I’m a fan of this place. It’s strange that sometimes it seems like the most dead place in the Slope; other times the most bustling. I went for a Saturday brunch one morning and it was completely packed. I was able to get a space at the bar and eat there, having the macaroni and cheese. Certainly one of the better and more experimental mac and cheese I’ve had. A great food and drink selection. There’s an outdoor patio.

Went here for date night with my bf on a Saturday night. It’s a cute and clean place, definitely not a place I’d go to with a big group. For date night, it was perfect! Service was attentive, but it might have helped that we were only one of the few tables there at the time. Food was excellent. The crostini was a good combination of white beans, olive oil and arugula(and maybe something else I’m forgetting) on a thin crispy piece of bread. The three cheese mac and cheese was tasty with little tiny breadcrumbs on top. We had the broccoli rabe side dish, which was also good… you can never go wrong with having some more leafy greens. The coca-cola ribs was the star of the night though. The tender pieces of meat just falling off the bones… the flavors filling my mouth and I can’t help but hum a nice mmmmm through my lips. *ahem… but it was an overall good experience and I would definitely go back again for another meal.

Very enjoyable Friday night dinner experience overall! Pros: Plenty of bottles in the $ 30 range. Waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the food. Bean and pork(bacon? pancetta? I can’t remember) soup was smoky and delicious. Hangar steak was perfectly cooked medium and the Hake was buttery and flaky. Dessert was also great, especially the bread pudding. Our friends also enjoyed the oysters, ribs(fell off the bone) and mac n’ cheese. Cons: Only six seats at the bar to wait so on a weekend night you’re going to be standing by the door or outside. World’s smallest pour of Maker’s Mark and a «Prosecco Cocktail» $ 20 with a $ 3 tip. And the«Cocktail» was a class of Prosecco with a sugar cube and dash of bitters. Lame.

Little D Eatery is a great neighborhood spot with delicious food. When I first arrived the place was pretty empty and that made me a little nervous. Our waitress was super friendly and told us about the night’s specials, one of which was a golden beet borscht. We got that, and the white bean crostini to start. Both were simple and awesome dishes. For my entrée I got the mac and cheese(the small size — it also comes in large), which ended up being perfect since I’d had appetizers. It was hot, bubbly, and nice and crusty on top… just how I like it. For dessert… caramel bread pudding, which was seriously decadent. I’m starting to drool just thinking about it. By the time I left, the place was packed and there was a wait for tables. I can absolutely see why. I definitely want to come back and try the hen of the woods salad. Love Little D!

One of my favorite spots for brunch. My boyfriend lives right around the corner and we rarely go anywhere else on a Saturday morning. It’s always busy but the wait typically isn’t too bad. The coffee is great; the juices are a little on the small side. The eggs are the best: fluffy, not burned, not greasy, simply seasoned with salt & pepper. The fritattas are excellent, usually made with three cheeses, mushrooms, and bacon. The hen of the woods mushrooms are especially tasty. We always get a side of cheese grits — they are outstanding. I wouldn’t go here with a large party, but for two it is a great spot.

The brunch here is amazing! Really high quality ingredients and the atmosphere is perfect for a sunny Sunday. Dinner is excellent, too. They seem really committed to quality, simple food. The wine list is gorgeous! And in the warmer months, their backyard is really charming.

This place is fabulous. The aesthetic is great — its small and cozy, but not too cramped. I’ve been there on a date night, but also with a group of girlfriends and its been perfect both times. Great selection of moderately priced wines. The service is good too. If it gets busy, of course you have to be patient, but for the most part they are very attentive and love to help give advice on selections. The host is quick and courteous — we were sat withing 5 minutes on a Saturday night. Finally — the food. It is so so good. I always go with the Coca Cola Braised Ribs with the hot and sour pickles and sweet potato purée. I am salivating just thinking about it now. The portions are great — most of their entrees come in the large and the small, both of which are perfect for what mood you are in. There is a wonderful selection of appetizers as well. I have never gotten the mac and cheese, but other people in my party have and they said it was fabulous. This restaurant kind of has a comfort food feel with a slight southern flair — I can’t really put my finger on the category, but I highly recommend it!

Warm and beautiful ambiance: simple, modern chairs and tables with glowing candles, and really fresh, homecooked food make Little D Eatery a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. It’s pricey but delicious. We were the only table in there(it was a Sunday), and perhaps that’s because the prices seemed a bit steep for the neighborhood: $ 10 for a small plate salad, for example, is a lot to pay when you’re looking to get an entrée for say, $ 25. But, the mixture of candied pecans, apples, and balsamic dressing on greens was fabulous! The side of butternut squash, dripping in butter and maple syrup was divine, but again, at $ 7 for a side, it was about $ 2 too high. Little D Eatery’s prices reflect the market before the crash. I think they’d be even more popular and probable for locals looking for a short-cut on dinner — with just a tiny reduction in price to reflect the times. A few other thoughts: The waiter comes over to deliver a bowl of delicious olives(yum!), and a piece of bread, which was good, but served cold with no butter or olive oil. I wanted heated bread, butter and/or olive oil! Our dessert, Boca Negra, a flourless chocolate cake with orange-imbued whipped cream was lacking in depth, and somewhat dry. They offer a good selection of wines by the bottle or the glass, and sparking water, too. All in all, our experience of Little D Eatery at night was a romantic interlude, pricey but good. And, judging from the other Unilocal reviews and their online menu, I can’t wait to try their brunch!

