Sadly this place has closed. Waiting to see if another Sushi place will open up soon. Totally solid local sushi place. We order take out from here all the time. The back garden is cute. Nice to eat in too. The veggie gyozas are quite good.

Consistently good sushi although I preferred it in the previous incarnation when the place was called Oshima. Although I eat here about two to three times a month, the owners make no attempt at cultivating a relationship. When it was Oshima, I knew the owners and they always greeted me by name and remembered my favorite dishes. Not so with new place, but not such a big deal. The food is fresh and good, and that’s what matters more to me.

I’m literally eating a delivery order right now and here is my honest opinion: I ordered the gyoza and the Tom yum soup. The gyoza is undercooked and feels slightly chewy and kind of stale at the tips, however, it was edible. It really needed the sauce to moisten it up though. The Tom yum soup is very spicy, which I like, and it has a lot of cabbage and other veggies in it, which I also like. I was expecting more than one shrimp but at least there’s also scallops in it. Overall, I think that I’ll try again with this place when I’m really hungry. My experience is ok but not great.

I’ve been here several times the past 2 months and I have yet to be disappointed. The sushi is fresh and taste great. The staff is friendly and the manager/sushi chef Yello is a nice guy. He always takes care of me and makes things that are not even on the menu. I highly recommend this place and I look forward to going back here.

It was ok Just ok Nothing spectacular The staff was ok The food was OK. The plum wine was just ok It doesn’t warrant an immediate return… I’ve definitely had better plus fresher, generous portions Probably because They are Not even Japanese. They are Chinese Kinda stand off ish. But did an obligatory check on my table. I Unilocaled & saw that it was a block away. I’ll Unilocal a better place next time

I used to order from here every once in awhile but never again. Today I ordered gyoza, a spicy salmon roll, and an eel avocado roll. Delivery was right on time. That’s why they get one star lol. I took a bite out of the eel avocado roll and almost puked. The smell of it is terrible. It stunk up my whole room. I can’t believe they are serving this to their customers. I’m totally disgusted and I was all like«I can’t even!» I will never order from here ever again. If I get sick from this I will be raising hell.

I was really craving some tonkatsu ramen. I had recently had some in Toronto that was to die for… sawa’s bummed me out. I ordered spicy. It wasn’t spicy. The chashu Was chewy and overcooked. A few specs of corn. This ramen made me very sad

Have had delivery from here a number of times-tonight was just okay. It’s raining out so I understand it could take awhile even though the restaurant is not that far from my house. The gyoza was warm. The rolls were okay. I have definitely had food from here that has been better.

They came here tonight after a friend of mine was craving Ramen. We walked in and saw that only one table was full on a Saturday night around 8:00. The waitress sat us quickly and took our drink orders. She seemed nice enough but not overly friendly. My friend ordered the duck Ramen and his wife got the duck in those little flour taco things. I’m not sure what it’s called… check my picture. She liked hers(it smelled really yummy) and he was super full after his ramen, but he said it wasn’t wonderful. I assumed this place just opened fairly recently since it looked pretty clean and new. The wall designs look cool but the fake plants and flickering lights on the tables were a little cheap looking. The bathrooms are adorable. I liked the sliding door and the big sink.

visited sawa on the 9th of october with my sister, who lives just a few blocks away and had been before. were were the only people in the entire place, yet the service was slow and spotty(took about 10⁄15 minutes to get water; my one glass of plum wine took about as long). the bigger issue i had with sawa is the food quality: the rolls we ordered were fair — just ok — nothing good, save for maybe the edamame. i’d think that, if you had just two customers(no one else came in the entire time we ate), you’d serve up some quality food! perhaps we visited during an off night(in at least one respect, we did, since the place was a ghost town), but i won’t likely return to find out.

I like trying sushi places all around Brooklyn; sometimes you find gems in unexpected places. Sawa is hidden in plain site, sort of stranded on a stretch of 7th Avenue between Union and Flatbush. It doesn’t even show up on google maps. One night, Taro was too crowded, so a friend and I decided to look nearby and vaguely remembered«another» sushi restaurant a few blocks down 7th Ave. The staff at Sawa are very sweet and accommodating, and the prices somewhat lower than average for Park Slope. We’ve been back three times this year, usually ordering a mix of rolls; they’re always fresh, tasty and well-prepared. This place isn’t about hype or fancy décor. It’s an above-average underdog that’s won my loyalty. But don’t visit too much — we like having the back garden to ourselves. The fifth star is for ineffable good vibes.

clean and basic décor. Drawn by the $ 10 bento box special, I ordered beef teriyaki and chicken katsu. I really like the shumai although it was only 2 pieces. I liked my teriyaki although the rice and beef portions were too small, even fit lunch portion. Fresh side veggies but I counted only two brocolies. solid food but small portion size during lunch.

