The worst experience ever… left my drink half full at the table, paid and left. We waited at the table outside for 30 minutes. The owner had her dog tied up and it barked the whole time. She(the owner) came out several times and never let the waitress know we were out there. Never had a chance to order food. Go to Cleveland’s next door instead.

Nice atmosphere. Very chill. Decent selection of drafts. Friendly staff. Beautiful patio. Good food! I’ve tried the Ruben and the potstickers and was not disappointed! The owner is very nice and clearly loves her place. Some of the best local musicians on the roster. What’s not to love?

Great little bar in downtown Buda! Queso and pork tacos were excellent! Service was great.

Up until recently, we were HUGE fans of the Tavern. In about the last 6 months, we actually go out of our way to not go anymore. Here’s why… I guess my biggest beef has to be the owner. She’s a nice lady, but quirky when it comes to how she runs things. And she’s there ALL the time, so either she can’t be an owner and have a manager or she doesn’t trust anyone else to run things. Either way, not good. We’ve brought large parties to the Tavern. Large groups can get loud, but at no time was anyone being inappropriate. And yet she asked our group to be quiet because there were maybe 4 people who had come to listen to live music. If we were acting out or screaming, I would understand; there wasn’t any of that going on… maybe loud talking at best to hear each other over the live music. I’m all about being respectful, but when there’s a large group spending big money buying food and drinks… isn’t that what the bar business is about? There’s a few people on her staff who have been there for awhile, but there’s been a lot of turnover. Not that the new staff isn’t friendly, but it changed the vibe and I’m pretty sure one new guy doesn’t speak English. Recently, I read the owner was complaining about having to pay an extra city tax. She said that she had to either cut or pare down year-end employee bonuses to cover the tax bill. She actually said that in the news! Maybe it’s no wonder her why her staffing changed. Sheesh. Another thing I’ve noticed is that the new bartenders are pouring drinks from 1.75 liter«handle» bottles. This absolutely leads to overpouring, because there is no way to measure the pour. While it might seem like a way to save money(by buying the bigger bottle) in the long run everyone loses because you can’t make money when you can’t pour correctly. It also can lead to people being over-served, which leads to people being drunk, which leads to less fun. Don’t get me wrong — I love buying a stiff drink. However, if I was a bar manager or owner, I would be more concerned with quality control, consistency and pricing. The beer is meh. They do have Guinness on draft(which is good!) but not everyone on the staff knows how to pour it(which is bad). The other beers on draft are just boring… including Miller Lite for some unknown reason. I’m sorry if you like Miller Lite. And finally… she closes when she wants. We went out on a Sunday night during football season, thinking we could sit and watch the game. The website said the Tavern was open but the locked door and dark building suggested otherwise, and it remained so for over two days with no explanation. We happily went down the block and spent our money at another establishment. We’ve also been there on a Saturday night when the owner just decided it was closing time despite the bar being moderately full. All in all, I would really like this place to be good. At one time, it was the best place in town to hang out, eat and drink. It has potential to be great again, but definitely needs to be tweaked to compete with the other options now in Buda.

The wife and I went in Saturday evening on the recommendation of our son. Apparently the television in the place is there to entertain the staff. They were entirely too wrapped up in a basketball game to wait on us properly. The appetizers and burgers were okay but nothing special at all. We both ordered burgers cooked medium and they were served very well done. Why bother asking? The place wasn’t all that busy so the long wait time for the food wasn’t justified. I believe the cook must have been among the TV watchers. A mediocre experience at best considering the forty dollar tab. I don’t think we’ll bother going back.

In town on business so thought I would try it. Always prefer to eat local, you can get chain food anywhere. Was not disappointed! Great steak sandwich with perfectly toasted/warmed bun and fresh coleslaw served on the side. Beer was cold!

Omg. The mussels in butter sauce. Too much yumminess — like literally, there are so many mussels per serving. Bring a friend, they will love you :)

This place is great! The burgers here can hold their own against just about any burger anywhere. Not kidding. There’s a lot of love in their simple but expertly executed menu. Great service, happy clientele and live music.

I LOVE this place! Great food, wonderful staff and Julie, the owner, is out there with the customers to be sure everyone is taken care of. From their opening to now has been a huge improvement and I look forward to my time there now, visiting with locals, staff and management. The Tavern on Main is a warm, welcoming local venue. Support your local business and go to Tavern on Main — you won’t be sorry :)

Independent restaurant in the historic area of Buda. The restaurant is far more bar than food, and a live music venue on the weekends. The food is sandwiches which are fairly standard. There is nothing exceptional about the food. Recommend going when they have a band, rather than going for lunch.

So I get the El Cubano on toasted Rye bread with sweet potato fries and I now crave this non stop! So yum! Bobby is just flat out the best bartender! Works his butt off and does a great job. Great music as well

I enjoy this place. Fun! Not badly priced! And the food was really god for a bar setting! If you are looking for an enjoyable bar experience with a side of American dinning this may be the place for you.

Bartender was really nice when we came in on a Tuesday afternoon. My mom loved the margaritas. I liked the cold beer. My hamburger was good for bar food and moms like what she got I just don’t remember what it was.

I love the tavern; great place to grab a drink — lots of beers on tap, plus a full bar. Their food is also pretty good too — I love their sliders and pot stickers on the appetizer menu.

So they lost a star… I went in with my friends last night and there is live music. Ok cool, ummm no. I guess I’m getting old, but I feel like at a neighborhood bar /TAVERN I shouldn’t have to scream to talk to the peeps I came in with. There was a band that consisted of a guitar that was cranked way up, a tuba, upright bass and a French horn. The tuba played a solo… Sweet god, it was loud. We left after one round of drinks because it was just miserable. I noticed several other people did as well. Also, they need new menus. The menus are falling apart and their drink menu is just a wrinkles piece of paper and not enough info on their drinks.

I thoroughly enjoy this place as a bar because I’ve yet to try anything from the kitchen. I like the option to listen to live music, which is usually in the outside stage area, but will be inside if weather causes it to be. The mixed drinks are cheap, simple and stiff. The servers are fast and responsive even during busy times. The beer selection is good and they even offer gluten free beers(omission) and ciders(crispin). I’d go back again if I’m south.

This place is a bar. A regular ol’ Texas bar I guess. I ordered a Tito’s & tonic and it was in a big glass. I was worried but thought maybe I was just going to get mighty buzzed. Not really, it was just a lot of something that maybe was flat tonic. huh. It wasn’t worth worrying about because they close at midnight cuz it’s Buda. Service was okay. The ladies were nice but I had to go find them to order a drink.

Gave this place a try early on a fri evening one other person in the place sitting absorbing what ever game was on the tv we were the only customers at the bar and the bartender didnt seem to care one way or the other they might have been changing shifts as there was a lot of activity with registers and taking stock of inventory . mixed feeling about it maybe it was to early in the evening but i didnt get a warm welcome from either of the staff
we had a drink and left eat somewhere else perhaps next time the experiance will be better

Finally a local tavern in the Buda! Since moving to Kyle 10 months ago, I’ve felt something missing around here. The staff & bartenders are friendly & attentave. Their food & drinks are a tad pricey but they do have good happy hour specials. Hays County recently voted to lax the rules regarding alcohol & bars in the Kyle/Buda area & The Tavern is just the beginning. I really hope this place survives & I’ll continue to be a patron.
