Despite the mixed reviews, we decided to try this out. As others have said, the building is old and the inside is dark. It is not a clean restaurant — the carpets were filthy, as were the tops of the jars holding the wasabi and ginger. If that’s what it looks like where guests can see it, it makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like. Absolutely the worst service I have ever experienced. It was not busy and there were servers all over the place. Took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Server was not knowledgeable about the menu. The food itself was average at best, and terrible at its worst the goyza dumplings were good as was the veggie tempura. The sushi itself was not good. The spicy tuna rolls were warm and the Alaskan roll had too much cream cheese vs. Salmon. I appreciate that there are not many choices for sushi in Cape Coral, but I would not recommend this place. I will not be back.

20 minute wait. Waitress took our drink order and then forgot about us for another 15 minutes. I had to grab her attention to put my food order in and she apologized because she knew she had forgotten. Food was good. Found a ROACH in a sweet tea. Cup was taken away and waitress didn’t mention it after that. A refill wasn’t even given and NOTHING was comped off the bill. Was told the«owner» will have to decide whether something would be done. How about I call the health department? The restaurant was closed the week before our visit for«repairs» but I’m starting to think that it was for extermination. This visit was 3 weeks ago and one week ago I emailed the owner because we tried to contact the owner through mutual friends but we still didn’t hear from anyone. I emailed the owner a week ago and have not heard from him yet. HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICE. I have been visiting this sushi joint for years and have never had a problem until now. I will not be going to Sakura ever again.

I wish I could give a good rating. We waited an hour an a half. When we checked back with the hostess, she said she had called us. Not true, we were 10 ft away from her a all times. At least they could have made it right, guess customer service is not that important to them. Sironara

Oh my gosh. We just watched a hibachi person come and grab a beer out of the cooler, and complain about a table he was helping. We should probably leave now, but we are hungry and not willing got give up the 30 we have already waited. Our favorite spot is being remodeled, so we are giving this a shot. It’s really dark, and I’m questioning our judgement. Our waitress is very friendly and helpful. The couples next to us is new to the hibachi experience and she was knowledgeable during their ordering(they also have a small child). The waitress is the one of two reasons this place is getting even two stars. The sake is the other. Just updated to three stars. The hibachi chef told us that he is having a hard time keeping help. All things we didn’t need to know but definitely made me slightly more forgiving. He really seemed to back up the business. All in all professionalism was low but food was great.

Ok the food was good, the waitress try really hard. Here is the down side, under staffed, horrible hostesses as far as seating goes. We stood and waited for 15 min while I looked at 4 open tables and no one was being seated, one hibachi grill was empty and not bussed. Then we get told they are putting tables together for our party of 7, then we get seated at the table that was available when we walked in and waited now 25 min for. O and it wasn’t crowded, they really need to up there service before I go back. And I have been there twice. They are getting 2 stars only because the food was good, now that we were starving.

I swore I would never come back to this place after seeing a live cockroach crawl across the table during my meal. The manager said that this was due to a recent pest control treatment and offered me 10% off of my bill. I wasn’t sure if I should be more offended at the offer or at the fact that their marketing guy and his family, who were sitting at out table, got their meal for free. The other highly reviewed Japanese restaurant in this area is closed for renovations, so here we are at Sakura. Right off the bat, it looks like nothing has changed. The hostess was sitting at the bar chatting as a steady stream of people came in and were waiting to be seated. The restaurant is dark, the music obnoxious, and the carpet is old and sticky. Can’t wait until Kumo opens back up. Sakura could take a lesson from them and do some renovations.

Not really sure how this place has managed to get as high reviews as it has. We were down visiting family in Cape Coral and it has been a part of our ritual that whenever we visit we go to a local sushi spot. However, unfortunately our staple location is closed for renovations, so we began a search for somewhere else that could stand in for this visit. Boy, I should have read the reviews more closely than I did, as this was definitely not the right choice for us. Let me start with the atmosphere… It is very dark and the place is bar centric(not sushi bar, but libations-wise). It smelled of burnt oil, but nothing that would be abnormal for a hibachi grill. Located in a declining strip mall, we all decided to overlook the problems that Sakura had in anticipation of dinner as we woke up at 3AM to fly in at 6, and by that evening were all very hungry and very excited for our sushi and hibachi respectively. The music playing was not what one would expect at a moderate-to-highly rated sushi joint, but a cycle of mid-late 90’s hits. Once again, this was not a problem with me, but it definitely threw off the feel of our Japanese meal. After being seated in the far rear of the restaurant, next to some kind of very dank and sour smelling closet or back room, we got a chance to check the menus, of which, there were apparently two different ones. They were similar, but both contained items that the other did not, so we were not even sure what was current and what was not. Everyone ordered assorted types of hibachi and these were passable. Nothing special; a little on the sweet side. The rice was very bland and they were given way more«pan cooked»(super nasty oily) veggies than they were the meat choice they selected. Now, lets start on the sushi… I ordered an eel roll and a «mexican» roll for my daughter. Both were very good, standard sushi rolls that you could find at any place, and were made correctly and were tasty. My mom and I ordered a Sushi Boat for Two. This is when this experience went from roughly a three star rating to a one. Everything was clearly previously frozen. Most of the sushi and sashimi tasted like old ice or had that freezer burnt flavor you probably remember from cooking something that you’ve had stored cold for way too long. The cuts of white fish, like white tuna and yellowtail, were gray. None of them had the consistency they should have and it was some of the worst sushi I have ever had, and I have had a lot of sushi. It was the first time that I can remember not finishing any kind of sushi dinner, but almost a quarter of the fish was left on the boat at the end of the meal. To finish up, our server never returned to give us the check and we had to go up to the front desk to pay, who then directed us back to the server, making paying for our meal an additional twenty minute experience. I would not recommend Sakura to anyone, except people who don’t care about food quality and are solely concerned about going to a bar rather than a Japanese restaurant. We will not be returning here I suggest you do not either.