We discovered this place about a year ago and are big fans. They have the best cherry scones with rose petal preserves that are to die for. I thought my husband was going to hug the waiter and say«I love you man!» after we had them. The pork butt is so damn good you can’t help but need a cigarette. On our last visit we found the cherry scones were off the menu. We are in mourning and were told it was just for the summer. I agree that for dinner the prices are steep for the portions. It is definitely a place for brunch

I’m already a fan of Little D for dinner, so naturally I had to go for Brunch. One of us ordered the blueberry pancakes. We got 1 pancake. That’s right, one measly freakin’ $ 8 pancake. it was the best pancake i’ve ever had in my life. period.

Brunch — eggs benedict. Very good, not overly memorable. I would go back, however. We were there like 15 mins before they were supposed to close, were the last to leave, probably left people working late. But, they were all smiles, super friendly. I appreciate that.

Little D has the potential to be great with just a bit more effort, but my overall impression is one of disappointment. I’ve encountered some very favorable reviews for them in places varying from Unilocal to the NYC Black Book, but my experiences have not lived up to what I’ve read. On the one hand, the setting is very nicely done, with clean décor and a great outdoor garden. This is the sort of place you want to take your friends for some food and hanging out. The bar is also quite nice. It’s a fun place. On the other hand, I have been left dissatisfied with the food. I am a far cry from the stereotypical potato-fed American with a penchant for«all you can eat» buffets, and I can leave a restaurant quite happy without needing to be resolutely stuffed — however, the last time I visited Little D, I had to prepare something else to eat immediately upon walking home. I had met a friend for brunch and, having been reasonably content with eggs(and a starter of excellent biscuits served with rose petal preserves) on a previous visit, decided to try the blueberry«pancake». It turned out that the selection was indeed literally a lone pancake, about 7″ across — delicious, perfectly cooked, and served with a great warm blueberry compote — but spectacular only in that it was a tease bordering on cruel. I was frankly surprised that the polite and capable waitress could serve it to a guy who is 6’1″ while maintaining a straight face. Seriously. As I’ve said, the building blocks for greatness are all here. That’s why I’ll return to Little D at some point to give them another chance, but for now, poo poo. The kitchen needs to do some reevaluation. As they currently stand, the neighborhood has vastly better choices for the price.

I will concede that some of their prices don’t seem to match up well with their dishes/proportions. However, they obviously use fresh ingredients, and considering some of what they have, that ain’t cheap. Décor is simple — round white pendant lamps, exposed brick, and cool retro-mod looking stainless ceiling fans. I love Little D Eatery. I used to frequent Little D for brunch back when I live down around 7th and Prospect, and now that I’m back on the Slope(well, I have been for a while, anyway), I’ve been coming here regularly. Brunch is a good value(compared to their dinner menu), and even though they have a lot of standard brunch fare, they manage to tweak it up a bit, with interesting specials, and a good wine/cocktail list. The dinners I’ve had here have been sublime(but a little pricey). During my most recent meal, I had crispy sweetbreads(not overly crispy, and still tender), and shared a whole fish with my man. I love their bread pudding! Their wine list is extensive, considering their size, and surprising. They have liqueurs I haven’t seen often(Nardini Acqua di Cedro!), and their wine prices are reasonable. There are far too many wine lists in the city that are boring and unimaginative, and this surely isn’t one of them.

After working a full stressful day on Saturday, all I wanted to do was to go home, eat some comfort food and hit the hay. It was, however, a Saturday night, so I agreed to grab some grub w/BF. Cranky, and morose, we strolled down 7th avenue and lo and behold — there was Little Ds. I had never been. I walked in all debbie downers and sporting a frown. But shortly thereafter, this is what happened: 1. They seated us in the cute garden section = my internal dialogue on why the hell I’m doing the job I do ceased immediately. 2. I took a few sips of my Rose and noticed BF savoring his Grimbergen Blonde Ale = started tapping my feet under the table. 3. Took my first bites of the mac&cheese, marinated sardines, sauteed baby octopus = oh, helllssss yeah! Eyes popping out, pupils dilated at this point. 4. The server clears our empty plate of chocolate chip cookies and dark chocolate dipped potato chips = big smiles, and not a cloud in the sky! Worked a full day on a Saturday? What, that happened? I like this place — it definitely cheered me up(or maybe I was just low blood sugar and hungry). Regardless, I had a good experience here and am going back for more.

I must concur with the other reviews– overpriced, mediocre food. The only reason I ate here is that its a block away from my apt. I have a big appetite, I’ll admit. But I’m still a small girl. And there aren’t many places I’ve been to where I have had to eat a second meal when I got home because the portions were way too small! I shared the«large» the mac and cheese(solid– 80% cheese/20% pasta just the way I like it!) and arugula salad(bland, and the arugula had brown spots on it– I figured it was because it was organic?). Fast forward to a bowl of cereal and ½ a pint of gelato later at home, and I’m finally satisfied. $ 15 down the drain, but I’ve learned a) can’t always trust the NYT and b) never eat at a place with«Little» in its name.