I don’t understand the negative reviews below. Over the last several months I’ve eaten at Sawa a number of times(not delivery order but seated dining) and I’ve always been treated very well by the staff, mostly young women but very nice. My palate is limited but I can attest that the beef terriyaki and salad are excellent, the terriyaki being among the best if not the best that I’ve had. Can’t compare Sawa to its predecessor and don’t eat sushi so can’t comment on that. 2 for 1 saki for early dining didn’t hurt either. Dessert, green tea ice cream for me, was also very good and very well presented, with whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Although my selections have been limited I think this is a cut above, and maybe several cuts above, the usual neighborhood Japanese dining fare. I can only recommend you try it for yourselves and not rely on the negative reviews of 1 or 2 of my disgruntled neighbors.

I’m no where near a sushi or food snob. I’ve eaten things in the past that have wrinkled the faces of a few of my friends and family: old food, overcooked food, borderline rotten food, bland food, «exotic» foods with strange ingredients… All that is just to say that, generally speaking, I have a really low baseline for what I consider«bad food.» That being said, this is the worst food I’ve eaten in years. No lie. I don’t know how this place has stayed in business. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, a spicy salmon roll, a California roll and a salmon roll. In my whole history of food I’ve never had a sushi roll I didn’t like and figured that the previous single star reviews were just exaggerations from people who spend their Friday nights at Sushi Samba eating with rock stars. People who turn their nose at a place with a $ 10 minimum deliver requirement. But, indeed, these were rolls that would probably taste better coming out than going in. The fish was old and slimy; its texture was what you might expect of a ball of nose mucus to soft to be a booger, but too hard to be snot. My wife looked at the black color of a spicy salmon roll and asked if I poured soy sauce on it… I had not. The plain salmon rolls were tasteless, and the rice on the California roll was so old it was almost translucent. I could tell from the first bite that something was wrong, but I paid $ 24.00, and having been raised with parents from a third world country I learned at a young age not to waste food. So I smeared them with wasabi, and try to mask the horrid taste with soy sauce. But the sauce was oily and extremely salty, and after swallowing three rolls I literally threw up the fourth and then called it a night. The people who made this«food,» as well as the owners of this establishment, should be beaten with shame sticks for masquerading this collection of stuff on a plate as edible. It wasn’t, and I wish I had just gone to the fridge, made by self a sandwich, and called it a night.

Most amazing fish! Seafood shot: oyster, urchin, roe, quail egg. Japanese mackarel — flesh eaten raw, then the spine fried and served over greens. Raw scallop with special sauce. Chef’s choice sushi with carnations and glowing lights, soy & lemon wasabi sauces. When it couldn’t get any better, tuna belly tatar with green onion. !!! They’ve only been open for a few months, so disregard the bad review! The owner is wonderful – he recommended a few types of sake that made the fish even more delicious. The prices are very reasonable for the quality: ~$ 50/person including drinks. Come and try this fish, you won’t be disappointed.

Do not order from this place. We used to order from Oshima all the time. last night we tried Sawa, delivery, and it was awful. The spring rolls were empty, the chicken was drier than wood and the steamed pork dumplings broke apart and were undercooked. need to find a new place.

Oshima was aces — you couldn’t go wrong with it. Now it appears to be a place called Sawa(STAYAWAY!!!) We went to Oshima on a weekly basis for well over a year and it was consistently fantastic. The fish was fresh, the woman who took the order on the telephone(we did almost exclusively delivery) was very nice, the service was generally prompt and courteous. I recommended it to everyone I could. They recently shut down for approximately 2 weeks for renovations. Recently, we called for the first time in in about two weeks — looking very forward to our usual order of two sushi regulars. I was taken quite off guard by the different woman who answered and the different process. She was far less pleasant and seemed confused with how to deal with a delivery order — I simply blamed that on a new employee. Once the food arrived, we noticed on the receipt that the name had changed to Sawa Japanese Fusion. Well, whatever fusion took place resulted in a meltdown. Everything was terrible. The fish was of a much, MUCH lower quality — tasted terrible. The soy sauce tasted very cheap in not good, the lettuce in the salad wasn’t fresh and the roll that was included previously(by Oshima) was a salmon avocado roll that was fantastic — now it’s a very cheap, poorly made California roll. Never again will I go to Sawa unless I find out that tonight was a fluke. I doubt it was though. Horrible food and less than pleasant service.