BEWARE! DRUNKSTAFFMEMBERS! This place is going to sh*t, we did a dinner«all you can eat» and it was horrible! Do they want us to stop coming here? In ONE night, I killed a cockroach at the bar(see picture), my edamame was FULL of salt. I couldn’t eat any of it. My eel roll had barely any eel, it was all rice. My cucumber seaweed crab salad was ALL cucumber. My fat girl roll was all rice. This is terrible! In addition, our bartender had 4 shots within an hour that night in front of everyone in plain sight. She took them with the other staff members at the bar. It doesn’t look like the owners or managers care about drunk staff, because they were clearly not trying to hide it. One of the Asian staff members, took a shot of sake before delivering the sake bottle to the table. This place needs to be reported. Cockroach infested, drunk staff members serving alcohol and food that is not worth your money!

Food is good but service is aweful! Ive had their sushi to go 3 times now. Every time they have messed up our order. And everytime they have said it would be ready in 20 minutes and ive never waited less than an hour. Bad business. Not recommended for take out.

Ordered the boat for 2. Both my wife and I where very dissappointed with the food. The rice was hard and the fish was definitely not fresh. The wasabi was dark green which is a sign of sitting out for too long. The boat for two was around $ 60 with tax. Needless to say I will not be ordering food from this place again. Extremely dissappointed.

I think I’ve found my local hang out. I walked in during happy hour. Note: It’s always happy hour at the bar, which is where I sat. While there is a full menu there is also a limited bar/happy hour menu with some awesome values including $ 5 rolls. I’ve been there twice now. Once I ordered off the HH menu and left, happy, sated and not broke. Once I ordered hibachi to be served at the bar. Obviously I didn’t get the show but the food that arrived was cooked just right and tasted great.

This is one of the best places to get Hibachi in the Cape. It is a much better value than other popular hibachi places. For kids they give you 50% off listed price. This place is always busy for dinner so I suggest opting for call-ahead seating.

I have to say I regret the decline in Sakura. I frequented Sakura quite often dating back years ago. The last three visits I had at Sakura left me with a bad taste in my mouth and I will not return. On all three occasions they served me old fish that was greyish, the fish was slimy, flavorless and smelt bad. Unfortunately this owner is one that feels that reputation can be lived on. They work on cutting costs in the wrong manner and slowly begin to decline until they are no longer in business. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anybody.

I walked in, took a look around by the hostess stand and walked right out. It looked like a really bad vfw inside. The floor was sooooo sticky. I didn’t want to stick around for food in a place that cares so little about how they present themselves. I’ve been in nicer, cleaner delis and pizza take out places.

Sehr feines Sushi und Hibachi in hoher Qualität zu sehr moderaten Preisen. Leider etwas schlichtes Ambiente und keine Fenster im Lokal

Came for happy hour after work. Service was good. Waters were refilled. The bar area is really small especially when you sit near the wall so I had to get up every time someone near the far end had to get up or walk near me. Overall, I enjoyed my time.

So we stopped in to get hibachi and while waiting I was served this minuscule dollop of cheap Woodbridge Riesling for $ 6. That’s $ 1.50 an ounce! Then at the hibachi it cost more for drinks than at the bar. They wouldn’t let us sit where we wanted(I like to see people and not have my back to the restaurant) because as the host admitted, the big party was more important than us! Wow! The grill area on the floor was greasy, filthy and disgusting. Decided to leave and spend our hard earned money elsewhere.

Sakura has been one of the best Japanese/Sushi restaurants in Southwest FL. The prices went up and down but the quality is still good. The AYCE is $ 20 but only on Fridays(lunch time) and Sundays(12 – 2 I think). It kinda sucks because if one person gets the AYCE, everyone else at the table has to get it too! They got rid of the volcano btw. I know, it sucks… I gave 3 stars because of the changes

You walk in and you’re in a bar… And it’s very dark and ambience is subdued. But the workers are very personable and the food is great. I’ve had hibachi twice now and the chef has a great personality and the food is perfectly spiced and light on the stomach. And the portions are big. Try the salmon or tuna. The scallops are great too. I also had a few sushi rolls from the sushi bar. Fish was fresh and the rolls tasty. And one night a week, after hours is poker night. Gamble to your hearts content