Oh, Little D. So close to my apartment, yet so far from serving anything I’d want to eat(or at least pay for) on any kind of regular basis. If you were a random overpriced underwhelming spot in some other neighborhood, you might eke out another star on the strength of your Hen of the Woods salad. As it is, your tragically convenient location is your downfall. I wanted so to savor your Coca Cola-braised ribs – but they tasted of Pepto Bismol at worst, Fruity Pebbles at best. I hoped to delight in the whimsy of potato-chip-crusted salt cod fritters – but they were neither chippy nor coddy in the least. We needn’t speak of the pork butt. You could have been a contender. I could have been a regular.

Little D Eatery, or as I call it «Lil D» is a south slope treasure! I must admit, every time I walk by, I peer in the front window just to gawk at the dishes of others. The food here is just simply put, on point. My boyfriend and I have gone here to eat two Valentine’s in a row and have been amazed at how their food could take the stage on «our» day. This past Valentine’s we went here after a week long trip of skiing and dining in Breckenridge, CO, and came home to the reaffirmation that small NY restaurants can’t be beat. The flavor combinations at Lil’ D get my tough salivating immediately. The Hen of the Woods mushroom app. is to die for. A deep, woodsy flavor, and the right touch of seasoning offer a sensational start to a meal. Other small plates such as the Mac & Cheese and Grilled Squid with navy beans and olives are perfectly portioned and are an excellent option if you are set on discovering the range of flavors Lil’ D can achieve. The larger plates such as the Duck Leg Confit with escarole and bacon, and the Coca-Cola Braised Baby Back Ribs are sensational for sharing and are a great follow up to the tasty small dishes. All in all, I highly recommend this place for a fabulous food experience!

It’s a great place if you like cozy intimate settings. When it gets crowded it can be a little bit too cozy though. The two items that I would immediately recommend off the menu is to first start off with the mushroom salad, which is perfect to split with someone if you just want something to tie you down until the main course arrives. And for dessert the bread pudding is to die for. These two items are the most memorable dishes of little d’s; and is only available until the end of winter I think. The main courses always change, the last time I was there I had their Texas style jumbo shrimp which was okay, and the time before that I had their lamb special which was surprisingly good and filling; and most recommended with a Riesling to wash it down with. Definitely worth checking out as a dinner date destination or at the very least for the bread pudding!

I didn’t want to celebrate my bday– I had just moved, I was really stressed. But my birthday was on a Saturday– that must only happen once every seven years or more rarely– and I realized that if I didn’t do something I’d feel like shit. So I sent this last minute stream of consciousness email and wound up going out with three couples. Okay, two couples, and one friend + her guy who’s just a friend. I was a triple third wheel. That’s the most third wheels I’ve ever been at once. We had sardines, and I said this reminds me of the Burbs. But no one had seen the Burbs or remembered that little moment when the sketchy neighbor(who isn’t really sketchy, just German) offers Tom Hanks sardines. The pasta special reminded me of childhood and this apparently was a Ratatouille reference. At one point a conversation/debate about school lunches and nutrition started up and pretty much lasted the rest of the night. I think the real issue is that my friend was saying some things very Republican. Even though I don’t think she’s Republican, just Asian. Asians often value education. I didn’t listen to most of the dialogue so I don’t really know. I was congratulating myself on living another year, not getting hit by a bus, not getting cancer or HIV, and having at least three friends, who liked me if not each other. Many thanks to Unilocal for helping me find Little Dishes, which is a fine setting for a little birthday. Also for taking care of the neighborhood-orientation part of my recent move. I’ve long forgiven this site for being way too chipper.

THISISTHEBESTPLACEINPARKSLOPE — it’s SUCH the hidden GEM! I’m not kidding. I really really REALLY consider this place my favorite place in all of NYC for a truly WONDERFUL all around affordable dining experience. What I LOVE is that each dish is so carefully thought out — nothing on the plate is «extra» in terms of taste. If you go — GET the Macaroni & Cheese, the Marinated Sardines(just TRUST me on this — it’s the equivalent to Blue Ribbon’s Bone Marrow) and the Mussels are good,(if you soak the bread into the sauce — the tarragon they use assaults your senses). I love their entrees(or big dishes): the Roasted Squash Dumpling is so very interesting and yummy. The way these folks prepare fish is just exquisite(hake, salmon, cod, etc. you can’t go wrong) with perfectly crispy skins on the most flavorful filets. The duck confit is probably the BEST I’ve ever had. The skin on that is just sinful while the meat falls of the bones and melts in your mouth. I KIDYOUNOT. IF they ever bring back the eggplant(little dish) — it’s an EXPLOSION in your mouth. From palate to plating, the superb service(ask for Randall — he’s SUCH a sweetie!). Tim(the GM of the place — and wine expert) is SUCH a great guy! He KNOWS how to pair the food perfectly. I LOVETHAT. Take his advice. Really.
