write home(or to Unilocal) about. More of a roll and less of a bagel. Not that it was bad or anything. It was just A-Ok. Seemed like a comfortable environment. I believe they had a small stage towards the back which means they probably do live music. That is never a bad thing.
